This course provides an introduction to the components of physical fitness—cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition. A
variety of activities will be introduced that produce physical fitness.

This course provides a healthy approach to the development of muscular strength and endurance through the use of weight machines and free weights. American College of Sports
Medicine Guidelines for resistance training will be followed.
HCR 104 Volleyball (CRN 17705) 1 credit hour

This course provides a basic understanding of volleyball terminology, rules, positions and match play. Skill techniques will be taught and the United States Volleyball Association
rules will be followed for game play. May be repeated up to three (3) times.
HCR 113 Bicycling On the Flint River Trail (CRN 17706) 1 credit hour

This active lifestyle course will allow students the opportunity to participate in biking while becoming familiar with the natural attributes of the Flint River Trail (FRT). The FRT
is a linear park extending from the UM-Flint campus to Bluebell Beach and Stepping Stones Falls, with a popular 3-mile loop through Kearsley Park. This is an active,
participatory class. Bikes are available!

This course teaches fundamental self-defense skills in a structured and progressive manner while increasing physical fitness and flexibility. A full range of skills will be taught
with emphasis on practical applications for self-defense. Designed for the beginner, but will also reinforce fundamental skills taught in most martial arts, therefore students with
previous experience are welcome.

This course will identify stressors, stress responses, and stress management strategies to minimize the negative effects of stress, e.g., loss of ability to adjust, fatigue, anxiety, and
lowered productivity. It provides a holistic approach to well-being and the opportunity to participate in a variety of relaxation techniques.

This course focuses on the development of cardiovascular endurance as a component of overall health and physical fitness. A variety of aerobic conditioning activities such as
walking, running, swimming, aerobic dance and cardiovascular exercise equipment will be introduced.

Development and refinement of swimming skills and stroke mechanics; swimming as an aerobic conditioning activity. American Red Cross and American College of Sports
Medicines guidelines followed. Open to non-swimmers and swimmers of all levels.

This course provides students with an opportunity to learn about and play the sport of soccer. Skill techniques and tactics will be taught and practiced through various drills.
Recreational and competitive rules will be taught and applied in games played throughout the course. May be repeated up to three (3) times.

This course provides students with an opportunity to learn about, experience and play basketball. Skill techniques and tactics will be taught and practiced in drills. Recreational
and competitive rules will be taught and applied to various play situations . May be repeated up to three (3) times.
