DECENNIAL CELEBRATIONS - DEPT. OF JOURNALISM
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication celebrated the decennial function of its establishment
on April 27, 2013 in ANU campus. The function was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao. Hon’ble
Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Sri N. Manohar was the Chief Guest. Well-known journalists of Andhra
Pradesh Sri Pothuri Venkateswara Rao, Sri C. Raghavachari, Padmasri Turlapati Kutumba Rao attended as Guests
of Honour. Majority of Alumni of the department which included a large number of journalists, students and faculty from
various campus colleges graced the function. Speaking on this occasion the guests motivated the students to promote
values in journalism. They lauded the profession of journalism and apprised the younger generation of the key role played
by them. Later the Chief Guest, and honorary guests were felicitated. As a mark of recognition of the services rendered
to the department, former Coordinators of the department were also felicitated. Rector of the University Prof.
Y.P.Ramasubbaiah, Principal, College of Arts, Commerce and Law, Prof. M.Madhusudhana Rao, Principal, College of
Sciences, Prof. A.V.Dattatreya Rao also graced the occasion. Later the Alumni Association of the department met and
elected its new body. Interaction among students of various batches and cultural programmes followed.

VISIT OF THE SPEAKER
VISIT OF DIGNITARIES
The following dignitaries visited the university on various
occasions. The university officials felicitated them warmly.
Hon’ble Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly,
Sri Nadendla Manohar, visited the university in connection
with the decennial celebrations of the department. of
Journalism and Mass Communication, on April 27, 2013.
Later he participated in the Interaction session with the
faculty of the university, on various issues like the roles of
higher education and research in the society.
Sri Kandru Kamala, M.L.A., visited the university on 18.4.2013.
ANU GETS 47TH PLACE
Acharya Nagarjuna University achieved the honour
of standing in the 47th place among the universities in the
country. In a survey conducted by the world – renowned
firm Academy Rank. Com which was posted in their
website, ANU was ranked 3rd among universities in
Andhra Pradesh after Osmania and Andhra and 47th out
of 400 universities in India. Again with regard to
accreditation by NAAC of colleges affiliated to the university,
ANU stands in the 2nd place as 27 out of 327 colleges got
accredited whereas Osmania University which stood first
in this regard has 37 out 415 affiliated colleges accredited.
The ranks reflect the qualitative measures taken by the
university to foster teaching and research. Though only 36
years since its inception, the university is not far behind
universities established much earlier. The university has
been making sincere efforts to improve infrastructure, basic
amenities, career counseling etc. to serve students better.
The role of the media in bringing the accomplishments of
the university to the notice of the public is no less significant
in achieving such a distinction.

AMBEDKAR JAYANTHI
106th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF JAGJIVAN RAM
The 106th Birth Anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram
was celebrated in ANU Campus on 05-04-2013. The Chief
Guest was Sri D. Manikya Varaprasad, Minister for Rural
Development, Govt. of A.P. The Vice-Chancellor and other
University officials, staff and students paid tributes to the
great national leader who worked for the progress of the
lower and weaker sections of the society.
The 123 rd Birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was
fittingly celebrated on the University campus jointly by Dr.
Ambedkar Chair for Social Policy and Social Action and
the SC, ST Employees Associations, ANU on 14 April,
2013. The Chief Guest was Dr. Katti Padma Rao, Dalit
activist and Adjunct faculty, Dr. Ambedkar Chair, ANU.
Rector Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, Arts College Principal
Prof. M. Madhusudhana Rao, and other officials were
present in the meeting presided over by the OSD, Prof. Z.
Vishnuvardhan. Dr. S. Murali Mohan of Dr. Ambedkar Chair
organized the celebrations.
BUDDHA POORNIMA
Center for Mahayana Buddhist Studies organized
Buddha Poornima celebrations on 23rd April 2013 in the
department. Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao Vice-Chancellor, ANU,
graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The programme was
started with the prayer of Buddhist monk students from
Myanmar. Prof. M.V. Ramkumar Ratnam, Prof. J.
Sitaramamma, Dr. L. Uday Kumar and other members of
the department were present on the occasion.
MAHATMA PHOOLE’S BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
Mahatma Jyothi Rao Phoole’s 187 th birth
anniversary was celebrated in the campus on April 11,
2013. The Vice-Chancellor, the Rector, the Registrar;
the OSD, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff and students
garlanded his statue and paid tributes to this first social
reformer in modern India who encouraged women’s
education. Prof. M. Koteswara Rao, Dept. of Economics
presided over the function.
INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST
‘DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING’
ANU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences
celebrated International Day Against Drug Abuse and
Illicit Trafficking as is referred to by the State
Government. A seminar on Drug Abuse and its
Implications, organised on 26th June, 2013 on the eve
of the seminar, was chaired by Prof. A. Prameela Rani,
Principal, ANU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
NATIONAL STATISTICS DAY CELEBRATIONS
The Department of Statistics organized National
Statistics Day Celebrations on 29th June 2013 in the
Department in memory of the birth anniversary of Prof.
P.C. Mahalnobis. In the meeting, Prof. A.V. Dattatreya
Rao, Principal, University College of Sciences, ANU, and
Prof. R.R.L. Kantam, the staff, the students and Research
scholars of the department participated in the meeting.

VISITS ABROAD
Prof. L Jayasree, PG. Dept. of Legal Studies and Research,
was appointed as Dean, Faculty of Law, ANU on 13-062013.
Prof. V. Chandra Sekhar Rao, Dept. of Commerce &
Business Administration, visited New Orleans, USA, during
March 13-15, 2013 to attend the Academy of Business
Research Spring Conference. He received the Best Paper
Award for his presentation.
Prof. K. Ratna Shiela Mani, Dept. of English, visited
Singapore to attend the 2 nd Annual International
Conference on Language, Literature & Linguistics
organized by Global Science and Technology Forum during
June 17-18, 2013.
Prof. M.V. Ramkumar Ratnam, Deputy Director of Centre
for Distance Education, CDE ANU, was appointed as I/c
Coordinator of Exams on 20-04-2013.
Prof. N. Veeraiah has been invited as Visiting Professor
for the academic year 2013-14 by Jan Dlugosz University,
Czestochowa, Poland. During this visit Prof. Veeraiah will
do the collaborative research on glass materials with the
faculty of Dept. of Physics and train the research students
in this field.
EMERITUS FELLOWSHIPS
Prof. C.S.N. Raju and Prof. K.
Raja Babu, retired Professors,
Dept. of Economics, ANU, were
awarded the prestigious Emeritus Professorship in
Economics by the University Grants Commission, New
Delhi, for the period 2013-15. They had served the
University for more than three decades in various positions
with dedication.
Dr. Saraswati Raju Iyer, Department of Sociology & Social
Work, compiled a Report on Causes and Consequences
of Imbalanced Child Sex- Ratio in Andhra Pradesh by
Vasavya Mahila Mandali, India, supported by Humanist
Action for Human Rights (HAMU) Norwegian Humanist
Association, Norway, March, 2013.
WORKSHOP ON E-LEARNING
PATENT
A Workshop on introducing e-learning system of
instruction n the classrooms of ANU Colleges was
conducted in the University Campus on April 4, 2013,
chaired by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao.
Representatives from Amrutha University, which would
provide the necessary technology for introducing this
system, participated in the workshop. This system is
proposed to be introduced on an experimental basis from
the next academic year. The Vice-Chancellor stated that
students would be greatly benefited from this type of
instruction. Also present in the meeting were the Rector,
Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, the Registrar, Prof. R.R.L.
Kantam and the OSD Prof. Z. Vishnuvardhan and others.

The present invention relates to a method of
developing a Tumor Model System. The invention deals with
a tumor model system with adhesion deprived cells. This
observation provides a new method for primary detection
of transformation of adhesion-deprived cells and
tumorigenicity. The adhesion-deprived cells are capable of
metastasizing at distant sites and the model system includes
both the tumor formation and metastasis.

ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATIONS
CONDOLENCE MEET
ANU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences
celebrated Annual Day function on 9th May 2013. Prof. K.
Viyyanna Rao, Vice – Chancellor, ANU, presided over the
function while Jagarlamudi Radhakrishna (Krish), film
director, was the chief guest. He said that every person
must dream about achieving something and should strive
hard with discipline and dedication to make the dreams
come true. He emphasized that development of personality
and character are as important as education to succeed in
any field.
Prof. K. V. Rao, Vice Chancellor, in his speech,
motivated the students regarding different opportunities
available to them in the pharmacy field. Prof. A. Prameela
Rani, Principal, ANU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences,
presented a report regarding the college activities in that
academic year. Smt. Jyothi Viyyanna Rao, Prof. Z.
Vishnuvardhan, OSD, gave away the prizes to students
who stood as winners in academic, cultural and sports
competitions.
ANU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences
organized a condolence meet on account of the sad demise
of Dr. G.S. RAJU on 18th June, 2013. Prof. K. Viyyanna
Rao, Vice - Chancellor, Acharya Nagarjuna University
presided over the meeting and in his speech mentioned
the services of Dr. G. S. Raju to Pharmacy and Medical
fields. He also praised Dr. G. S. Raju as an inspiring
personality who upheld human values and relations. Prof.
A. Prameela Rani, Principal of the College, expressed her
gratitude for his role in the establishment of Pharmacy
College in Acharya Nagarjuna University by extending
major financial contributions. Prof. M.V.N. Sharma, former
Registrar, ANU, Prof. G. V. Chalam, Dean, CDC, ANU and
the Coordinator of the Yoga Center, other officials of the
University, Teaching and Non teaching staff and students
of ANU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and College
of Physical Education and Sports participated and
expressed their condolences.
SEMINAR ON ‘DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING’
Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The seminar was chaired
by Prof. A. Prameela Rani, Principal, ANU College of
Pharmaceutical Sciences and the speakers were Dr. K.
Vijay and Mr. K. Phani Kumar, from the same college.
The Principal outlined the recent scenario of drug
abuse and its adverse effects prevailing in society. Dr. K.
Vijay educated students on the need and necessity to
control abuse of drugs and illicit trafficking in the country.
Mr. K. Phani Kumar explained that the drugs like heroin,
cocaine, ampheterin etc. which cause psychological and
physical dependence are prone to be misused. Organizing
motivational interactive sessions give an idea about
modern platforms and update the knowledge of faculty and
students. All the staff members, research scholars and
students actively participated in the event.

NET COACHING CLASSES
YOGA CENTRE
The Dept. of Yoga for Human Excellence, ANU College of
Physical Education & Sports Sciences, conducted a
special Training Course on ‘Sun Yoga’ during 21-23 April
2013. The course was conducted by Sun Yogi Sankhar
Jee of West Bengal, in Dr. G.S. Raju Meditation & Yoga
Centre, ANU.
Coaching classes for UGC-NET examination for
students of SC, ST and Backward Classes were conducted
during May 10- June 6, 2013 in the campus. Around 50
students got enrolled for the classes to whom study material
was distributed free of cost. The classes were coordinated
by Prof. M.V.S. Koteswara Rao. The UGC-NET examination
was conducted in different colleges under the purview of
Acharya Nagarjuna University on June 30, 2013. Prof. D.
Krishna Rao was the Coordinator.
YOGA TRAINING CLASSES
A meeting was organized in the university to mark the
completion of full-time and part time Yoga courses by
students in the Yoga Centre on 24/05/2013. Speaking on
the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao spoke
of the growing awareness in the world of the benefits of
Yoga which is native to India. Yoga teacher Sri K.
Satyamurthy, Physical Education Director Dr. Y. Kishore
and others participated.

NSS ACTIVITIES (April - June 2013)
NSS Summer Special Camping Programme
The NSS Unit of Chalapathi Institute of
Pharmaceutical Sciences (CIPS), Lam, Guntur, organized
a special camping programme for 10 days i.e. from 01.04.13
to 10.04.13, at the adopted village Thullur. As a part of the
programme free medical and dental camp, awareness about
drug abuse, socio-economic survey of each household with
special emphasis on prevalence of disease, illiteracy, clean
and green programme and several other activities were
conducted. Dr. Gopi Nayak, District Medical & Health Officer,
Guntur Dt. Dr.K.Sumanth Kumar, Programme Coordinator,
NSS Cell, ANU, Sri. Anjaneyulu, Chairman, Chalapathi
Educational Institutions, Prof. N. Rama Rao, Principal, CIPS,
several other doctors and village were present the inaugural
programme. The valedictory programme was graced by
Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor.
the winners of elocution, debate, singing, skits, essay writing
etc., on Environment and other allied subjects.
Inauguration of ‘Blood Help Line’ :
In order to cater to the needs of emergency blood
requirement, NSS Cell of ANU has made efforts to bring
out ‘Blood Help Line’. A database containing the names of
the blood donors, their blood group, locality i.e.Guntur &
Prakasham Dts and the contact numbers of the programme
officers concerned was provided online. The online services
in the name of ‘Blood Help Line’ was officially inaugurated
on 24.04.2012 by Sri Nadendla Manohar, Hon’ble Speaker,
A.P. Assembly. The new ‘Blood Help Line’ facility was
provided at ANU NSS website www.nssanu.org.The
programme was graced by Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao and other
University officials.
‘World Health Day’ Celebrations
The NSS Unit of Hindu College of Pharmacy (HCoP),
Guntur, celebrated the World Health Day on 7.4.2013 at the
premises of Bhajarang Jute Mill, Guntur. A free medical
camp was conducted for the employees of Jute Mill. A team
of doctors conducted the medical tests, distributed free
medicines and and apprised the employees of the diseases
like asthma, bronchitis, allergy, diabetes, etc. The
programme was organized under the leadership of Dr. M.
Radha Krishna Murthy, Chairman, HCoP & Former, EC
Member, ANU; Sri Jupudi Ranga Raj, Secretary, HCoP,
Dr.Ranga Rajan, Principal, Sri Seetha Ramaiah, VicePrincipal NSS Programme Officer and others. Dr.K.Sumanth
Kumar, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, ANU, was Chief
Guest.
Cycle Rally on Sensitization about Solar Equipments :
The NSS Cell, ANU, in collaboration with NREDCAP,
Guntur Dt., organized a cycle rally- cum-exhibition of solar
equipment to sensitize the public about the importance of
alternative renewable energy resources at Guntur city on
12th May, 2013. The Cycle Rally was conducted with more
than 200 NSS volunteers of Gowthami Junior College,
Guntur and Research Scholars of ANU. Vice-Chancellor of
ANU Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao and SP (Urban), Guntur, Sri Ake
Ravi Krishna, participated in the cycle rally, conducted from
Navabharath Nagar to Sri Patibandla Seetharamaiah School
ground. An exhibition of solar equipment at Sri Patibandla
Seetharamaiah School grounds was inaugurated by
Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao,Vice-Chancellor, ANU. The programme
‘World Earth Day’
The AP Pollution Control Board-Guntur Region and
Earth Watch, Guntur, organized a programme at Gandhi
Park, GMC, Guntur, to celebrate the World Earth Day on
22 nd April, 2013. Dr.K.Sumanth Kumar, Programme
Coordinator, was the Chief Guest. The programme was
presided over by Sri K.L.P.Kumar, Environment Engineer,
APPCB, Guntur. Dr.K. Gurava Reddy, Scientist Lam Farm;
Smt. Vijaya, HoD of Botany, Hindu College, Guntur; Sri
Thirupathi Reddy, Convener, Earth Watch; and other officials
attended the programme. Several prizes were distributed to

'LARGEST BAREFOOT WALK'
Celebration of World Environment Day
The office of Guinness World Record Limited, London,
had officially communicated and confirmed that Guinness
World Record attempt for ‘Largest Barefoot Walk’ for 1
Kilometer distance, organized on 12.12.2012 with the theme
“Walk for Health and Human Values” with 7,050 participants
organized by NSS Cell, ANU is a new Guinness World
Record. They have sent a Certificate and letter of
communication on 29th June, 2013, which was confirmed
officially and commented as Officially Amazing. The official

a) Cycle Rally for Awareness about Environment:
The AP Pollution Control Board Guntur Region and
NSS Cell, ANU, celebrated the World Environment Day on
5th June at Guntur. A cycle rally was organized by the NSS
volunteers to sensitize the public about the importance of
environment. Placards were displayed during the rally. The
cycle rally commenced with the flag being waved by
Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, ANU, from B.R.
Stadium, Guntur to SC Corporation Hall via Jinnah centre,
Market Centre, Hindu College circle and Collectorate.
b) Celebration of World Environment Day:
The celebration of World Environment Day was
conducted at SC Corporation Hall, Guntur. The theme of
2013 World Environment Day was "Think, Eat and Save".
The main focus was to reduce the food wastage which in
turn would reduce the environment pollution. Guntur district
Collector Sri Suresh Kumar, IAS, the Chief Guest of the
programme, released wall posters and pamphlets related
to environment. Prizes were also distributed to the winners
of different events organized for the specific purpose. The
programme was organized by the AP Pollution Control
Board-Guntur Region with the cooperation of NSS Cell, ANU.
The programme was graced by Sri Srinivasa Rao, Additional
Commissioner, GMC; and several other dignitaries.

was established in ANU Health Centre on 03-04-2013.
Speaking on this occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof.
K.Viyyanna Rao called upon the university community
to avail themselves of the free dental checkup services.
Present were the Dental Medical College Principal Dr.
Krishna Prasad, Health Centre Doctor Jimmy Rani and
others.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS YOUTH FESTIVAL
AT ANU
A Youth Festival for the foreign students studying
in Acharya Nagarjuna University was organized as part of
the ‘At Home Function’ in the Campus on 05-04-2013.
The Festival was organized by Prof. V.S. Chandrasekhara
Rao, Director of the International Students’ Cell, ANU.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V.
Rao described the foreign students as ambassadors
and invited them to observe and do research on Indian
culture and traditions. The international students performed
various cultural events at the end. Present in the function
were the Rector, the Principals of ANU Arts and Science
Colleges.

COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAM TO DAILY WAGE WORKERS
BOOK RELEASE
The University conducted a second computer
training program on Unicode Software (Telugu) to the
Daily wage workers (who are attending computer work
in the University) on 11-05-2013 at Centralized Lab. Sri V.
Manikyala Rao, Joint Registrar and Member of Telugu
Bhasha Vyapthi Sangam, ANU co-ordinated the entire
program. Sri B. Purnanandam, old student of this University,
guided the trainees on behalf of Telugu Bhashodyama
Samakhya, about Unicode software (Telugu) in
implementing Telugu in the University correspondence.
An autobiographical book Atma Katha authored by
Sri Manikyala Rao, Joint Registrar, ANU, was released in
the function conducted to felicitate him on the eve of his
superannuation in May. Present in the meeting were the
Vice-Chancellor, MLC Sri K.S. Lakshmana Rao and others.

INDUCTION MEETINGS
ANU College of Arts, Commerce & Law organized
an Induction Meeting for all the newly admitted students for
the academic year 2013-14 and their parents on 24-06-2013.
The meeting was coordinated by the Principal Prof. M.
Madhusudhana Rao in the Deichmann Auditorium. Booklets
on the evils of Ragging and Eve-teasing were released by
the Vice-Chancellor in the meeting.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao, the Rector
Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, the Registrar Prof. R.R.L.
Kantam, the OSD Prof. Z. Vishnuvarthan and other
University functionaries were present at the meetings. The
programmes were organized in order to introduce the
students and their parents to the values and ideals of the
University.
ANU College of Sciences organized the Induction
Programme for their students similarly on 26-06-2013,
coordinated by the Principal Prof. A.V. Dattatreya Rao.
CAREER GUIDANCE & PLACEMENT CELL
AND CENTRE FOR HRD
P.G. BOARDS OF STUDIES MEETING
A meeting of all the Boards of Studies for various
PG courses was held in Acharya Nagarjuna University
Campus on April 4, 2013. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V.
Rao addressed a common meeting of the Boards regarding
the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) to be introduced
from the academic year 2013-14. The CBCS would be
implemented in semesters II and III, where apart from the
core papers, PG students would have to select Non-Core
Papers from other courses. The Registrar and the Rector
also addressed the gathering.
The Career Guidance & Placement Cell and Centre
for HRD of Acharya Nagarjuna University organized the
following activities for the benefit of students of all ANU
Colleges on 02.04.2013. Around 150 students registered
and attended these workshops :

SOLAR POWER PLANT
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has approved
the installation of a Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 50
KWP in the University Campus. The power generated from
this plant would initially be allotted for the running of the
Administrative Building, Library and Centre for Distance
Education, announced the Registrar, Prof. R.R.L. Kantam.
OBITUARY
Sri M. Latchaiah, Record Asst. (Retd.) died on
02-05-2013.
The University conveyed condolences to the bereaved
family.

NAAC ACCREDITATION FOR COLLEGES
College Day Celebrations
The College Day function of ANU College of
Engineering & Technology was held on Monday, 8th of April,
2013. The chief guest Sri Sekhar Kammula, Cine Director,
while delivering his message, shared his experiences in
USA and inspired the students “Realize your dreams, follow
your passion, friends are your real strength and encourage
those with creativity”. He counseled them saying “First,
Know what you are and then plan your life. Find the career
which makes you happy and then plan your life.”
ANU is among the few universities in the state which
did not lose time in gearing up the affiliated colleges to
seek accreditation by NAAC. The UGC has recently made
it mandatory for colleges also to get accredited which has
implications for granting of funds to the colleges. The Dean,
College Development Council, ANU organized the
Principals’ meetings on 01-5-2013 and 15-6-2013. 49
Principals attended the first meeting while 33 Principals
from various affiliated colleges attended the meeting. The
Principals of the affiliated colleges recognized under 2(f)
and 12(b) participated. In the second meeting i.e. on 156-2013, the Principals of affiliated colleges offering PG
courses, Engineering and Pharmacy participated.
The Vice-Chancellor, the Rector, the Registrar, the
Dean, CDC, the OSD and the Coordinator, IQAC and
others participated in that meeting. The agenda of the
meeting was Assessment and Accreditation. Some issues
discussed in the meeting were Uploading of MHRD data
for the year 2011-12, submission of two page profile of
the colleges, about the letter head of the colleges, website
for every college, ICR formats, steps to be taken to apply
for 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC for those who have not applied
so far, steps to be taken for permanent affiliation,
assessment and accreditation of the colleges, autonomous
colleges status, UGC circulars: NSS as a credit paper,
affiliation regulations, students entitlement, equal
opportunities, choice based credit system and its
implementation, about ISC, steps to be taken on eveteasing and ragging.
The Guest of Honour Vamsi Chaganti, up-coming
Actor said that every step of hard work makes every student
while reach their goals. Vice-Chancellor Prof.K.Viyyanna
Rao presided over the function. Registrar Prof.R. R.L.
Kantam, Dean Dr.P.Siddaiah and Principal Dr.E.Srinivasa
Reddy graced the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the
winners in academic, sports, literary and cultural events
organized in this connection.
Syllabus Design of M.Tech Evening Course
University College of Engineering & Technology is
going to introduce M.Tech. Evening Course from the
academic year 2013. Regarding the course introduction,
Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor, announced in the
Standing Committee to Academic Senate meeting that
syllabus and guidelines were designed by experts in the
particular area. Prof. Y.P.Ramasubbaiah, Rector;
Prof.R.R.L.Kantam, Registrar participated.
ANU CITY CENTRE
An off-Campus City Centre of Acharya Nagarjuna
University, situated in Andhra Christian College of Law, Guntur,
was inaugurated on 05/04/02013 by the Vice-Chancellor Prof.
K.V. Rao. The University aims to expand the services in order
to reach more number of students, and for providing better
accessibility to those coming from distant places. The City
Centre would provide information regarding ANU courses,
issue and receipt of application forms. Present for the inaugural
were the Rector Prof. Y.P. Ramasubbaiah, Registrar Prof.
R.R.L. Kantam, Retd. Prof. Lam Prakasa Rao, the Controller
and the Assistant Controller of Examinations, and others.

PECET-2013
PECET-2013 was conducted by Acharya Nagarjuna
University for both U.G.D.P.Ed and B.P.E.d courses in Physical
Education. Out of 36986 applications 31,438 applications
were received from Men. 16872 for applications B.P.Ed and
14566 for applications U.G. D.P.Ed were received. 5548
applications were received from Women, out of which 2778
were for B.P.Ed and 2770 were for U.G.D.P.Ed.
The Guests of Honour for this function were
Prof.Y.P.RamaSubbaiah, Rector; Prof. R.R.L. Kantam;
Registrar, Prof.Y.Kishore, Director of Physical Education &
Ex-Convener PECET-2012. Prof.M. Syam Babu, Director
of Physical Education, Andhra University; Smt. G. Sara
Sarojini, Director of Physical Education, Padmavathi Mahila
Unverisity were observers of the PECET2013. For these
Tests, all the Lecturers in Physical Education from
Government degree colleges, Aided Colleges and also from
Various Universities in the State of Andhra Pradesh acted
as Testers. The Principal, Dr. P.P.S. Paul Kumar and the
Vice-Principal Dr. P. Johnson were the Convener and CoConvener respectively of PECET-2013.
The tests for men were started from 2nd May 2013
which were inaugurated by Prof.K.Viyyanna Rao, Chairman,
PECET 2013 & Vice-Chancellor, ANU, Prof. Y. P. Rama
Subbaiah, Rector, ANU and Prof.R.R.L.Kantam, Registrar,
ANU. The tests were completed on 12th June 2013, having
been continuously organized for 42 days, 10,774 Men for
B.P.Ed course (63.86%) and 9,222 men for U.G.D.P.Ed.
course (63.31%) have attended. For women Tests were
conducted from 13th June 2013 to 20th June 2013. 1531
candidates for B.P.E.d (55.11%) and 1586 candidates
(57.26%) for U.G.D.P.Ed course participated in the physical
fitness Test. The Physical Fitness Tests consists of for Men
100mts., Long Jump/High Jump, Shot put, 800 mts. for
women 100 mts., Long Jump/High Jump, Shot put, 400
mts. and the following games are conducted for both Men
& Women i.e., Badminton, Ball Badminton, Basketball
Cricket, Football, Hockey, Handball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho,
Tennis & VolleyBall.
SELECTION TRIALS FOR INDIAN UNIVERSITIES
ATHLETICS TEAM TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
WORLD UNIVERSIADE-2013
The Association of Indian Universities has entrusted
the responsibility of conducting the selection trials of Indian
Universities Athletics Team to Acharya Nagarjuna
University, which is a rare opportunity given to Acharya
Nagarjuna University. These selection trials were
successfully conducted on 05th June, 2013 at University
Campus. Nineteen Athletes were selected and the
coaching camp was conducted by ANU.
Organisation of Inter-University Tournaments
The Association of Indian Universities has entrusted
the responsibility of conducting the following major Inter University Tournaments to Acharya Nagarjuna University for
the academic year 2013-14.

24 Annual General Meeting - 2013
of Inter-University Sports Board of India

Acharya Nagarjuna University hosted the 24th Annual
General Meeting of Sports Board of Association of Indian
Universities on 24th & 25th May, 2013. This is the second
time that ANU has conducted this meeting after 2006. In
Andhra Pradesh, ANU is the first university to host the AIU
meeting. In this meeting, the annual calendar of National
University Games 2013-14 was finalized. Many issues
related to sports activities were discussed and decisions
were taken by the Committee members.

Vice-Chancellor of ANU, presided over the meeting. The
other Guests of Honour were Dr.Gurdeep Singh, Deputy
Secretary (Sports) of AIU, Prof.Dalel Singh Chauhan,
Arjuna Awardee in Volleyball Prof.Y.P. Ramasubbaiah,
Rector,

Principal, College of Physical Education & Sports Sciences.
About 50 Directors of Physical Education and experts in the
field of Physical Education and sports from all over India
attended this meeting.
NSNIS Six weeks certificate course – 2013
Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala,
allotted an extension center to Acharya Nagarjuna University
for the conduct of six weeks certificate course in six games
i.e., Athletics, Basketball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Softball &
Volleyball at our campus from 17th May to 26th June, 2013.
These courses were conducted for the Second time in this
ADVENTURE TRAINING PROGRAMME
Bachelor of Physical Education students, Research scholars and Staff members attended a Trekking Training Program at Rajasthan State Bharath Scouts & Guides State Training & Adventure Centre, Mount Abu, Rajasthan from 21st to
26th April 2013. 58 Male, 31 female students, 02 research Scholars and 02 Staff members attended the adventure training
program funded by UGC. The Program covered trekking to Shanti Shikhar, Balie’s walk, Upper Kodra dam, Crag Point,
caving, Night Trekking, Rock climbing. Rappelling, Boating, Horse Riding, Gun Shooting, Archery, Rope Climbing, Tunnel
caving, Balance beam walk, camp fire and how to overcome different kind of obstacles etc.

DEPARTMENT OF LIFELONG LEARNING
Mrs. Sunila Rani showed how students can keep their
mind and body active through Pranic Healing, Mr. V.
Ankineedu Prasad explained to the students how to create
energy and retain good health through super brain yoga.
All the students, staff and the Principal of the college attended
and tried to practice Pranic Healing during the programme.
Orientation Programme on PRANIC HEALING
The Department of Lifelong Learning organised an
Orientation programme on PRANIC HEALING on 3rd April
2013 in the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in ANU
Campus. Mrs. C. Sunila Rani and Mr. V. Ankineedu Prasad,
members of World Pranic Healing Association of Guntur,
were the invited resource persons for the programme. The
Programme was coordinated by Prof. P. Syama Thrimurthy,
Head of the Department of Lifelong Learning with the
support of Dr. M.V. Ramana and with the cooperation of
College of Pharmaceutical Sciences of ANU.
Training Programme for the Physically Challenged
Orphan Children in WEALTH FROM WASTE
The Department of Lifelong Learning organized a
week long Training Programme to the Physically Challenged
orphans in Lima Dumb and Deaf School, Guntur, in Wealth
from Waste on 24 th April 2013, The Programme was
coordinated by Prof. P. Syama Thrimurthy with the support
of Dr. M.V. Ramana, Mrs. P. Lakshmi was the Resource
person for the Training Programme. Mrs. Lakshmi
demonstrated to the Dumb and Deaf children how to make
use of throw away things into very useful articles. Using
sponge, rubber bands, cardboards, cloth, paper, straws, etc.
they were trained to prepare toys, pen stands, greeting cards,
flowers etc. Later they were allowed to paint them trying to
bring out their creativity. More than 27 children along with
their parents made use of this training programme.
