Hospitality and Life Skills 2016 INFORMATION PACK Thank you for your enquiry into our Hospitality and Life Skills Course 2016. Here is some important information for you. This could help you decide if you can commit to the level of work required to complete this programme. This programme is only available to 16-19 year olds. The purpose and structure of the course has a focus on building a person’s foundation skills to enable them to move more easily into further training or employment. There will be an emphasis on working to complete the National Certificate in Educational Achievement Level Two as well as the New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality, Entry Skills, Level Two, while also benefitting from all other aspects of the programme. Numeracy and literacy at level one will be a compulsory component of the course as well as completing unit standards and participating in all group activities. Start Date: Tuesday 2 February 2016 (subject to change) Finish Date: Friday 16 December 2016 Attendance: Compulsory 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 2.30pm. Course Structure: The course is split into 4 blocks of learning, each approximately 10 weeks long, with at least 1 week holiday at the end of each block (dates yet to be finalized). Application process: Fill in application form (find attached or on website) and send to us. You will be contacted for an interview at ATET (or we can come to you). You will be asked to sit an on-line Literacy and Numeracy assessment. This is a compulsory part of the course as it lets us know what skills you already have in these areas and what skills you may still need to learn. NZQA Unit Standards/Credits: There will be a number of compulsory credits to be completed to pass the course. The New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality level 2 is made up of 40 compulsory credits and will be delivered in conjunction with NCEA level 2 80 credits. As we are continually reviewing our programme to meet the needs of current students, some of the following list is subject to change. The Hospitality and Life Skills course will continue to use art and life skills as a platform to help students gain confidence in themselves and their ability to progress in life as an independent adult. Students will have opportunity to: gain their learner’s licence, engage regularly in group recreation (popular things in the past have included mini golf, 10 pin bowling, swimming, walking, paintball, BBQ, and movies). contribute to regular group meetings (having a say in their learning environment) make artwork such as Silver Jewellery, Bone Carving, Tie Dye and Screen printed T-shirts, Painting. be part of a small learning group in a supportive, accepting environment. This programme is held on site at our facility in Riwaka and we have a free mini-bus which can take students from the Nelson region in and out of our site on a daily basis.
