IUTC International Training Course Sustainable Urban Energy Gangwon Province, Republic of Korea Period: 24-28 November 2008 Venue: Chuncheon Sejong Tourist Hotel Co-organized by IUTC, IHS, UN-HABITAT Objectives •To develop a better understanding of the actual and future urban energy concepts and impacts: built environment, energy consumption, environmental health impacts, sustainable energy production and use. To • introduce and to discuss the technical and eco-financialaspects of the new urban energy technologies and approaches: energy efficiency, storage systems, bio-combustibles, wind turbines, photovoltaic cells, hydrogen, nuclear, hydro power, etc. •To appreciate international and local governments strategies, policies and instruments in addressing energy demand, sustainable energy supply and urban planning (growth), •To offer a set of effective decision support tools and methods for sustainable urban energy planning, thus •To provide entry points for collaboration with energy suppliers in particular the private sector, •Through information and case studies, to provide a background that enables a better understanding of sustainable urban energy planning options and practices, and •To contribute to the achievement of sustainable urbanization through enhanced decision-making process and project implementation. Who should apply Participants from the Asian and Pacific region are mainly targeted, such as: •Policy makers from local governments (mayors, councilors etc.), CEOs •Mid- or high-level officials of the ministry of energy or managers of the energy facilities •Community leaders or representatives, or NGOs engaging in decision-making process ✽Number of participants: up to 30 persons Course Fee and Financial Support •Course Fee: 600 USD per person •Full or partial scholarship for participants from non-OECD countries in the Asian and Pacific region. ✽Applicants may apply for full or partial scholarship by marking on the application form. ✽Scholarship recipients will be announced upon announcement of successful applicants •Scope of Scholarship and other support for participants ✽Full Scholarship (10 persons): roundtrip airfare, accommodation, meals, course fee ✽Partial Scholarship (5 persons): accommodation, meals, course fee ✽Other participants (15 persons): accommodation, mealsare included in the course fee. •Scholarships are limited to one scholarship per municipality and 3 scholarships per country. Therefore, each applicant has full understanding of or practical experience in the implementation of his/her case study. •Full version needs to be submitted by 30 October 2008.
