BMSIt requires of learners to demonstrate the ability to monitor, report and advise on
the application of health and safety principles regarding fire protection systems
and the prevention of fires in a work place.

1. Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the definition of fire, principles and
chemistry of combustion
Provide clear understanding and practical knowledge of the explanation of the
definition of fire and the fire triangle, the chemistry of combustion and fire ignition
points.
2. Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the main causes of fire, fire spread and
the principles of heat transmission
The learner will receive clear understanding of the three different processes of
heat transmission, main causes of fire, different sources of ignition and main
causes of fire spread.
3. Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the effects of fire and the different
methods of fire spread control in the workplace
Provide clear understanding and practical knowledge of the structural and possible
secondary effects of fire and different techniques of fire-spread control.
4. Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the classification of fires, the
appliances to control fires and methods of detection
The learner will have clear understanding and practical knowledge of the different
classes of fire, different types of appliances used to control fires and their features
of operation, methods to detect fires and features of operation.

The delegate that attends this course must:
- Read and Write in English;
- Communication at NQF Level 3;
- Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 3;
- The learner will be able to demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the
definition of fire, principles and chemistry of combustion;
- Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the main causes of fire, fire spread
and the principles of heat transmission.
