Major achievements of King George’s Medical University from April 2014 to present • Permission to increase the number of seats for MBBS course from 185 to 250 for the academic session 2015-2016. • First organ transplant performed under King George’s Medical University. First time in the State, King George’s Medical University has introduced the examination procedure based on MCQ pattern for overall assessment of the medical students. Medical facilities by the medical university were provided in Malihabad liquor tragedy, Raebareli Rail accident and to Nepal Earthquake victims. Complete medical services were provided to the patients injured in cracker factory blast at Lucknow District and to seriously injured pilgrims from Odissha in Sitapur road accident. For the education and reading of medical students, newer books and online scientific journals worth almost Rs.5 Crores were purchased. Online subscription of journals was provided to medical students and faculty members for their education and convenience. The availability of various books of medical field was assured in the Central Library of the University for reading by the medical students. Modern medical treatment methods were incorporated in the course of medical students 12 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • in view of the future prospects of the medical students studying in the University. In the premises of medical university, Centre for Excellence for Midwifery training and 100 bedded M.C.H. wing is being constructed while demolishing time- worn employee quarters behind Queen Mary Hospital and the employees were allotted new employee quarters. Moreover, construction of a separate building for Child Health Care Institute is also proposed. King George’s Medical University has proposed to establish Regional Institute of Paramedical Sciences for training in various types of paramedical courses. Efforts are being made at war level by the medical university for establishment of the same and to coordinate with Central Government and State Government. KGMU Centre for Skill Development is proposed at the second floor of Scientific Convention Centre for skill development of nurses and paramedical staff. New modern teaching block (Kalam Centre) with modern equipments and newer facilities is ready. Classes for medical students, nursing students and paramedical students are being conducted here. It has 23 lecture rooms with a seating capacity of 60 to 600. To promote research in the University, 5 medical teachers upto the age of 35 years and 3 medical teachers in age group 35- 40 years were permitted to avail financial assistance from research cell for attending scientific presentation. conference, seminar and workshop etc. Tireless efforts of the University resulted in the permission for same pay scale and allowances for medical teachers as SGPGI. For quick treatment of the patients visiting the University, the University administration showed foresight and appointed Medical Superintendent and Deputy Medical Superintendent in various units. The online registration process for patients also demonstrates the sensitivity of University administration towards the patients. Expansion of BPL counters to ensure proper treatment facilities to patients living below poverty line and those with incurable disease. The registration process for the patients visiting medical university for treatment has been done online. Establishment of first court of the University. Recommendation to permit grant under 12 B to King George’s Medical University by UGC. For the benefit of patients and for training of medical students , attendance of medical teachers was made compulsory in the trauma centre casualty . 20 guest lecturers from India and abroad were invited by the University under faculty guest lecture and journal club. KGMU was made nodal centre in Uttar Pradesh for world level research by UNESCO. 13
