JEFF MONDAY
PRESIDENT, PGA TOUR CANADA
On behalf of PGA TOUR Canada and our players, thanks to everyone affiliated with the
Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel for putting on a first class event in Thunder Bay.
From the moment the tournament was announced the passion and enthusiasm surrounding
the event was phenominal. And once we arrived in town, the hospitality that was shown to us
by the volunteers, tournament organizers and everyone in Thunder Bay was second to none.
All the players had nothing but great things to say about their experience in Thunder Bay.
The golf course was in excellent condition and a formidable test, the volunteers came out in
droves, the community support was fantastic, enabling the event to raise over $133,000 for
charity, and the way the City embraced the event was truly heartwarming.
Your drive to position the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel as one of the premier
stops on PGA TOUR Canada is a true testament to your dedication to making a difference in
the City of Thunder Bay.
SCOTT SMITH
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
STAAL FOUNDATION OPEN PRESENTED BY TBAYTEL
To say it was a privilege to be a part of the Staal Foundation Open team would definitely be
an understatement. I had the privilege to meet and work with some of Thunder Bay’s finest
during the 2014 Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel, which included the Staal Family,
board and committee chair members, volunteers, fans, government officials and corporate
sponsors. The community support from all of our volunteers who generously donated their
time, the spectators that came out to support the event and the financial commitment from
the business community demonstrated how Thunder Bay is truly passionate about growing
our community and supporting those in need.
The Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel was not only successful in hosting a world
class event in our city, but we are now considered a benchmark for other events on the
PGA TOUR Canada in 2015.
I look forward to 2015 and continuing to grow the event and tourism in Thunder Bay. I believe
with the strength of the Staal Foundation Open team, the growth of PGA TOUR Canada, the
Staal Family involvement and strong community support, there is an opportunity to create a
week of festivities which will attract a significant number of visitors to our city.

2014 TOURNAMENT CHARITIES
05
133,000 was donated to the following local charities:
$
Thunder Bay REGIONAL Health Sciences Foundation
The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation raises funds to support Thunder Bay Regional Health
Sciences Centre programs, equipment and services in Thunder Bay and throughout Northwestern Ontario
that improve patient care. We are proud to say that 100% of the money we raise stays in Northwestern Ontario.
The goal of our current $5.9-million Exceptional Cancer Care Campaign is to help Regional Cancer Care
Northwest become the best centre in the province for Exceptional Cancer Care. The campaign is raising
funds to put state-of-the-art equipment in the hands of our local cancer care professionals so they can
provide exceptional cancer diagnosis, treatment and research, right here at home.
United Way of Thunder Bay
The United Way of Thunder Bay is leading the way to a better community and improving the quality of life
for all local people. We do this by working collaboratively with community partners to address underlying
causes to social problems. The United Way focuses in three key community investment areas essential for
our community to thrive. These three focus areas are—Poverty, Kids and Communities. Funds donated to
the United Way from the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel will be strategically invested across
Thunder Bay to several vital programs and initiatives in these areas, creating a social safety net that works
to achieve lasting change for our neighbours, families and friends.
St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay
St. Joseph’s Foundation raises money to support the works of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie,
including St. Joseph’s Care Group (SJCG). Serving the Region of Northwestern Ontario, SJCG is a Catholic
health care organization dedicated to meeting the unmet needs of people in this area. SJCG is committed to
providing service in Addictions & Mental Health, Rehabilitative Care & Chronic Disease, and Seniors’ Health
through a wide variety of inpatient, residential, outpatient and community-based programs.
St. Joseph’s Foundation is excited to be part of the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel. This event
will not only raise the profile of our community on a national level, but also work to serve the people of the
region through the participation of local charities. The opportunity to utilize such an event to support our
mission is a unique opportunity that we are fortunate to be a part of.
CAMP QUALITY
Camp Quality Canada is part of an international organization founded in Australia in 1983 by Vera Entwistle.
Vera’s mission was to provide a program to support children with cancer and their families, an area not
being addressed by any other organization. It is now one of the largest children’s support programs in
the world. Camp Quality currently operates 57 camps in 20 countries, with the goal of expanding into two
additional countries per year. The largest camp operation is in Australia, where they have 14 programs.
Our camps are fueled by over 450 volunteers who give of their time and talents. These volunteers include
our companion counselors who ensure campers have fun, our medical practitioners who ensure the safety
of each child and the program and camp directors who lead our amazing programming.
Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer
Northern Ontario Families of Children With Cancer (NOFCC) is an independent Canadian volunteer based
registered charity established in 1998 by a group of parents of children with cancer. These parents wanted
to provide help and support to families, which was not available through other programs. Being parents
themselves, they recognized the particular difficulties involved in caring for a child with cancer and the
geographic challenges of living in the north. NOFCC serves all families who have been touched by childhood
cancer, families with a child on active treatment, including those off treatment or receiving follow up care,
and bereaved families.
