Both meetings will include a meal, entertainment and door prizes! MAIL-IN BALLOT AOPFN has been developing a Land Code since 2013, which is separate from the “Land Claim”. The Land Code is an opportunity to get out of the Indian Act regarding lands management. It gives AOPFN the authority to develop land laws and environmental protection. It will also include developing an internal lands registry system. Benefits will include: land within AOPFN will remain First Nation land, quicker land registry transfers and the right to legislate and create new laws that will be enforceable. Increased opportunity for economic development and a better ability to add lands to the First Nation. VOTE DATE LAND CODE RATIFICATION Advance poll Saturday, August 29, 2015 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Elders Lodge 28 Chigibig Inamo, Pikwakanagan Vote Day Saturday, September 26, 2015 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Makwa Centre 83 Kagagimin Inamo, Pikwakanagan For a mail-in ballot please send an email with your name, registry number and current address to: assistant.lem@pikwakanagan.ca or call us at 613-625-2800 ext. 231. The First Nations Lands Management Act requires the Land Code to be ratified. This means a majority support is required by all eligible voting members. For example, out of approximately 1800 eligible voters–we require approximately 550 yes votes to accept the Land Code. This is an historic opportunity to have control of AOPFN land decisions. Please contact us if you have any questions or to receive a copy of the Land Code, the First Nations Lands Management Act or the Individual Agreement. MEEGWETCH!
