OPERATING MODES
MANUAL
Using the BUTTON on the receiver only, not using a remote control. The BUTTON on the receiver
can be used to do simple operations such as ON / OFF, dimming, and delayed OFF.
DEFAULT
Using a remote control without advanced programming; the receiver is awakened each time you want
to use it by holding down a key for a few seconds until it responds. Any key on a remote can be used
the same as the BUTTON on the receiver to control ON / OFF, and dimming. Default mode is
enabled at all times except when double digit addressing is used.
LEARNING
Learning mode is used to program the receiver for advanced mode, and to change some settings
ADVANCED
The receiver is programmed to associate specific keys with certain functions. Both single and double
digit addressing allow you to easily select one receiver, in a room with many receivers, and control it
separately. Double digit addressing permits addressing a larger number of receivers. Using double
digit addressing disables default mode and allows much better control over the receiver.
MANUAL MODE
In manual mode, no remote control is needed. The BUTTON on the receiver is used for changing the settings, and
can be used to do simple operations such as ON / OFF, dimming, and delayed OFF.
Press the BUTTON to turn on or turn off the appliance connected to the receiver.
Press and hold the BUTTON to step through ten power levels, release the BUTTON at the desired level.
The steps will reverse direction at each end of the power level scale.
The steps will reverse direction if you release, then press and hold again.
The last power level set is retained in memory.
The delayed off feature is set by double-pressing the BUTTON.
The LED on the receiver will pulse to indicate the current setting.
Each double-press will advance the setting to the next level.
To determine the current delay timer setting, double-press the BUTTON, then press and hold the button

3 short pulses = 60 minute delay
4 times base delay
4 short pulses = 120 minute delay
8 times base delay
As delivered, the receiver has a base delay of 15 minutes. If desired, the base delay can be changed to 30 minutes, 1
hour or 2 hours.
To change the base delay time, first disconnect the receiver from power.
Then, while holding the BUTTON down, reconnect power, the LED will come on.
The LED will remain on for 3 seconds after the BUTTON is released to indicate it is ready to program.
During these 3 seconds, the BUTTON must be pressed to advance the delay base time to the next setting.
The LED on the receiver will pulse to indicate the current setting.
1 long pulse
= return to factory setting
1 short pulse = 15 minute base delay
2 short pulses = 30 minute base delay
3 short pulses = 60 minute base delay
4 short pulses = 120 minute base delay
The LED will come on for 3 seconds after the pulses have ceased to indicate it is ready to program again.
During these 3 seconds, the BUTTON must be pressed to advance the delay base time to the next setting.
After the 3 seconds , the LED will go off, and the receiver will return to normal operation.
DEFAULT MODE
In this mode the receiver constantly watches for signals from the remote and is ready to learn simple
commands. Choose any key on the remote that will not affect any appliance, such as a TV or VCR, that is already in
use. There are often keys on a remote that are not used often or at all. It is not necessary to use the same key all the
time. If the TV is not turned on, you could use almost any key for the dimmer switch.
Waken the receiver by holding a key down for a few seconds until the LED on the receiver comes on, then
release the key. While the LED is still on, you can use the same key as you would use the BUTTON to control the
receiver. While the LED is on, press the key to turn on or turn off the appliance. Or, while the LED is still on, press and
hold the key to increase or decrease the power through ten levels.
In the situation where a particular remote control does not operate the receiver in default mode, you should try
changing to the alternate default mode. The alternate mode is accessed by going into learning mode and then press
and hold the BUTTON until the LED pulses three times.
If you have the TV on, you can have the situation when you are holding down the channel key, to scan
through many channels, the lights will dim at the same time. This can only be avoided by using double digit
addressing in advanced mode when default mode is disabled.
LEARNING MODE
Learning mode allows you to teach the receiver to relate certain keys to a set of features. Unlike default mode
where the key to be used must be learned each time, program mode retains the keys in memory. That means that the
user must remember the functions associated with each key as well. It makes the process of teaching easier if it is
planned out in advance. Additionally, extra functions become available. Gradual Off is an additional feature that is
associated with the Delayed Off function and causes the power to be reduced to off gradually instead of immediately
at the end of the delay period. Single digit addressing allows up to 9 receivers to be operated independently in one
environment. Double digit addressing allows up to 99 receivers to be operated independently in one environment.
To enter learning mode begin by holding down a repeating key (Ch up, Ch down, Volume keys are
examples). The LED on the receiver will blink once, then stay on for a few seconds, then blink continuously. Release
the repeating key now and you have about four seconds while the LED continues to blink to press the BUTTON on
the receiver. The LED will stop blinking and you are now in learning mode. Once in learning mode, you must follow
this sequence of actions for each key you wish to program.

You can exit learning mode by pressing the BUTTON on the receiver, the LED will blink twice to acknowledge that it is
exiting learning mode.
You can return the receiver to default mode by first entering learning mode and then exiting learning mode, the LED
will blink three times to acknowledge that it is resetting to default mode. This is useful if you need to reprogram the
receiver to use a different key for a function, or if you do not wish to use the advanced features.
Single or double digit addressing is selected within learning mode by double-pressing the BUTTON. The LED will
respond by pulsing once for single digit addressing and twice for double digit addressing. Each time the BUTTON is
double-pressed, the receiver will alternate between single and double addressing.
ADVANCED MODE
Advanced mode requires the receiver to be programmed, through learning mode, to associate certain keys on
the remote to the ON/OFF and dim functions.
SIMPLE SINGLE KEY CONTROL WITHOUT ADDRESSING
Choose a function key on the remote which is not used or seldom used. Enter learning mode. Press and hold
the key you chose until the LED on the receiver pulses once or stays on, then release the key. Press the BUTTON on
the receiver, the LED will pulse twice and the receiver will exit learning mode. The receiver is now ready for use. The
key you chose can be pressed to turn on or turn off the appliance. Holding the key down will increase or decrease the
power through ten levels. By choosing different function keys you can control several receivers separately.
COMMAND MODE PROGRAMMING WITH ADDRESSING
Both single and double digit addressing allow you to easily select one receiver, in a room with many
receivers, and control it separately. This is the same as using one remote to control the TV, the VCR and the CD
changer individually. The key to the programming is that you are adding the remote dimmer switches as another
device, just the same as the TV and VCR. You simply choose an, otherwise unused, function key and assign it to the
remote dimmer switches as the command key. You can then use single digit addressing to control up to 9 receivers,
or up to 99 receivers with double digit addressing. Further, you can now use other control keys for power on/off,
power down, and power up. If you wish, you can select to program for power on/off only, and you can program power
on/off and a single key for power down and power up.
To program with addressing begin by planning the keys you will use, and the addressing for each receiver.
Choose the first receiver, press the command key you chose, and enter learning mode. For single digit addressing
press a number key between 1 and 9; this is the address for the receiver. Press the power on/off key; teaching on/off
control. Press CH UP key; teaching power increase control. Press CH DOWN key; teaching power decrease control.
The LED will pulse twice, and the receiver will exit learning mode. Option 1. For no addressing use the on/off control
key for the address key(s).
Option 2. For on/off control only you can press the BUTTON on the receiver immediately after teaching the on/off
control key, and the receiver will exit learning mode before learning the power increase/decrease controls.
Option 3. For on/off control and a single power increase/decrease control, you can either teach the same key for
increase and decrease or press the BUTTON after teaching the increase key only.
GLOSSARY
Refer to the button on the receiver as the BUTTON, and the keys on the remote as KEYs.
Double-pressing the BUTTON means to press the BUTTON twice in rapid succession.
The receiver has an LED which it uses to signal its response to commands or to indicate its readiness. The LED may
pulse (blink or flash) once or several times, may pulse continually, or may stay on. Often, you will have to press a key
or the BUTTON during a short time period while the LED is pulsing or on.
