(NYSE: CBG) today announced that Jim Reid, President of the company’s U.S. Eastern Division, has been appointed by President George W. Bush to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC). Mr. Reid—the only representative of the commercial real estate industry among the members of the board—was sworn in during a ceremony yesterday in Washington, D.C. “It’s a tremendous honor to not only be selected by the President of the United States for such an important role, but to be able represent the commercial real estate industry while working to ensure the continued safety of our great nation,” said Mr. Reid. “I look forward to collaborating with some of the brightest minds from across the country to strengthen our security initiatives for critical infrastructure.” Established in October 2001, the NIAC advises the President, through the Secretary of Homeland Security, on the security of critical infrastructures, both physical and cyber, that support the United States' national security and economic sectors. The Council works to improve partnerships between the private and public sectors for safeguarding information systems infrastructures and provides counsel on a variety of issues, ranging from risk assessment & management to information sharing and protective strategies. The NIAC is composed of up to 30 appointees, many of whom are senior-level executives representing major sectors of the economy—energy, banking and finance, transportation, information technology and manufacturing. The Council also includes leaders from academia, state and local government, and law enforcement. The NIAC meets publicly four times a year, taking on four to six major studies, with the goal of delivering quality, well-researched reports within 12 months of inception. The President meets with the Council at least once a year and regularly gives directives regarding “issues of interest.” As President of CB Richard Ellis’ U.S. Eastern Division, Mr. Reid oversees more than 60 offices in markets including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Washington, D.C. The Division represents one of CB Richard Ellis’ largest operating divisions. Mr. Reid previously served as Chairman of CBRE’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Division. Mr. Reid has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Virginia.
