Segway Inc. External Trademark
and Copyright Usage Guidelines
The following are general guidelines for the proper use of Segway Inc. trademarks and copyrights.
Any use of Segway Inc. trademarks that is inconsistent with these guidelines, or other unauthorized
use of Segway Inc. trademarks or marks that are confusingly similar to Segway Inc. trademarks,
may violate Segway Inc.’s trademark rights. Any use of Segway Inc. copyrights other than under the
limited license set for th below may violate Segway Inc.’s rights.
Ninebot™ and the shape icon are trademarks of Ninebot (Tianjin) Technology Co., Ltd.; ARM®, that of
ARM company; iPhone, iOS, that of Apple Inc. Android, that of Google Inc. The owners reser ve all the
rights of their trademarks, and Ninebot reser ves all the rights of Ninebot™ and the shape icon.
If you are a licensee of any Segway Inc. trademark or copyright rights, please contac t your Segway
representative to discuss your usage guidelines.
If you have any questions regarding these guidelines, or would like to request permission to use
Segway Inc. copyrighted materials in a manner other than expressly allowed in these guidelines,
please send your requests to media@segway.com. Please include your contac t information, what
content you seek to use and how it will be used. If you are requesting photo permission, please send
all copy and captions that will accompany the photo with your request.

Fair use of Segway Trademarks
Permissible Use:
You may make fair use of Segway Inc. word marks to: 1) make true, fac tual statements about Segway
Inc. produc ts bearing those marks, 2) truthfully communicate that your produc t is compatible with, or
designed for use with, Segway Inc. produc ts, or 3) truthfully communicate your company’s or organization’s interest in or use of Segway Inc. produc ts (providing that such use is otherwise legally permissible).
You should never use Segway Inc. logos or stylizations of the Segway Inc. word marks without the
express writ ten permission of Segway Inc.
Permissible fair uses of the Segway Inc. word marks include accurate statements such as:
The Segway® Personal Transporter (PT) is . . .
[Your product name] is designed for use with the Segway® Personal Transporter (PT).
[Your company or organization] is currently using the Segway® Personal Transporter (PT).
When making a fair use of a Segway Inc. trademark, you should acknowledge that Segway Inc.
owns the trademark. The following language is appropriate:
“Segway is a registered trademark of Segway Inc. in the United States and/or other countries.”
Prohibited Use:
1. You are NOT permit ted to combine or use the Segway Inc. trademarks with your produc t, ser vice,
or company name or any other term. Such use of Segway Inc. trademarks would NOT constitute a
fair use.
Correct: [Your name] Rentals - we rent Segway® Personal Transporters (PTs)
Incorrec t: [Your company name] Segway® Rentals
Correct: [Your product name] may be used with the Segway® Personal Transporter (PT)
Incorrec t: Segway® [your produc t name]
2. You are NOT permit ted to use Segway Inc. logos or stylized word marks unless you have express
writ ten permission to do so.
3. You are NOT permit ted to use Segway Inc. trademarks as meta tags for your web pages.

4. You are NOT permit ted to use Segway Inc. trademarks or any abbreviations of Segway Inc.
trademarks as your domain name or as par ts of your domain name.
Example: DO NOT USE www.segdecals.com or www.segwaydecals.com as the domain name of a business selling decals for use on the Segway® Personal Transpor ter.
5. You are NOT permit ted to use Segway Inc. trademarks in a manner that would disparage
Segway Inc., its af filiates, its produc ts, or ser vices (i.e. untruthful adver tising, false/misleading
promotional materials, etc.).
6. You are NOT permit ted to use Segway Inc. trademarks in a manner that implies an af filiation or
connec tion with Segway Inc.
Proper General Use of Segway Trademarks
Marking:
1. A reference to a Segway Inc. trademark should include the designation “®” (which indicates that
the trademark has been registered). Example: “The Segway® line of produc ts are available now.”
2. Materials which refer to Segway Inc. trademarks should also include a footnote identif ying the
mark or marks and stating something to the ef fec t that, for example, “Segway and the Segway
Logo are the registered trademarks of Segway Inc.”
3. When a trademark is used repeatedly in a document, the ® designation should, at a minimum, be
used when the trademark first appears, such as in the heading or title, or when first referenced in
the text.
4. Do not use the ® symbols in conjunc tion with the Segway Inc. company name. When referring to
Segway Inc., it is preferable to use the full name, “Segway Inc.”
Examples of correc t trade name usage and trade mark designation:
“This produc t was developed by Segway Inc.”
“Segway Inc.’s latest produc t has a variety of options.”
“This is the Segway Inc. plant where the Segway® Personal Transpor ter (PT) is made.”

Form of Use
1. Always use Segway Inc. trademarks as an adjec tive, not as a noun. A trademark should always be
used as an adjec tive and followed by a common or generic noun for the produc t in each writ ten
communication (or, if applicable, in broadcast). It is ver y impor tant that the mark never be used as
a descriptive noun for the produc t.
For example, when using the “Segway” trademark to refer to Segway Inc.’s Personal Transpor ter,
you should refer to the produc t as the Segway® Personal Transpor ter (PT) when the trademark
first appears in a document and as of ten as possible. Af ter the first reference, you may refer to the
produc t as the Segway PT.
Correct: “The Segway® Personal Transporter (PT) is available now!”
Incorrec t: “Segway is available now!”
Correct: “Get moving with a Segway® Personal Transporter (PT). The Segway PT is available now!”
Incorrec t: “Get moving with Segway.”
2. Do NOT use a Segway Inc. trademark in a plural or possessive form.
Correct: “The Segway® Personal Transporter is an easy and intuitive...”
Wrong: “A Segway’s design is an intuitive...”
Correct: “We bought 10 Segway® PTs.”
Wrong: “We bought 10 Segways”
Exception: As discussed above, you may use the possessive form with the company name.
For example: “Segway Inc.’s staf f is fantastic”
3. Do NOT use a Segway Inc. trademark as a verb. As discussed above, trademarks are adjec tives
and should never be used as a verb.
Correct: “Let’s glide over to John’s house on our Segway® PTs.”
Incorrec t: “Let’s Seg over to John’s house on our Segway® PTs.”
4. Do NOT shor ten, abbreviate or create acronyms out of any Segway Inc. trademark.
5. A trademark should always be writ ten with initial capital let ters or a stylized format. The only
exception to this rule is those cases where the mark is par t of a graphic design that has been
approved by Segway Inc.
6. Segway Inc. trademarks should never be connec ted to other words, such as by hyphens.
Incorrect: “[Your product] is a Segway-compatible product.”
7. Segway Inc. trademarks should not be used with any other trademarks, logos, designs, names or
other marks in a manner that could confuse the consumer or give the impression that the other
marks or their owners are associated with Segway Inc.

Limited use of Segway Copyrights
Information distributed by Segway Inc., including all information contained on Segway Inc.’s Web site
(www.segway.com), is copyrighted and protec ted by worldwide copyright laws and treaty provisions.
Segway Inc. authorizes the use of information contained on Segway Inc.’s Web site (www.segway.com)
(“Segway Information”) only as follows:
Personal, Non-Commercial Use
Segway Inc. authorizes you to view and download Segway Information only for personal, noncommercial use, subjec t to the following conditions: 1) you must retain, on all copies of the Segway
Information, all copyright and other proprietar y notices contained in such Segway Information;
2) you may not modif y the Segway Information in any way, reproduce, publicly display, distribute,
or otherwise use such Segway Information for any public or commercial purpose; 3) you must not
transfer the Segway Information to any other person unless you give them notice of, and they agree
to accept, the obligations arising under these terms and conditions of use, and 4) you must agree to
abide by any additional restric tions displayed on the Segway Web site (www.segway.com) as it may
be updated from time to time.
Journalistic Purposes
Segway Inc. authorizes journalists to view, download, and distribute copies of Segway Information
only for legitimate journalists purposes, subjec t to the following conditions: 1) you must retain, on
all copies of the Segway Information, all copyright and other proprietar y notices contained in such
Segway Information or otherwise appropriately at tribute ownership of Segway Information to Segway
Inc.; 2) you may not modif y the Segway Information in any way; 3) you may only reproduce, publicly
display, distribute, or otherwise use such Segway Information in connec tion with a newspaper,
magazine, broadcast, or Internet media outlet; 4) you must not transfer the Segway Information
to any other person unless you give them notice of, and they agree to accept, the obligations
arising under these terms and conditions of use, and 5) you must agree to abide by any additional
restric tions displayed on the Segway Web site (www.segway.com) as it may be updated from time to
time.

Rider Line Drawings
The Segway Rider Line Drawings (examples shown below) are copyrighted and protec ted by
worldwide copyright laws and treaty provisions. Segway does not authorize the use of the Segway
Rider Line Drawings, or any derivatives thereof, for any public or commercial purpose.
