An economical friction-fit system to assemble frames for strong, compact, lightweight non load-bearing partitions, our metal stud partitioning
is ideal for use in domestic and commercial situations, for heights up to 10.2m and a wide range of partition thicknesses.
When installing it you should ensure that electrical cables that pass through floor or ceiling are protected by grommets when installing studs.
For speedy, accurate installation we recommend use of an electrically or battery operated screw gun.

NEW Partition Brace PB24 – due to the unique
design of this product, the lips are simply
snipped out where the partition brace overlaps
the stud. Slots are pierced to allow for studs to
be erected at 400 or 600mm centres.

In order to extend them, single C Studs can
be easily spliced together. Be sure to overlap
the C Studs at least 600mm and fix them
together with steel pop rivets stud interlocking
tool or wafer head screws on both flanges.

Boxed Studs
To create greater rigidity and height and
to provide support at doorways, C Studs
may be boxed together. To enable this
the bearing faces of the C Studs are
asymmetrical – 32mm and 34mm – simply
nest short and long faces alternately and
snap together.

Plasterboard Fixing Centres
General Points
All Acoustic test data is done in laboratory conditions, built at 600mm
centres and are measured as RwdB figures. The “on site “ conditions in
which the partition is to be built may have a significant effect on the test
figures quoted, and due to this it is unlikely that the RwdB figures quoted
from laboratory tests will be repeated in “on site” conditions. Deflection
head details can also negatively affect performance please contact local
branch for details. If stud centres are less than 600mm please contact
local branch for potential acoustic loss.
Double Layer Installations
Inner layers can be fixed at 600mm centres but outer layers must be fixed
at 300mm centres to the metal framework with the appropriate length
screw. The second layer of plasterboard should be fixed with all joints
staggered in relation to the first layer assuming studs fixed at 600mm
centres.
Fixing of Floor and Ceiling Tracks
All tracks must be secured to the floor and ceiling in the centre of the
profile at 600mm centres with suitable fixings.
Butt boards together- don’t force boards into position. Fix the boards
so that the decorative paper side is on the outside to receive jointing
treatment. Fixings must penetrate steelwork by a minimum of 10mm,
they should be installed not closer than 13mm from cut edges and 10mm
from their bound edges. The boards should be located on the site line on
the centre line of framing (except Speedline Acoustic studs where site line
is slightly

Single Layer Installations
Plasterboard must be fixed at 300mm maximum centres to the metal
framework with the appropriate length screw. Plasterboard joints must be
staggered from one side of the partition to the other.
For all partitions i.e. C Studs, I Studs, Resilient Bar, Wall Liner and Wall
Furring the following applies:-
For 94mm and 148mm tracks we recommend two rows of staggered
fixings at 600mm centres.
Partition Brace

(if required) we recommend the use of wafer head screws.

Deflection head
When partitions are erected to span the
full height between floors, structural slabs or
beams, accommodation for movement may
be needed. The deflection heads shown will
allow for movement up to 15mm and protect
the partition from damage. These details have
been both tested for fire resistance to BS 476
part 20 & 22 section 5. Fix plasterboard,
allowing for a 15mm deflection at the
partition head; do not screw fix the
plasterboard to the studs or track above the
Partition Brace.

Deflection heads can lose up to 4dB on
acoustic performance, please contact local
branch for details.

To ensure they do not lie back to back,
electrical sockets should be offset. Use Flat
Strip FS24 or Partition Brace PB24 to support
outlet boxes and seal around with acoustic
sealant. Two layers, either side of 12.5mm
standard plasterboard, will achieve 60
minutes of fire resistance.

Clamping Strip
The Speedline galvanised clamping strip is
used to cover joints when building partitions
and either a plastic or aluminium cover
section clips over the clamping strip to give a
good finished appearance.
