Learn Smart Assignment (Smart Book)
Located in Connect in your Assignment List
When you first click the LS assignment Smart Book will load and it is possible that you may get
the below message. If you do then just click on the allow button.
When the below screen appears-Click Learn to start
In the upper left – Click the Icon
Once you click the ICON the below screen will appear-click assignments
Click on the chapter you wish to work in.
At the bottom of the screen is a picture of a person-This person is your coach throughout the
assignment
Follow the directions of the Coach
Start: Click the read button at the bottom left

The following screen will appear when you click READ
Notice to the right: The yellow button-Use this button to go forward to the page that you are
required to read. Using this button will skip pages that you are not required to read for this
assignment. You have to move your cursor over to the right to make the yellow button to appear
If can use the buttons at the bottom middle to move forward then you must continue to click until
you get to a highlighted page in yellow.
Notice that when I use the yellow right button the system will immediately go to the pages that
are highlighted in yellow that are required for us to read for this chapter assignment

Once you have read the highlighted items in yellow, then you are ready to Practice
Click the Practice button on the bottom left and the below screen would appear
You are now ready to answers questions that will only pertain to the material you just read on
page 13. For this example I picked the third option and then will click I KNOW IT
The below screen will appear and will state if you are right or wrong.
In this case we were right. Click OK
Notice at the bottom the system tells you have many questions are left.
In the below case we were wrong. Click OK
The system will come back around later to ask you the same question again.

When you have correctly answered all of the questions recording page 13, the Coach will come
back on and advise you.
At this point the Coach gives you a decision to stop and then go forward to the next page that is
highlighted in yellow to read.
THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
The Coach will advise you that If you decide to continue to go forward without going back to
read, the next set of questions will be pertaining to items you have not read about.
YOU SHOULD NOT DO THIS unless you have already read the complete chapter.
Any time that you are not sure about the material you can click the read button
Notice that the Coach has appeared and indicated that I have finished answering questions for
page 13 and advises me to stop and read the next page that is highlighted in yellow.
We have only 17 more questions left for the chapter
You may get a screen that tells you that you have completed the present task and ask if you
would like to do more probes. I suggest not doing so and moving on in the assignment and go to
the next page to read that is required. Notice that I have the Coach which is advising me that I
have completed this portion.
When you click READ in the bottom left the next screen will appear
Notice that everything that you read on page 13 has now become green.
This indicates you have completed this portion of the assignment and ready to go to the next page.

Once you click the yellow button the system will take you to the next page to read which the
items should be in yellow.

If I click Leave Assignment, you will return to the other assignments in Connect
Notice below the system will advise you that you are in progress and an estimated time it might
take to finish the assignment. (This does not mean you have 30 minutes to complete the
assignment, this means that on average it should take about 30 minutes to complete the
assignment)
Under Assignments – See Chapter 1 – Notice that it indicates I have completed 100 % of the
questions for that chapter. The system will advise you of what % you are completed.

All chapters will be listed
Click Topic Scores
When viewing the assignment list and I have completed LS the list will indicate complete
When I click Performance I also will see the date I started and the date I completed and that I
received 20 points.
In this example below I have only completed 34 % and still have 17 questions left

Notice that the LS shows in progress. The 13 minutes is just an average of time a student should
have to spend to finish the assignment. Some 10 minutes, others 30 minutes. Ignore the NA
The performance report will not indicate a completed assignment with a grade until we actually
complete the assignment or until the due date. If I failed to complete this assignment by the due
date and the assignment is worth 20 points and the system indicates that we have only completed
34 %, then my points for Chapter 1 LS would be 6.8 points (20 x .34 %)
