Student instructions
Task
You have been given a brief to develop for a website to promote a business.
You will create an embedded database for Bay City Leisure Centre (BCLC). This will be
integrated into a website that you will also create for the company. You will source the
information on the activities offered, and develop a database with activities and
memberships that can be used to generate a membership card, and reports to be displayed
on the website.
You will be assessed on how well (how skilfully and efficiently) you implement complex
procedures to develop a relational database for BCLC.
You will be assessed on how well (how skilfully and efficiently) you implement complex
procedures to produce the dynamic website.

Steps for website
Plan the process to create and test your website to meet the specifications.
Select the software applications, tools and techniques you will use to create, edit, and
present the website.
Develop the website by applying a set of complex tools and techniques so that it meets the
specifications in the brief.
Apply data integrity testing procedures as appropriate to the media.
Ensure you address any legal, ethical and moral responsibilities as appropriate to the
outcomes.
You will need to show evidence of:

accuracy in the application of complex tools, techniques and procedures

independence with regard to decision making in the selection of software and
application of complex tools, techniques and testing procedures

applying complex tools and techniques, and producing the website in a way that
economises the use of resources.
Steps for database
As you work on the task, keep a record of what you do, including results of testing.
Independently develop a plan for your database to meet the specifications in Student
Resource A, and create the necessary forms. The database needs to be developed with a
well-organised table structure and in a way that produces the outcome that economises the
use of resources.
Information that you need is in Resource B.
Test your database as you develop it. Your teacher will provide you with some suggestions
on how to do this.
Final submission
Once you have fully tested your website and it is saved in appropriate format, hand in your
work for final assessment. Include:

website files

documentation with annotated notes to support your decision-making regarding
selection of software tools and application of techniques to implement your outcome.
When you have finished your database and thoroughly tested it, save the final version of
your outcome (using a suitable medium) and print a hard copy.

Make copies of all documents available to your teacher along with copies of:

data that is linked to your final outcome (for example, the form used for your database,
query results)

your record (log) of what you did and what happened at each stage

any other documents that you created as you developed your final outcome.


output queries for information about different member groups and statistics through
reports (a specific report requested by the owner to guide their management of the
activities they offer)


criteria while creating your website.
Elements and performance criteria
Date complete
Where to find?
Element 1
Plan and design an interactive website for a stakeholder.
Performance criteria
1.1
A brief is formulated that
describes the stakeholder's requirements
for the website in terms of purpose and
target users.
1.2
The brief defines the design
specifications to be met by the website in
order to provide a solution.
Range
includes but is not limited to – scripting language, enhancements,
placement of media, interactivity, accessibility, navigation, data validation, data
constraints.
1.3
A plan for the development of
the website is produced and modified at
each project milestone.
Range
project milestones, resources requirements, stakeholder consultation,
testing procedures, sitemap, directory structure.
1.4
A conceptual design of each
page of the interactive website is
produced and modified at each project
milestone.
Element 2
Develop a prototype interactive website
for the stakeholder using client-side
scripting.
Performance criteria
2.1
Model web pages are
produced in accordance with the design
specifications.
2.2
Website prototype is presented

to stakeholder for feedback, revised if
necessary and signed off in accordance
with the project milestones.
Element 3
Create an interactive website for the
stakeholder using client-side scripting.
Performance criteria
3.1
Web pages are produced in
accordance with the design specifications
and coding standards.
3.2
Documents and supporting
data are entered, edited, and formatted in
accordance with the design
specifications.
Range
includes but is not limited to – elements, attributes, event handlers.
3.3
Elements that allow data to be
inputted by users are added to the
website and are consistent with the
design specifications.
Range
elements may include but are not limited to – form, input, control, button.
A minimum of two elements are required.
3.4
A customised response to data
input is generated according to the
design specifications.
3.5
Website navigation is
consistent with the requirements of the
design specifications.
Range
may include but is not limited to – navigation bar, breadcrumbs, table,
search engine.

Element 4
Test and modify the website.
Range
all changes are documented.
Performance criteria
4.1
Testing follows documented
procedure contained in the plan.
4.2
Testing reviews the website for
accessibility, readability, legibility,
presentation, links and sequence, and
accuracy, and any needed improvements
are made.
4.3
Testing verifies that the
website realises the design
specifications.
Element 5
Operate and evaluate the website.
Performance criteria
5.1
Operation of the website
verifies that the website’s interactive
components are functional.
5.2
Operation of the website is
evaluated against the site’s ability to meet
the requirements of the brief.
5.3
An evaluation report is
prepared that identifies strengths and
limitations of the website and
recommends possible improvements for
future developments.
5.4
An end-user document is
created to facilitate use of the website.
Range
