It has a wide useful temperature range retaining its tough characteristics to below -50ºC whilst at the other extreme it displays a very respectable deflection temperature of 137ºC at 1.8 MPa. MEGA-GARD® Polycarbonates are characterized by an excellent combination of toughness, transparency, heat and flame resistance and dimensional stability. The insulating and other electrical characteristics of OMEGA-GARD ® Polycarbonate is excellent and almost unchanged by temperature and humidity conditions. MAIN ADVANTAGES OF OMEGA-GARD ® POLYCARBONATE SHEET, ROD AND TUBE • Light transmission at 87% - colour- clear • Excellent impact strength (250 x stronger than standard glass on impact, 30 x that of acrylic) • Excellent sound attenuation and thermal insulation • Excellent electrical insulation/ dielectric properties • Very ductile • Good dimensional stability • Food safe • Self-extinguishing (self-ignition temperature 1070°C) WEAKNESSES OF OMEGA-GARD ® POLYCARBONATE SHEET, ROD AND TUBE • It has no self lubricating power and is attacked by oil and grease • Not resistant to hydrocarbons • Absorbs moisture and can need drying before forming APPLICATIONS Safety and vandal resistant glazing Skylights, Outdoor signs Interior aircraft parts and glazing Machine guards for noise reduction and safety screens Banking, Service station, Public building screens Safety face shields, RV Windshields, safety helmets MAR RESISTANT SHEET OMEGA-GARD ® MR10 OMEGA-GARD ® MR10 polycarbonate sheet is a transparent UV and mar resistant glazing material for flat applications only. The intrinsic properties of OMEGAGARD ® MR10 combined with its dual hard coated surface provide: • High impact strength and forced entry protection • Graffiti resistance • Excellent all weather performance • Unique 10 year warranty against breakage and 5 year warranty against yellowing, loss of light transmission and coating failure. Due to its Mar resistant coating, OMEGA-GARD ® MR10 polycarbonate sheet cannot be cold formed or heat formed. It is intended for flat applications only. Tested for abrasion resistance, OMEGA-GARD ® MR10 Polycarbonate exhibits significantly less hazing than uncoated polycarbonate sheet. The unique coating also provides immunity to many chemicals. Surface contact tests with a wide range of chemicals have proven to have no effect on impact resistance during falling dart testing, proving the excellent fit for this product in industrial or aggressive environments. In applications where the product will come into contact with aggressive chemicals, specific testing of the material is always advised. For some applications the ripple orientation may play an important part in the optical performance of the sheet. This orientation is marked with a continuous ribbon applied to the sheet masking. APPLICATIONS • Injection moulded polycarbonate components in the Electrical /Electronics: connectors face plates; Terminal blocks; telephone finger wheels; Meter covers; business machine housings; computer disk packs; storage modules. • Typical Appliance Uses: Power tool housings; Vacuum cleaner impellers and housings, Grills for fans and air conditioners; Bowls and cutting wheels for food processors. • Other Applications: Automotive instrument panels; indoor and outdoor lighting diffusers; exit signs; Safety helmets; microwave ware; Food service ware; Safety and prescription eyewear; kidney dialysers, blood oxygenators; solar cell covers; Boat hatch covers; door and window hardware. • Blow Moulded Polycarbonate Products: Returnable water and milk bottles; baby bottles; lighting globes. • Foam Moulded Polycarbonate Parts: Housings for computer terminals and copying machines; Bus seats; Roofs for recreational vehicles. • Profile Extruded Products: Patio door thresholds; Shelf rails; Highway delineator guide posts; Automotive bright trim; fluorescent lighting luminaries. • Clear Extruded Sheet (Monolithic or Laminated): Safety and vandal resistant windows in schools; Self-service gas stations; banks; public buildings; trains; armored cars. ABRASION RESISTANT SHEET OMEGA-GARD ® AR 10 OMEGA-GARD ® AR10 polycarbonate abrasion resistant has a single hard coat surface in both sides. However, for buildings in hot climates or with north facing aspects, it is available in translucent colours and opal white. It is essentially opaque to all wave lengths below 385 nanometres. This useful shielding property can prevent discolouration of sensitive materials placed under or behind it. Bronze, grey and opal white coloured polycarbonate sheet significantly reduce solar heat gain, cuts down the brightness of sunlight to a pleasant level, helping to maintain comfortable interior building temperatures. Silicone sealants and neoprene or EPDM gaskets are generally recommended for use with OMEGA ® GARD polycarbonate sheet. It is strongly advised that when using glazing compounds or cleaning media to check compatibility before use. OMEGA-GARD ® Polycarbonate sheet can be cut and sawn easily and accurately using standard woodworking equipment. The sheet must always be securely clamped to avoid undesirable vibration and rough cut edges. The protective masking should be left on the sheet to prevent scratching and other surface damage. OMEGA-GARD ® Polycarbonate sheet can be easily cold formed into gentle curves of 175 times the sheet thickness. It can also be cold line bent under an angle of maximum of 90° using hydraulic workshop equipment. THERMAL EXPANSION ALLOWANCE Since OMEGA-GARD® polycarbonate sheet has a large linear thermal coefficient of expansion than that of the glazing profiles commonly used; care should be taken to allow free expansion of the sheet to avoid bowing. In general, thermal expansion of the sheet is approximately 3mm per linear metre. WET GLAZING – OMEGA-GARD® polycarbonate sheet can be glazed using normal standard metal or window frames in combination with glazing tapes and elastomeric glazing compounds e.g. silicone sealant.
