Course Number: LIS 23 Credit: 3 units II. Course Title: Library Internship: In-­‐Campus Training Pre-­‐Requisite: LIS 1-­‐22, III. Course Description: Field work or practicum in different areas of the HC DC-­‐LRC as a preparation to the off-­‐campus internship activity. This is a supervised application of knowledge, theories, principles, skills and competencies expected of a librarian in the actual library setting through practice work, seminar sessions, individual/group conferences, and a summary report interpreting the field experience in oral presentation at the end of the semester. IV. Course Objectives: A. INSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVES
HCDC provides the students the opportunities, atmosphere, and training
to enhance their dignity as persons and help them to acquire a Christian value
system that nurtures faith, truth, justice, wisdom, peace and service. It further
improves their awareness on the contemporary social, political, economic,
cultural, moral and other issues to enable them to become socially sensitive and
creatively responsive to the changing needs of their environment. It helps them
develop to become competent professionals, dynamic and religious citizens who,
as leaders and followers, will participate meaningfully in the functions of society
to improve the quality of human life.
B. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

b.1.1 Evaluate services and activities in the respective exposure areas

b.2.2 Manifest positive attitudes towards the application of theories and principles
of librarianship
b.2.3 Show appreciation in assessing the implementation and performance in the
area through a rubric.

b.3.2 Perform services and other related activities in each of the area

Course Requirements: a. Eligibility: BLIS students have taken and passed all the academic requirements; Check prerequisites b. Application letter; letter to internship areas (for conflicts, to be settled within the program and the college) Finding internship program areas In-­‐campus 1. Arrangement with direct supervisors – (with written permission) and attendance to area orientation 2. Four (4) major examinations, quizzes 3. Assigned readings and reaction papers 4. Projects: Application of new technologies, i.e. BLOGS 5. Reflective Daily Journal in every library area– contains the detailed description of the intern’s daily work: problem and projects. Grades for internship (evaluation by the intern supervisor, & adviser, projects and written evaluation 6. Attendance to the internship areas, classes, required activities (for a, meetings related to internship and LISCO/BLIS Program, college and institutional events 7. Participates internship area activities: conduct orientation, instruction program, 8. Sending off – (during the mass) in internship uniform (to process uniform permit) 9. Oral presentation (reflective on how does the internship training affects you and written outputs 10. Narrative Reports (edited, hard bound-­‐for Off-­‐Campus) 11.
