Installation and Operating Instructions

ARC-TECH PRO Series

Thank you for purchasing the BTU Research®, Electrical Energy Efficiency and Surge

Protection Device. Your new ARC-Tech Pro Unit is designed to protect electrical and electronic loads from transients and surge disturbances on the ac power line. It is also designed to provide Power Factor Correction and improve Current Utilization. The device is designed for both indoor and outdoor use.

CAUTION: THIS ELECTRICAL DEVICE SHOULD BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED

ELECTRICIAN OR TECHNICIAN IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL AND NATIONAL

ELECTRICAL CODES.

WARNING: THIS UNIT IS EQUIPPED WITH AN INTERNAL DISCHARGE DEVICE. WAIT TWO

MINUTES AFTER DISCONNECTING FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE WORKING WITH

LIVE LEADS.

ARC-TECH PRO Unit Mounting

The ARC Tech Unit is designed to be surface mounted on the wall adjacent to the Load

Center.

LOCATIONS AND BASIC INFORMATION:

 Prior to opening the Load Center Box (breaker panel), MAKE CERTAIN THE MAIN

BREAKER IS IN THE “OFF” POSITION.

 Many Residential homes have multiple breaker panels and the ARC Tech Unit can be installed on any breaker panel in the home, providing there is space for the dedicated breaker.

• The ARC Tech Pro Unit is designed to condition “ALL” power consumed by inductive loads (electric motors) in the home regardless of installation location.

 The ARC Tech Pro Unit “MUST” be installed on a dedicated two pole 20 or 30 amp 220 volt breaker. Piggy backing is against NEC building codes.

 The ARC Tech Pro Unit units is enclosed in a NEMA 4A box allowing it to be installed indoors or outdoors, but “CAN NOT” be installed under water.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

 MAKE CERTAIN THE MAIN BREAKER IS IN THE “OFF” POSTION AT THE BREAKER

PANEL prior to opening the Load Center Box.

 The power should remain “OFF” until the entire installation is complete.

 Install a two pole 20 or 30 amp 220 volt breaker and secure the Black (L1) and Red

(L2) leads of the ARC Tech Pro Unit, one on each side of the breaker. Secure the green (GND) wire from the ARC Tech Pro Unit to the ground bar in the panel. Leave breaker in “OFF” position until power is restored to panel.

 Installation wiring should be as short as possible – less than 24 inches

 Remove “tabs” (knockouts) from the panel cover allowing access to the breaker after cover is reinstalled. Reinstall the panel cover securely.

 Turn power (main breaker) back “ON”. Flip the “dedicated” breaker to “ON” and check that the “Blue” indicator light is on. This will indicate that the unit is on and installation is complete.

 If the Blue operations light or if the green surge protector status indicator light are “not on” or if the red surge protector status indicator light is “ON” turn off the power to the breaker, and check to make certain that all the external connections are wired correctly and are made with the Black (L1) and Red (L2) wires to the breaker, and the green (GND) wire to the ground bar. Also, test to make sure that the new breaker installed is good. If all connections are good, install cover, turn power back on, and check light again.

 If any of the problems described in step 6 persist or the Circuit Breaker trips when placed in the “on” position call your dealer or BTU Research for support.

 During operation, if the “Green” status indicator lamp goes out and the “Red” status indicator comes on, this means that your surge protector sacrificed itself to save the equipment on the AC circuit. In such case, return the unit for a replacement.

 If the unit is humming this is a sign of high voltage. This will not damage the unit and can occur at various times of the day.

GENERATOR APPLICATIONS:

 The ARC Tech Pro Unit is not designed to improve the power provided by your

Generator.

 If you have a manual start generator, turn ‘ ‘OFF” the ARC Tech Pro Unit breaker when turning off the main feed breaker.

 If you have an auto start generator it is recommended to turn ‘ ‘OFF” the ARC Tech

Pro Unit breaker at a convenient time after the generator starts.
