Course Objectives: At completing this module the student should be able to: 1- Understand the basic vectors and calculus used in describing the field theory. 2- Understand the basic principles of dielectric and ferromagnetic materials. 3- Understand the basic principles of electric and magnetic fields. 4- Introduced time changing electric and magnetic field. Week Course Academic Calendar Subject Electromagnetic mathematical tools: Vectors, Line and Surface integral, Introduction to three coordinate system The static electric field and Charged particles electric field: Coulomb’s law, Electric field intensity, Potential differences. Electric flux and Maxwell equation, Capacitance and Capacitors. The static electric field in dielectrics: Electric dipoles, Polarization, Capacitors with dielectric and energy density. Coaxial TL, Poisson’s and Laplace’s equation. The steady electric field and electric current: : Current density ,conductivity and resistivity. Dielectric ,Conductor and semiconductor, Electromotive forces The static magnetic field of steady electric currents : Biot & Savart law, Forces between conductors. Magnetic flux and magnetic moment, Solenoid, Inductor and Inductance, Magnetic field. Conductors and charged particles moving in static magnetic field: Charge moving in static magnetic field, Rotary motor Hall-Effect generator, Moving conductor in static magnetic field, Generator The static magnetic field of ferromagnetic materials: Torque, Permeability, Magnetic Dipoles and magnetization ,energy in inductor Magnetic circuit, Reluctance and Permeance ,Capless circuit ,Magnetic circuit with air gap The changing electric and magnetic fields: Faraday’s law, moving conductor in magnetic field, Self and mutual inductance. Two in-class exams will be given. Each will cover about 40% of lectures Final Exam: The final exam will cover all the class material. The report will be used as bonus points (added to the participation) to help the students with their grade and must and discuss their results with the instructor in order to better understand the course. One report at least will be handed to the students. The report will ask the students to solve, derivate, and build a relation of electrostatic and magnetic fields. The report must included abstract, analytical data ,conclusion and references. . Project: The project must cover material discussed during the previous of lectures. The project will be used as bonus points (added to the exam) to help the students with their grade and must be done through examination period or before, their results with discuss with instructor in order to better understand the course.
