This provides orthogonal deflection with respect to the first sweep direction. Typically fast synchroscan sweep units are used to drive the first deflection plates. In the double sweep configuration there is typically a fast sweep on the X-axis of the readout image and a slow sweep on the Y-axis. Instead of using the full lenght input slit either part of the length or only a point source is used. This sweep unit can be used in single-shot mode or at high trigger frequencies to accumulate many optical events on the screen of the streak camera before the screen image is captured by the readout camera. This mode provides high system sensitivity. In single-shot mode, jitter correction techniques can be used, to improve temporal resolution when signals with large jitter have to be measured.
