Regulations
From July 1, 2007 the WEEE Directive comes into force in the UK. Under the regulations Aktiva
Systems Ltd are legally responsible for the collection and recycling of Aktiva light fittings classified
as gas discharge lamped and sold into the UK market. This class of light fitting covers metal halide
and fluorescent lamped fittings.
In order to adhere to these regulations Aktiva has joined WeeeCare a WEEE compliance scheme.
WeeeCare will assume collection and recycling duties on Aktiva’s behalf as and when the relevant
fittings reach end of life.
A fixed re-cycling charge will have to be imposed to recover the WEEE Regulation costs from July
1. In line with other fitting and lamp manufacturers and to ensure transparency this charge will be
shown separately on our invoices. The charge is .30/light fitting where the fitting is defined as a
gas discharge lamped fitting (ie- fluorescent and metal halide lamps). No other Aktiva light fittings
are affected.
Lamp manufacturers Osram, Philips and Sylvania have advised us that they will be charging
.15/lamp. We are obliged to pass this charge on to our customers also.
We will do our best to ensure that our customers are provided with all necessary backup and
information regarding the scheme. The crossed-out wheeled-bin symbol and Producer Identification
Mark will appear on Aktiva product identification labels of relevant fluorescent and metal halide
light fittings.
Collection free of charge of the relevant end-of-life Aktiva light fittings will be effected upon
informing WeeeCare at the phone number below. Recovery of end-of-life lamps is the responsibility
of the appropriate manufacturer’s compliance scheme. Details are provided on the following
