DuPont™ ISCEON® REFRIGERANTS CASE HISTORY All Weather Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Ltd. Background Results Jason Wight, HVAC contractor/owner of All Weather Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Ltd., had learned that new non-ozone depleting refrigerants were commercially available to retrofit most existing refrigeration equipment. “I was interested in a refrigerant that would be relatively easy to use, required no modification to the equipment, and allowed me to continue using mineral oil.” said Wight. Jason consulted with Refrigerative Supply Limited, his local wholesaler. On the advice of Refrigerative Supply representatives Len Montague and Steve Hyde a recommendation was made to consider DuPont™ ISCEON® brand refrigerants. Upon researching the alternatives, Jason determined DuPont™ ISCEON® refrigerants have the properties he required, providing a versatile, quick switch replacement refrigerant. Jason stated, “I was pleased with the conversion, this was my first retrofit with DuPont™ ISCEON® refrigerants and it was an easy conversion. No mechanical changes to the equipment were necessary, and no oil change was required. The retrofit guidelines and technical literature available on the DuPont™ ISCEON® website were extremely helpful. DuPont™ ISCEON® MO79 provided a straight forward, simple, and easy to use retrofit refrigerant choice for the job.” Project Details Jason had been contacted by his customer, a manufacturer of fresh baked, frozen bakery products for foodservice channels in Canada, to service existing blast freezers and holding freezers within their facility. It is critical that a bakery blast freezer maintain a constant temperature in each cooling unit once the freshly baked goods have been prepared. Jason and the customer share common concerns for the environment. Upon discussing the benefits of switching to non-ozone depleting refrigerants with management, the bakery manufacturer readily agreed to the retrofit. Jason chose DuPont™ ISCEON® MO79, a suitable match to replace HP80 (R-402A) in their refrigeration systems. DuPont™ ISCEON® MO79 is a non-ozone depleting replacement for “R-502 type” HCFC-containing blends, e.g., HP80 (R-402A), HP81 (R-402B), R-408A, and R-502, primarily used in low-temperature refrigeration systems. DuPont™ ISCEON® MO79 is compatible with traditional and new lubricants and has a significantly lower operating discharge temperature, eliminating the need for injection cooling. Wight performed retrofits on two blast freezers; -20°C & -30°C, a spiral blast freezer-35°C, and a holding freezer -20°C. Conclusion Feedback from the customer indicated it was an easy operation, and has been a cost effective switch. There were no disruptions to manufacturing operations during the conversion and the equipment continues to run smoothly since the retrofit was performed in 2008. 1.877.683.3566 refrigerants.dupont.com DuPont Refrigerants.
