Trails open to the public dawn to dusk, museum hours vary (call ahead). Take Exit 70N off NY Route 17 to Harry L. Drive. Turn left on Harry L. Drive to the first right turn, which is Oakdale Road. Turn right onto Oakdale Road and drive about 2.7 miles. Choconut Creek Flood Wall Vestal, NY 13850 This is a level walk with a view of a hill and woods seen across the creek. From the Four Corners area, take Main Street 0.5 miles, on your right is Barlow Park, a Town of Vestal park with picnic pavilion and playground equipment. Follow the wood fence by the parking lot to the corner of the rear fence. You will find a short decline connecting to a dirt trail. Go right on this trail a short distance to the start of the floodwall. The lake is stocked for fishing, and there is also a large picnic area and swimming area with beach. Groomed cross-country ski trails and equipment rentals complete this yearround park. Hawkins Pond Nature Area 224 Scouten Hill Road 5 miles off NY Route 17 Windsor, NY 13865 Website: www.gobroomecounty.com/parks/hawkins Broome County’s Hawkins Pond Nature Area offers approximately four miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails, with additional trails found in the State Forest on the other side of McAlister Road. Take NY Route 17 to Windsor Exit (NY Route 79). Turn right on NY Route 79 and go approximately 3.5 miles to Edson Road. Turn right onto Edson Road. and go 2 miles to Scouten Hill Road. Turn left onto Scouten Hill Road and go approximately 2 miles to the park. IBM Glen Robinson Hill Road Johnson City, NY 13790 Website: www.watermancenter.org/the_glen.htm The IBM Glen property, once part of the former IBM Country Club, is now owned and managed by the Waterman Conservation Center of Apalachin, NY. The Glen comprises over 200 acres in the Town of Union with several miles of marked trails using 3-inch diameter plastic blue, red and yellow markers placed on trees five to seven feet above the ground. From NY Route17W or 17E take Exit 70N, turn left at light. Continue west on Harry L. Drive which becomes Watson Boulevard. Turn right onto Country Club Road, and near the top of the hill turn right onto Robinson Hill Road. Look for the entrance to the Glen on the right-hand side of the road. Hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing can all be found on its several miles of marked hilly trails, some of which crisscross scenic creeks and streams. Nathaniel Cole Park 1674 Colesville Road Harpursville, NY 13787 Website: www.gobroomecounty.com/parks/natcole This Broome County park, located in Harpursville on Colesville Road, features a 53-acre lake as well as self-guided nature trails, including a 1.5 mile loop around the scenic lake. From Binghamton, take NY Route 17 east / I-81 south to Exit 3 (Industrial Park Exit). At bottom of ramp, turn left at the light onto Colesville Road. Follow Colesville Road 6 miles. Entrance will be on your right. Otsiningo Park 1 Otsiningo Park Bevier Street Binghamton, NY 13901 Website: www.gobroomecounty.com/parks/otsiningo Scenically located along the Chenango River, this Broome County park provides a paved bicycle and pedestrian path and is located off of Bevier Street. Otsiningo got its name from the Indians whose village was on this site in the 18th century. From Binghamton take I-81 North to Exit 5 (Front Street). Turn left at the traffic signal onto Front Street (US Route 11 South). Turn left at the first traffic signal onto Bevier Street. Otsiningo Park is immediately on the left. The park is on the right (Howell Drive), just a short distance from the exit. Port Dickinson Community Park Chenango Street Binghamton, NY 13901 Website: www.portdickinsonny.us/park.html This community park is found on the eastern shore of the Chenango River where the I-88 bridge crosses over the river. A level three quarter mile walking trail along the perimeter of the park has been built, complete with exercise stations. The park is located in upper Port Dickinson, just north of the Municipal Hall, with one entrance/exit on Chenango Street. Tracy Creek State Forest Vestal, NY 13850 Website: www.dec.ny.gov/lands/8102.html Tracy Creek State Forest covers 512 acres in the town of Vestal in Broome County and the town of Owego in Tioga County along the NY/PA border. Although no formal trails exist in the forest, access through the woods is good due to extensive trails created by firewood cutters. These areas are used for hiking, skiing, horseback riding and mountain biking. From Vestal, go south from Ross Corners along Tracy Creek Road for about 3 miles, Tracy Creek Road then turns into Collins Road which runs through the forest before entering Pennsylvania.
