National Fire Academy Off-Campus Deliveries What Is It? The Off-Campus Delivery Program offers the same 1-2 week courses normally taught at the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy facility located in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The NFA’s Training Resources and Data Exchange (TRADE) which operates within the 10 Federal Government Regions, provides the structure through which regional deliveries are offered. The TRADE network comprises the training and education administrators of the 50 state fire training systems, and more than 150 of the largest local fire departments throughout the United States. National Fire Academy Off-Campus Deliveries Printed and designed by: MU Extension Fire and Rescue Training Institute Students who participate in Off-Campus Deliveries have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and information with colleagues from throughout their region in a informal setting outside the classroom. This program, along with other resources of the National Fire Academy, insure a totally successful learning experience while keeping the time commitment and costs, to an absolute minimum. Who Is Eligible? All fire and rescue service personnel who meet the established student selection criteria for the course for which they are interested are eligible to apply. 2009-10 Hazardous Materials Incident Management Ellisville, MO August 3-8, 2009 North Kansas City, MO February 22-27, 2010 National Fire Academy Off-Campus Deliveries Hazardous Materials Incident Management | Course Description | This 6-day program focuses on the duties and responsibilities of the emergency response personnel who will assume the Incident Command role in hazardous materials emergencies above the initial response. Based on the current requirements of Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 1910.120 (29 CFR 1910) and the applicable national standards, the program follows 3 phases of an incident: pre-planning, incident operations, and post-incident responsibilities. Topics include negligence and liability, planning, Incident Command System/Emergency Operations Center (EOC) interface, training requirements, and emergency response plans. Evaluation of the student’s knowledge of the subject is attained through written tests and graded scenarios. Evening classes and projects are required. | Class Size | Maximum of 25 students, Minimum of 15 students. | Length of Class | 1 week (6 full days of instruction) with an 8:00 A.M. start time. | Registration Deadline | MU FRTI must receive completed registrations no later than: Ellisville - July 3, 2009 North Kansas City - January 22, 2010 | Student Selection Criteria | •Emergency response personnel above the initial response level who may be called upon to assume the duties of the Incident Commander at hazardous materials incidents as described in 29 CFR 1910. • Safety officers as described in 29 CFR 1910.* • Departmental training officers.* •Emergency management personnel who would interface with emergency response personnel through EOC operations at a hazardous materials incident. *W hile safety officers and training officers meet the acceptable criteria for this program, the program is not designed for technician-level personnel. | Prerequisites | •Applicants must be certified by their departments as operations-level personnel acting at the Incident Command level as per 29 CFR 1910 (stated above).
