Projectors
Projector Guard™ Security
Cage (PG-1A and PG-2A)
The two Projector Guard (PG) Security Cages are the
PG-1A and PG-2A.
The PG-1A was designed for large projectors while the
PG-2A was designed for small projectors. Both PGs are
constructed with heavy gauge steel and assembled with
security screws. The PG design ensures proper
ventilation for your projector.
The PG Security Cages are mounted on a 1-1/2” NPT
ceiling-mounted pipe coupled with a projector mount.
The PG protects LDC/DLP projectors in most high-risk
environments, minimizing the probabilities of damage
and theft.
PG-1A
The PG provides excellent security and protection while
permitting easy access for projector alignment, lens
adjustment and maintenance.

READ INSTRUCTIONS
Pole Mounted Applications
Read all instructions before starting the installation.
This manual contains PG installation procedures that
cover the following pole-mounted applications:
INSPECT INSTALLATION
LOCATION
Because of the wide variety of possible mounting
situations, Chief Manufacturing only provides general
guidelines for the typical pole-mounted installation.
•
Projectors that are suspended from a 1-1/2” diameter
NPT threaded pipe using an RPA, which is not
included with the other shipped parts.
•
Projectors that are suspended from a 1” or 1-1/2”
diameter NPT threaded pipe. A pipe clamp (80) is
provided with the other shipped parts.
Study the following information carefully, and make
adjustments as necessary to fit your specific installation.
WARNING
Be especially aware of the overall weight of the
equipment, which includes weight of projector, projector
guard, and attaching hardware. There is a potential for
personal injury or equipment damage if the projector
guard (PG) is not adequately mounted.
PG-1A and PG-2A Differences
Except for the size difference and the number of security
screws, listed below, the installation procedure is the
same for both projector guards.
•
The PG-1A has 24 security screws (60).
•
The PG-2A has 20 security screws (60).
To assemble projector guard PG-2A, perform the same
procedure as described in the previous section, except
for the exception described above.

NOTE: Omit Step1 and proceed to Step 2 if the RPA mount
is already installed on the 1-1/2” NPT pipe.
1. Install four U-nuts over the slotted holes in the RPA
(see Figure 6).
2. Loosen the thumbnuts and disconnect your projector
from the RPA (see Figure 5).
3. Perform Step 1.
4. Install the RPA mount on the 1-1/2” NPT pipe as

Configuring the Fillers on the
Projector Guard
The open cutout in
Projector Guard is
designated as the
FRONT
To configure the projector guard, do the following.
NOTE: The open cutout in the projector guard is
designated as the FRONT.
Remove
screws and
make
hinged door
1. Remove security screws to make a hinged door on
the projector guard (as shown in Figure 7) as follows.
a.
Remove the security screws (60) from the top
and bottom, except for the two screws on the
right-hand side of the projector guard cage.
b.
Keep the security screws in a safe place for use
after the projector is mounted in place.
2. Place the projector inside the projector guard (see
Figure 7).
NOTE: The front and back fillers serve two different
purposes. When needed, the two front fillers can
be installed centered, off-center, or in parallel to
accommodate the various projector lens positions.
The two back fillers function as a barrier, but can
be installed in positions that provide easy access
to the audio/video/power connections.
Figure 7. Place Projector inside Projector Guard
Move filler to a
position where
projector lens is
unobstructed.
NOTE: In some installations, it may be unnecessary to
use all four fillers to obstruct access to the
projector.
3. Configure the front and back fillers (50) as follows:
a.
Check the position of the two front fillers (50) to
make sure the projector lens is unobstructed.
b.
Check the position of the two back fillers (50) to
make sure the audio/video/power connections
are unobstructed.
c.
To remove the fillers, remove the four security
screws (60) from the fillers (50) on the front and
back panels (40). See Figure 8.
d.
Reinstall the security screws (60) after changing
the position of the fillers (50).

Install Projector on RPA
To install the projector on the RPA, do the following.
PG-1A and PG-2A
SLB
1. Make sure that the SLB is installed on the projector
(see Figure 10). If the SLB is not installed, install the
SLB in accordance to the installation instructions
provided with the SLB.
2. To install the RPA, do the following:
a.
To connect the RPA to a new projector, refer to:
RPA Series LCD/DLP Ceiling Mount installation
instructions, part number 8811-000001.
b.
For a pole-mounted RPA, slide the slotted
openings on the RPA into the threaded studs on
the on the SLB (see Figure 11). Fasten the RPA
to the SLB with thumbnuts. Tighten the
thumbnuts.

Install Projector Guard on
Pole-Mounted Projector
To install the projector guard on the pole-mounted RPA,
do the following:
NOTE: Make sure you have the screws and washers in
your possession before starting this procedure.
Place Projector Guard (10A or 10B)
over pole-mounted projector.
Locate four security
screws (70) and
four flat washers
(110) in parts bag.
1. In the parts bag, locate the four ¼-20 x .50” security
screws (70) and four ¼” flat washers (110).
2. With the projector attached to the pole-mounted
RPA, do the following:
a.
Slide the projector guard (10A or 10B) into
position over the projector (see Figure 14) while
aligning the slotted holes in the projector cage
with the U-nuts (100) on the RPA.
NOTE: Do not tighten the security screws (70) at this point.
b.
Install four ¼-20 x .50” security screws (70) and
four ¼” flat washers (110) into the U-nuts (100)
on the RPA.

INSTALLING THE PG USING A
PIPE CLAMP
PG-1A and PG-2A
EXAMPLE: Items not included
To install the projector guard using a pipe clamp, do the
following:
NOTE: Read the “Important Warnings and Cautions” on
page 2.
Installation using a 1” and 1-1/2” diameter schedule 40
section of steel pipe with 1-1/2” NPT threads requires
securing the pipe to the building structure. We suggest
the use of a CMA ceiling plate to secure the pipe to a
structural member (see Figure 14).
Install the mount on the pipe as follows:
Figure 14. Installing Projector using
CMA Ceiling Plate
1. Using your projector, the security mount, and the
NPT pipe, determine the height location to install the
locking collar (top of security mount).
See Figure 17
on next page
2. Depending on the size of pipe, perform the
applicable step to install the clamp (80) and
fasteners as follows:
a.
For 1-1/2” NPT, install the clamp at the desired
height and secure using the U-bolt, two flat
washers (150), two lock washers (120), and two
5/16-18 hex nuts (130) (see Figure 15).
b.
For 1” NPT, install the clamp at the desired
height and secure using the U-bolt (90), two
nylon spacers (140), two flat washers (150), and
two 5/16-18 hex nuts (130) (see Figure 16).
