Use visual aids: • Use your eJourney Collectables as templates to create larger collectables to show to the class (as visual aids) during your presentation. Be creative. You might redraw them or create sculpted models of them. Be sure to make your recreated collectables large enough for all the class to see during your presentation. • Use the eJourney Timeline to point out dates and to show where in time you discovered and collected your eJourney Collectables. (You will place your smaller collectables on the timeline after you use them as templates and before your presentation.) Complete the worksheet below and use the information from all six questions as a guide during your presentation: 1) What is your renewable energy source: ________________________________ 2) What were your collectables, where and when did you collect them and what did you do with them? (fill in the table on the following page) Lesson 3: eJourney Presentation Worksheet 90 eJOURNEY MODULE FOR GRADES 4 - 6 Student Handout: eJour ney Presentation Worksheet Collectable Item: Date Collected: Place Collected: continued What was done with it: Lesson 3: eJourney Presentation Worksheet 91 eJOURNEY MODULE FOR GRADES 4 - 6 Student Handout: eJour ney Presentation Worksheet continued 3) What were the final 7 collectables you ended up with and used to build your powerplant? ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________ 4) Describe one social cost and one social benefit of your energy source: __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ 5) Describe one environmental concern (cost) associated with your energy source: __________________________________________________________________ 6) How can your renewable energy Power Our Future? __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ Lesson 3: eJourney Presentation Worksheet 92 eJOURNEY MODULE FOR GRADES 4 - 6 Lesson 3: Renewable Energy Timeline 93 eJOURNEY MODULE FOR GRADES 4 - 6 Instructions for Constructing the eJourney Timeline Be sure you have printed all 7 pages of the timeline. They are in order from 4000 BC to Present. Each page spans 1000 years except the final, supplemental page. Important! An optional, supplemental section of timeline is provided which spans from 1900 to present. This section of the timeline is on a different scale to accommodate the large number of more recent discoveries. You may choose to use this instead of the final four inches of the eJourney Timeline. If you do use this, be sure to point out the change in scale to students. The following directions are the same for each page of the timeline (Note: It is best if you construct the timeline one page at a time.): Cut the right hand margin off each page using the dashed lines as a guide. Cut each page into strips along the cut guidelines (the dashed lines). You will have four (4) timeline strips per page. Each strip lines up to the right of the strip above it on the page. (You may also refer to the dates as guides.) Align the timeline strips end to end in chronological order. Tuck one strip under the other to keep the actual timeline (the solid line) unbroken. To keep the scale consistent at page breaks, use the date markers to align the strips. Place the labeled date marker on top of the unlabeled one. Tape the timeline strips together. (Note: There may be a tiny break in the printed line, you can fill this in with a dark pen.) Your timeline is complete! Now tape (or otherwise affix) the timeline to the classroom wall. Because of its length, you may have to wrap it around the room. You may also put it up in sections in different locations of the room. Just be sure that is it obviously presented in chronological order. Remember to leave space around the timeline for students’ collectables and information cards.
