COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide theoretical and practical knowledge to confidently and competently teach students with disabilities in public school settings.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to:
1. Understand the implications of legislation for students with disabilities
2. Reviews motor development and legal issues that may influence assessment
3. Understand the process of assessment in adapted physical education
4. Learn instructional strategies and techniques for students with disabilities
5. Describe general characteristics about disabilities

You also have the ability to check your grade through the course site and are responsible for doing so every two weeks to avoid grade discrepancies or possible errors.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance/participation in class is expected even though lecture attendance is NOT calculated as part of the course grade. If a student miss the class, the students will be held responsible for all information covered in lecture, contained in handouts and assigned readings.
EXAMINAION POLICY
An unexcused absence from a scheduled examination results in complete loss of points for that particular examination. An excused absence requires instructor approval at least three (3) calendar days prior to the examination date. NO late exam will be offered.
CELL PHONE RULE
All cell phones must be put away and turned off during class, no exceptions. Do not answer
the phone or text message during class or I will ask you to leave the room.
ACADEMIC HONESTY
It is expected that students will complete their work independently or cooperatively according to the specifications of the learning task. When appropriate, students will be expected to properly reference the writings and ideas of others. Instances of cheating, plagiarism or other forms of dishonesty that are discovered by the instructor will result in at least a failing grade on the assignment for all those involved.

COURSE SYLLABUS
This syllabus is the instructor communication with the students and will be followed. It is the student’s responsibility to read this syllabus and to ask the instructor to clarify any aspect that is unclear.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: You are responsible for your learning

If you choose not to attend class, it is your responsibility to contact another students who is willing to provide you with class notes and/or download lecture materials from the Black board.

You are responsible for reading the assignments before class. Lectures may not cover all material due to time constraints.
3.
You are expected to participate in class discussions and group work.
4.
If you do not understand a topic or assignment, it is your responsibility to contact the professor.

POLICY ON WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT:
All written work must be submitted on the day that the assignment is due . If you are not able to attend a class when an assignment is due, you must make arrangements to submit your work prior to your absence. Late assignments will receive a mark of zero , unless prior arrangements are made

ASSIGNMENT, DUE DATE, AND POINT VALUE

Article Review Paper

Students need to find, read, and summarize a journal article that addresses the topic of inclusion and/or inclusive physical education. You need to judge the quality of the article based on your review of the following components of the article: the problem and the purpose; hypotheses; method; sample; results and discussion. Also, provide your general comments/opinions about the article. Carefully organize your information and don’t simply copy the author’s abstract or work. Articles must be TYPED using 12point font double spaced . The paper should not exceed 4 pages. Articles will be graded on adherence to format and substantive content.
A copy of the article must be included.
You should begin your review with your name in the top right or left hand corner and follow with the citation information consistent with APA (5 th
edition) format. Then begin your review.

Case Study Project—Inclusive PE
Due Date: December 2, 2008

As part of the course you will be expected to conduct case study. You can use your school where you currently teach or other schools as your project target. You will try to identify how inclusive physical education is working in your school along with a final report. Additional details of this project will be provided during the class.

There will be six, 6 point open-book, open-note quizzes through out the courses. I will count your top five in-class quizzes scores. Because I drop your lowest in class quizzed score, you CANNOT make up these quizzes fro any reason. First quiz will be on
Tuesday, October 21. Second quiz will be on Tuesday, November, 23. Quizzes cover
Chapters 19-27 and Appendix B in Sherrill textbook.

Only one exam will be given. Details about the exams will be explained in class.
