(What we did) Agilent had a unique challenge for AKA: help them create a new
space for their company store within an existing coffee shop and cafe—minimizing
but retaining the cafe, while defining a branded space for company products. AKA
developed bold graphic scenes representing the active lives of Agilent employees
and how Agilent products might fit into those activities.

(What we did) Perigon wanted an identity that stayed away from the business
suit and briefcase cliché’s of the financial industry. AKA delivered an identity that
played off of their name—geometric lines over dynamic, natural landscapes. They
also needed a concise presentation piece that could serve as an overview of their
services as well as hold additional client-tailored materials. AKA designed a folder
brochure that served both purposes.

Institute’s publications group, developed a cohesive identity—a system of acronym
icons and branding elements—applied across all materials. AKA created a systemwide collateral strategy that focused the right materials to the right audiences.

Applied Materials
EXPERTISE:
Strategic Design
( A l s o k n o w n a s ) the global leader in nanomanufacturing technology solutions,
creating innovative equipment, service and software products for the fabrication
of semiconductor chips, flat panels, and the next generation electronics. AKA’s
creative team produced Applied Material’s annual reports, and a wide range of other
strategic design pieces through the ‘90s and into 2003.
A K A : Ahmann Kadlec Associates
Applied Materials
Semiconductor Manufacturing
(What we did) Each Applied Materials annual report was a dynamic balance of
cutting-edge technology, an innovative workforce, and a global business strategy. For
example, 2001’s report tackled getting technology to “the next billion people”.
Large themes with ambitious goals, illustrated through editorial photography and
reinforced with strong informational graphics, position Applied as a global leader.

Semiconductor Manufacturing
(What we did) Applied’s Strategic Knowledge Solutions group needed a comprehensive guide to change management for its managers. The 90-page booklet served
as both a guide and workbook. Graphically, it played off the chaos theory idea of
“the butterfly effect”— where massive results can come about through minimal actions.
The booklet was structured around a tabular system organizing the material into
before, during and after change.

(What we did) Well before the heightened scrutiny in corporate ethics, Applied
Materials worked with the AKA creative team to take what was essentially a dry,
white paper standards document and create a piece that would come out of the file
cabinet and onto the desk. Structured around beautiful photography representing
Applied’s core values, the small book was engaging and informational.

noticed them gone.
Jill has the uncanny, “six degrees” ability to find, within
minutes of meeting someone, a connection between them
and someone she knows. And yes, she has met Kevin Bacon.

to each project that comes through the door. He brings to
each project solid concept development and unique creative
solutions — backed by strong illustration and Photoshop
skills. His work for Applied Materials, Hewlett-Packard, LSI
Logic, Adobe, Symantec, and Stanford University brings
a broad experience, in both industry and scale, to each
new project.
Geoff is an honors graduate of California Polytechnic State
University, San Luis Obispo, with a B.S. in graphic design,
and additional studies in London. His work has won awards
from Communication Arts, Graphis, Print, and AR 100.
He has been published in FingerPrint and Typography 23.
His work is in the permanent collection of the AIGA Design
Archives at the Denver Museum of Art.
Geoff lives in San Jose with his wife and two children.
It is through this sense of connections and awareness to
details that Jill is able to create spot-on solutions to client
problems. To every project Jill brings a big-picture perspective,
exceptional organizational skills and strong art direction.
She has worked with a large variety of impressive clients —
Bank of America, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Space Systems
Loral, Habitat for Humanity and Stanford University to name
just a few. She is as comfortable on an international photo
shoot as she is design a logo for a local start-up. Jill shares

direction of projects through to completion.
Jill Kadlec is a graduate from Art Center College of Design
in Pasadena, California. Previously she earned a B.F.A. in
