With Best Wishes Members Safe Hands Foundation 1) ENGINEERING Notes: Safe Hands Foundation 1.1 Indian Institute of Technology – JEE Details: (Tentative) Notification Application Form Submission Entrance Exam Website : : : : November/December December/January April www.iith.ac.in/jee (IIT Hyderabad) The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a common admission test for candidates seeking admission to the B.Tech programme. It is conducted by all the IITs in the month of April every year. This examination is for admission to undergraduate courses at all IITs like Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Mandi, Patna, Rajasthan, Roorkee, Ropar and for IT-BHU Varanasi , ISM Dhanbad. Eligibility: Candidates who have secured 60% (5% relaxation for SC/ST/PD) marks in aggregate in their respective board examination are eligible for the test. With effect from year 2006, a candidate is allowed to take only two attempts to write JEE. Further more explanation, he/she is allowed to write JEE only in the year in which he/she passes the qualifying examination and/or in the following year. Application forms and brochure: Application material can be obtained from the designated branches of Canara Banks as well as by sending a DD as mentioned in the prospectus of that year to the chairman’s address of respective IIT. Candidates can opt for Question Papers either in English or in Hindi. The option should be exercised while filling the application form. The option cannot be changed at any later stages. Exam Pattern: The JEE will be a single objective type examination which will test the comprehension and analytical abilities of students. Questions are to be answered on a specially designed machine-graded sheet using HB pencils only. Incorrect answers will be awarded negative marks. Use of Calculators and Log tables are NOT permitted in JEE. It is situated in picturesque locale of Valiamala in Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala. This unique concept took root in January 2007, when IIST was registered as a Society under the Travancore -Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955. IIST received the approval of the Union Cabinet on 26 April, 2007 and it was formally inaugurated on 14 September 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair. In a little less than a year of its establishment, IIST received the recognition of UGC as a Deemed University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. The Institute has the unique mandate of encouraging and equipping brilliant youngsters from all parts of the country to take up a career as Scientist/Engineer in the Indian Space Research Organisation. IIST functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India. IIST Admission Test (ISAT) Admissions to the undergraduate programmes (B.Tech.) at IIST will be made through an All India Admission Test (ISAT). Brief information about ISAT is given below. B.Tech. Programmes The total number of seats for the undergraduate programmes in IIST for the year 2011 is 156. The branch-wise distribution of seats is as follows: 1. B.Tech. in Physical Sciences: 39 seats Type of Examination The question paper will be of objective type and will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure at least 70% marks in aggregate in their Class X or equivalent examination, while, those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in aggregate in their Class X or equivalent examination. • Minimum Percentage of Marks in 10 + 2 or equivalent examination Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure at least 70% marks in the aggregate in their Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) papers in their QE, while, those belonging to SC,ST and PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in the aggregate in their PCM papers in their QE. admin@safehandsfoundation.org 5 www.safehandsfoundation.org Safe Hands Foundation 1.3 Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITSAT) Details: (Tentative) Notification Application Form Submission Entrance Exam Website : : : : December January/February May/June www.bits-pilani.ac.in Eligibility: For admission to any of the above Integrated First Degree programmes Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Further the candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th examination, with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and should have adequate proficiency in English. Students who are appearing for 12th examination in current year or who have passed 12th Examination in previous year only are eligible to appear in the BITSAT test. Students who have passed 12th examination before that are NOT eligible to appear in BITSAT. Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT. Admissions will be made purely on merit. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in the BITSAT. However, their eligibility for admission is subject to fulfilling the requirement of minimum marks in 12th examination, as mentioned above. The Institute considers only the latest performance through a public examination for admission. If the results of the latest examination are not available within the due date for submission of application, the candidate will not be considered even if there are some earlier performances of 12th class or its equivalent or any higher examination available with him/her. If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in 12th class or its equivalent, only his latest performance is considered, provided this attempt has been for the full component of subjects/courses prescribed. Direct Admission to Board Toppers: In the past, admission process of the Institute always ensured guaranteed admission to all the students who obtained first ranks in their respective board examinations. This has given a very vital input of highly meritorious students from all over India. Continuing this tradition, the Institute will give direct admission to first rank students of all the central and state boards to the programme of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT score. Eligibility criteria for admission under ‘Direct admission to Board toppers’ scheme: To be eligible for admission under the 'Direct admission to Board toppers' scheme, the candidate should be the topper from the science stream having taken Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics subjects in 12th. To identify the topper, the following criteria will be adopted. a) has taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in 12th and b) has obtained the highest aggregate percentage of marks in 12th among all the students who have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in that year from the Board. For the purpose of calculating the aggregate percentage, the aggregate marks should include the marks of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects in addition to other subjects which are required to pass the 12th examination from the Board under consideration. Further, the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics subject marks should be included in the aggregate, irrespective of whether the admin@safehandsfoundation.org 6 www.safehandsfoundation.org Safe Hands Foundation Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects are identified as main/optional/elective in his mark sheet(s). Applicants under the scheme should attach documentary proof in support of their claim, along with the 12th mark sheet and a letter from the Board declaring the candidate as the topper in the specified stream. The Institute will also make efforts to get these data from the different boards on its own. In all cases, the Institute will be guided by the data provided by the concerned Board. In cases where for a particular board, the data available before the deadline is insufficient or inconclusive, the admission committee may decide not to make any offer under the scheme for that specified Board. In all such cases, the decision of the Vice chancellor will be final and binding on the applicants Instructions for Payment: (1) The above are for a normal situation. Wherever a student's programme gets modified or his progress is delayed beyond the maximum permissible, such a student is advised to consult the appropriate authority before registration. (2) The fees and other charges are payable in advance in each semester/term on the notified dates before registration. No withdrawal from a course or courses will entitle a student for refund of fees. (3) Students who go for Practice School II will be charged semester fees and the summer term fees because the practice school is longer than a semester and extends it to summer. (4) Casual students will pay fees prescribed for regular students. (5) Institute caution deposits are refundable only at the time of withdrawal from the Institute. (6) If there are dues outstanding from a student, his grades will be withheld. (7) Students who accumulate mess arrears would be required to pay a prescribed additional advance at the time of next registration. (8) Refunds, if any, will be made through crossed cheques/Bank drafts. How to apply: Online: Interested candidates should register their names for BITSAT by applying in the prescribed application form online. Complete the application form Online at http://www.bitsadmission.com and take the print out of the filled form. The completed application form along with the prescribed fees of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for female candidates) should be sent to Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani – 333 031. Details for payment of fees are available at the website while applying online. By Post: Application form can also be obtained by post from the Admissions Office, BITS, Pilani by sending a request on plain paper giving the candidate’s name and gender with complete postal address, accompanied by a crossed demand draft for Rs. 1100/- (Rs. 600/- for Female candidates). This amount includes the prescribed fees and Rs. 100/- towards postal and handling charges. The form will be sent by Speed Post / Registered Post. Please recheck with the website for the details and amount of DD to be drawn. admin@safehandsfoundation.org 7 www.safehandsfoundation.org Safe Hands Foundation 1.4 All India Engineering Entrance Examinations (AIEEE) Details: (Tentative) Notification Application Form Submission Entrance Exam Online Exam Website : : : : : December January April May (Particular duration of days) www.aieee.nic.in www.cbse.nic.in Scheme of Examination: Entrance examination would consist of two papers i.e. • 1st paper - consisting of three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of equal weightage with objective type questions for BE/B.Tech courses. • 2nd paper - consisting of Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing for B.Architecture and B. Planning. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness. Eligibility Criteria The minimum academic qualification for admission through AIEEE is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination may also appear in AIEEE for consideration of provisional admission. The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at All India Engineering / Architecture Entrance Examination shall be limited to 03(three) uniformly for all the candidates in consecutive years including the year of appearing/passing the 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent qualifying examination Age should be less than 24 years. However, in the case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate only will be taken as authentic. Online-based test All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) goes online from 2011. One lakh students will get the opportunity to appear for the first online AIEEE to be conducted in April 2011 as a pilot run. The exam will not be conducted over internet and it will be a Computer Based Test (CBT). The online exam will be conducted over a period of time. The online option is not compulsory and the first 1 lakh who opt for it will be allowed to take the test online. The rest of the students will have to appear as per the conventional paper-based method. More details regarding online examination pattern, application procedure etc. will be available in the concerned website. Scoring and Negative Marking There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect response one fourth (1/4) of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will be made if no response is indicated for a question in the answer sheet. All objective type questions are required to be answered on specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using ball point pen (black/blue) only. The question papers for the Examination shall be based on a common minimum syllabus drawn from syllabi taught in different State Boards. admin@safehandsfoundation.org 8 www.safehandsfoundation.org Safe Hands Foundation Language of the Question Papers Candidates can opt for question papers either in English or in Hindi. The option has to be exercised while filling Application Form. It cannot be changed later. Examination Centres Cities Tentative list of cities where the examination shall be conducted is given below. Candidates are required to give four options convenient to them. While every effort will be made to allot a Centre in one of the places opted by the candidate, the Board reserves its discretion to allot a Centre other than that of candidate’s choice any where in India. Under no circumstances, the Centre once allotted shall be changed by the Board. Admit Card The Admit Card will be sent by post "Under Certificate of Posting (UPC)" to the candidates (including those who made application online) about four weeks before the conduct of the examination, however, the Board will not be responsible for any consequences that may arise due to loss of admit card in transit. It will be the responsibility of the candidate to contact/write to the Board in case he/she is not in receipt of the Admit Cards by mentioned date in the notification of AIEEE exam of that particular year. In no case the duplicate Admit Card would be issued at the Examination Centres. Candidates scoring above a certain cut off percentage of marks (being different for General, OBC, SC/ST/PH category candidates) to be called for counselling shall be determined at the time of declaration of AIEEE results. A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with 50% average marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or Biology (PCM/PCB) for candidates belonging to SC/ST.
