Referee Instructions
1. On the Wednesday before the game check the schedule on the web site for any changes. By
Thursday 6PM E-mail (or text) the referee coordinator confirming your availability. Failure to call
may result in game being re-assigned to someone else. If you cannot make a game call the referee
coordinator first, do not attempt to find a replacement unless you cannot get in touch with the
referee coordinator.
2. Referee bags with balls in the brown bins at Traphagen (near parking lot entrance to field), the
High School Stadium (behind the scoreboard) and Hopper Ave. field (behind the softball
backstop). All bags must be returned to the bins if there is no game on the field following you.
Make sure you have the appropriate size balls.
3. Your uniform equipment consist of the following:
a. Yellow referee shirt and black socks
b. Black shorts any gym shorts will do
c. A watch, preferably a wrist watch that has a count down timer (i.e. you set it for 8 mins
and it alerts you as time is running out).
d. Whistle and referee Wallet – supplied to you.
e. Coin (for coin toss)
You can purchase a basic shirt and socks at the Soccer Post in Franklin Lakes (tell them you are
with Waldwick Soccer Assoc). The watch can be purchased at any department store. You will be
reimbursed up to $60 once you submit a receipt. Referee wallets and whistles will be supplied. No
jewelry is to be worn.
4. Read the division rules (including duration of quarters and number of players) prior to the game.
5. Be prompt. Arrive at the field 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, in uniform (shirts
tucked in) and with all your equipment.
6. Pre-game activities include inspecting the field, insuring the ball is properly inflated, checking in
the players, the coin toss and recording the kickoff and field info in the pad.
7. Start the games promptly. Quarters may not be shortened. For Div. 6 games only, If there is not
sufficient time to complete the 4th quarter before the next game’s kickoff time end the game after 3
quarters.
8. Record all scores on the pad.
9. Record all incidents with coaches and parents on the pad. Note if the excessive scoring rules are
broken and what if any action was taken by the coaches to discourage excessive scoring.
10. Notify coaches of any issues with parents and ask them to address the issue.
11. Insure the safety of the kids at all times.
12. After the game complete the referee reports. Div. 6 reports are to be filled out on-line at
www.waldwicksoccer.com under the referee section. Div 2-4 reports are filled in online at
www.nwbsa.org . All reports are due on Monday at 6pm. Only 1 report per game needs to be filed.
Late reports to NWBSA result in fines to the association. Payments are made based on the reports
filed so please be prompt.

Choose one team as the Home and one as the
visitor and enter team and score.
Mark ratings for players, coaches and

Include comments explaining intolerable and
poor ratings.
If excessive goals differential include comments
as to what actions the coach took to avoid.
Enter any cards given at the field.
Include whether it was a player, coach or
spectator.
Include name (or description if name is not
known ).
Type of card (red vs yellow)
Reason (must match what is shown on report)
Include a description on what behavior led to
the card , any in appropriate reaction and
anything else you deem relevant
Submit the Survey
If you do not submit then the report is lost
