DuPont™Abcite® 500 ES
Technical Information
Product Description
Abcite® 500 ES is a thermoplastic powder coating that provides excellent corrosion and UV protection without the need
for a primer. Abcite® 500 ES is based on an ethylene acid copolymer.
Chemical Resistance
Abcite® 500 ES has an excellent resistance to chemical attacks by both acids and alkalis. A specific chemical
resistance test is recommended before any application. Further detailed chemical resistance information may be
obtained from DuPont.
Typcial Applications
Battery boxes, light poles, signs posts, street and garden furniture, balustrades, railings and trellis of stairways, fencing
panels, supports for climbing plants, bike racks that require a very good chemical protection are already successfully
coated with Abcite® 500 ES.
Thanks to its high chemical polarity Abcite® 500 ES offers an excellent adhesion with thermosetting topcoats. Therefore,
once applied on battery boxes, the outside can be painted in various colors.
Transportation and Storage
Agglomerates may be formed during transportation and storage; this reversible phenomenon is not a sign of poor quality
but may happen in case of specific environmental conditions causing compaction. The agglomerates can easily be
brought back to their original form through sieving.
For Safety, Health, storage and handling recommendations, see DuPont Metal Coating summary guidelines.

Test conditions:
Tests were performed using 150x70x1.5 mm steel panels coated by the fluidised bed process (thickness of 400-600 µm) or
injected samples. The results may vary for other substrate types, color or thickness. Unless otherwise stated, all coating
properties data relate to Abcite® 500 Neutral. A specific chemical resistance test is recommended before any industrial
application. Food contact certificates are available upon request.
