Lord, you place deep in our hearts the love of Mary, Help of Christians.
Through her prayers grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.

Marist Sisters’ College
girls successfully
nominated for Gifted
Science Students’
Workshops!
This week seven Marist Sisters’ girls were selected to be part of
a special Science program being conducted for the first time this
year by the Catholic Education Office, Sydney. The aims of the
program are to:
a) provide an opportunity for like minded students to form
networks across the Sydney Archdiocese and to meet regionally at
least once per term;
Frances Covel, Connie Sloane and Emily Sloane
b) foster the students’ knowledge and understanding of Science;
c) meet the unique needs of those students who share a genuine
passion for Science;
d) introduce students to the range of Science based activities and
resources available to them through the CSIRO.
Our Future Neuroscientist!
A big congratulations to Alice Fielding-Smith, Year
10 Chavoin House. Early last week Alice received the
exciting news that she had qualified to progress to the
New South Wales State final of the Australian Brain Bee
Challenge 2008. This is a huge achievement considering
over 9000 students from every State in Australia and
New Zealand participated. The quiz was extremely
challenging with university style questions based on
Neuroscience being given during a 30 minute quiz.
Alice has an interest in Neuroscience and hopes to study
it at university on completion of her HSC. She will now
compete for a place in the National final in Queensland.
The State final will be held at the University of Western
Sydney. The day will not be all hard work for Alice, she
will also view presentations by research neuroscientists,
go on lab tours and be in the running for some great
prizes!
We wish Alice all the best on the day! Good Luck.
Sarah Morgan, Jessica Kiraly,
Shardaye Clarke and Madeleine Peters
Each girl was required to submit a 300 word written statement
as to why they should be part of the project. Congratulations
to the following girls who have been selected for this exciting
program.

MSCW School Concert
MSCW’s music concert was held
on Tuesday night. Music groups
at MSCW performed for families
and friends. The opening acts
were two songs performed by
the cast of ‘Annie’ - this year’s
school musical. The two songs
were ‘Maybe’ and ‘Hard knock
life’. Madeleine Wilkinson
performed the role of Annie. She
sung beautifully. Throughout the
night the performances kept up
a great standard. Clarisse Djaja
performed a classic on the piano,
‘Barcarolle’ by Tchaikovsky. The
Year 9 music class performed
a variety of songs. They were
a pleasure to watch. The Year 7
music classes performed many songs that everyone enjoyed.
Finally, one of the best (and loudest) acts of the night was the
sound machine, performed by class 7M. Overall the music
concert on Tuesday night was a success. It was fun to watch and
everyone had a fantastic time.
On Tuesday 20th May MSCW held a music concert in the
Hall. 19 acts blew us away. There was an array of talent
up on stage that night and
everyone enjoyed it.
There was a sneak peak of
the upcoming musical Annie
with the orphans chorus led
by Madylin Wilkinson (as
Annie) singing Maybe and
Hard knock life. The chamber
ensemble, percussion
ensemble jazz band, senior
jazz band and Year 10
rock band all performed
fantastically. The Year 10
rock duo who sang come
home made my mum cry.
Year 12 soloists filled the
Hall with music and elective
classes and rock bands
made the night fun. The Year 7 choir sang three little
birds and 7W, 7M and 7A performed their class pieces. It
was a fun and musical night.

P & F Trivia Night
A great night was had by all who attended and that can be attested by how ‘vocal’ a lot of people were. A great big thank you to the
Ducker family for the major part of the night’s organization.
Thanks to the following people/organizations that made donations of prizes and other help on the night including:
• John & Janene Quinn of Quintessential Food & Liquor Market on Millwood Avenue, Chatswood West
for the first prize of wine tasting for the winning table – damn, we missed. That went to the Bryan table;
congratulations.
• Tracey Mitchell for $350 worth of Nutrimetics for the raffle, thank you.
• Anna Rapisarda for the Beauty Rap voucher and Nail Polishes.
• North Ryde RSL Club for vouchers to be spent at the gift shop.
• Star of Thailand for a dinner voucher.
• Greater Union, Burwood for movie tickets.
• Salon 120 Putney for vouchers.
• Beauty at the Glades for vouchers.
• Rose Unwin for gift packs, nibbles.
• On the stage to mark us all, Alex, Allan, Katherine and Miranda for help with the video projection when it
failed the MC.
• The supports for the supper supply.
• And those who help with the set up on Saturday afternoon, including Chris Bryan.
• And to anyone I have inadvertently missed on thanking, thank you.
This brings to an end of an era in that the Duckers will not be parents with young ladies at MSCW and thus the P & F will be looking
to someone new to take up the challenge for the Trivia Night next year.
Also, a major part of the office bearers of the P & F will be departing at the end of this year and we will be looking for more help for
next year.
If you think you can help in any way, please let us know. Your support will be very much appreciated by your daughters, thank you.

MCCS AFL
This year the College has entered two AFL
teams in the MCCS competition played on
Thursdays during periods 3 and 4. We have
a Junior team (Yr 7 and 8 girls) and a Senior
team (Yr 9 and 10 girls).
For the first two weeks of this term all
girls had training and skills sessions run
by AFL Development officers and began
competition last week.
The Juniors played Catherine Macauley in this first round and won
49-14. The girls showed many skills and had a enjoyable time. The
girls are getting use to kicking and marking under pressure.
The Seniors played Rosebank College in the first round. The
opposition consisted mainly of Year 11 and 12 girls but our girls
really showed guts and a lot of improvement throughout the
game. Their final quarter was outstanding with the girls out kicking
Rosebank in this quarter.
Another round of AFL was played on Thursday, 22nd May under a
cloudy sky, and fresh sea breeze. The senior girls fought hard and
played a convincing first quarter to get up early over a man-down
Macauley team. Tackles were clean, handballs were a plenty and
the Woolwich Power held out to come away 2 point winners, 3331, with only two behinds the difference.
Once again the junior Woolwich Tigers found it easy to gain meters
all over the park and jump up for some spectacular spekys. Of the
two games they played this round against Trinity and Macauley,
the Tigers won 16-43 and 21-41, respectively. Hopefully our juniors
will prove to be a great feeder team to our senior side.
A big thank you to Mr Higgs who has organised AFL jumpers for both teams to use for the duration of the competition. We
Ms Stimson and Mr Squadrito
thank you for your support.

With exams not far away for students in Years 7–10 preparation should be underway to be ready
for exam time. Girls should be reviewing their class work and making sure they have all notes and
handouts, and seeing if there is any information they do not fully understand. Revision in class is
often part of the exam preparation. Girls are able to request relevant revision if they have identified
information they are unsure about. Girls should also be ensuring they have a balanced lifestyle with
plenty of sleep and a healthy diet as well as beginning a revision and study program.
