My Career Plan 2 – Teachers Delivery Notes & Assessment Plan:
Assessment Schedules – these are in 2 formats: Combined and by individual units. This seems to be required because NZQA
Moderators are failing to comprehend that units can be taught together. We suggest that when you are asked for moderation of
any of the 3 units, send in the single AS for that unit rather than the combined one.
1.
Unit Standard Information:
7121 v4 Demonstrate skills to search, access, and select information.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify the purpose and scope of a search for information; gather and select
information; and review the processes undertaken to search, access, and select information.
Outcome

Investigate career options.
2.
Explore areas of learning that support identified career options.
3.
Reflect on achievability of selected career options.
My Career Plan 2 – Assessment Schedule & Notes Version 6 - 2013.
2.
Assessment Conditions:
As each user will have different assessment conditions for their learners, there is a space provided on the back cover of the
workbook (Date due and Other Instructions) for learners to record the specific assessment conditions decided on by their teacher.
For example, written answers or verbal, evidence collected of resources used etc.
3.
Task Notes
Task 1 (p2) – students need to complete enough of the chart to represent a personal profile from which they can identify options to
explore. This is a qualitative decision rather than quantitative.
Task 5 (p13) requires students to record the sources they use when doing Task 3 and Task 6.
Task 5 assesses US10781 ER2.2 which requires 4 different types of sources of information (used in Task 3). This evidence is
contained in the Task 3 column.
Task 7 assesses US7121 ER2.1 which require 3 different types of sources of information (used in Task 6). This evidence is
contained in the Task 6 column.
Task 6a (p15) Spaces with numbers indicate minimum examples required (bolded numbers), and maximum required (last
number). (e.g. 1,2,3,4 = min 2, max 4 examples).
4.
Outcome & Evidence Requirement (ER) Identification
Learners should be told that at any time they can clearly identify the Unit Number, Outcome & Evidence Requirement by referring
to the back page chart. For example, if they are working on Task 1, then they are working on Unit 10781 v3 Outcome 1 ER 1.1.

Evidence
Judgement - competency is shown when…
Information relevant to own future directions
decision making is gathered for a personal profile.
Profile must include personal qualities, work
interests, interests and skills, educational and/or
other achievements, paid and/or unpaid work
experience, education and/or training experiences,
as relevant for the learner.
Own preferences are identified in terms of interests
(p4), needs and wants (p3). Preferences include
but are not limited to – security, mobility, location,
income, relationships, hobbies and skills.
The personal profile material on pp2-8 is completed.
Options identified for own future directions are
compatible with profile. They may include, but are
not limited to: employment, current & anticipated
paid and unpaid work, current & anticipated nonwork activities & responsibilities, education and
training opportunities.
Exploration takes into consideration, as applicable:
 Employment opportunities (are there any jobs in
this field where I live?)
 education and training opportunities (can I get
trained – am I capable of doing the training?)
 current and anticipated paid and unpaid work
(will either of these impact on pursuing the
option?)
 current and anticipated non-work activities and
responsibilities (my Dad is very ill and I need to
help care for him)
Learning areas are described in terms of supporting
career options for three careers. e.g. Professional
Cookery at Central Polytechnic = chef
At least three future options are listed that match the student’s
profile.
(pp10-12)
My Career Plan 2 – Assessment Schedule & Notes Version 6 - 2013.
Preferences are identified by ticks in the columns (p3 Preferred, Don't Mind, Not Preferred; p4 – High Interest, Some
Interest, No Interest)
Ticks (or absence of as indicated by a zero in the total
column) indicate matching process undertaken.
Spaces on charts completed as applicable.
Courses and/or training appropriate for each of three chosen
careers are described in Task 3: Where can I learn the skills
needed to make this option a reality?

Options are prioritised and justified on the basis of
gathered information.
Options are each considered and justified decision regarding
their priority is stated below each option exploration.
Overall process of exploration draws upon at least
three different types of sources of career
information, including, but not limited to: websites,
guidance personnel, computer database, leaflets,
promotional material, printed media, institutions &
government agencies.
The purpose for an information search is identified
in terms of the end use of the information e.g. to
see if I am suited to a career in mechanical
engineering
At least three different types of sources are used. Selection
from a range of sources is desirable but not required when
information is limited.
The scope of the information search is identified in
terms of its purpose and for the range of information
required.
e.g. what practical skills will be developed on the
course? I will need to check out university as well
as polytechnic courses.
At least three different types of sources to be
identified, which may include, but are not limited to:
 own knowledge (e.g. existing knowledge),
 people (e.g. family, employers, career
advisers),
 Information Technology (e.g. internet, CD
Rom),
 printed material (e.g. brochures,
prospectuses, advertising)
Learning outcomes from each learning area are
described. These may include but are not limited to
– competencies, transferable skills, knowledge,
attitudes and/or values.
e.g. transferable skills – First Aid and
communication skills.
Describes scope (extent) of search - may include but not
limited to:
 what skills/attitudes/values will be developed;
 course content;
 possible positive outcomes;
 qualifications/career options course leads to.
At least one aspect relating to purpose must be identified.
At least three different types of intended sources are circled

A recognised qualification is identified for each of
the career options. This may include but is not
limited to a National Certificate, Diploma or Degree.
e.g. National Certificate in Welding
At least one qualification for each career option is stated
Information is gathered from at least three different
types of sources and referenced.
e.g. job description for engineer from the Career
Services website (printout provided)
Sources may include but are not limited to –
websites, computer database, leaflets, industry,
printed media, institutions & government agencies,
guidance personnel.
Three different types of sources of information are used and
referenced during the exploration of career information. These
are identified specifically in the Task 6 column on p13.
Information selected is:
 evaluated as sufficient and relevant to the
options in terms of producing a plan for future
directions (10781)
 relevant to the purpose and scope (p14) (7121
1.1).
Physical evidence of accessing these sources of information
is shown. Evidence may include - but is not limited to:
 copies of information;
 lists of references to resources;
 printed copies of web pages;
 audio/video tapes;
 letters of confirmation
Information selected (p13) is:
 sufficient in terms of producing a plan for future directions.
(See rating on p12. A learner rating of “poor” would not
satisfy the requirements of this ER)(10781)
 relevant to the purpose as identified in 7121 1.1 ) and
scope (as identified in 7121 1.2)
 accurate
 current (less than 12 months old)
 explained for each source
At least 2 statements are made that identify the success of the
search with respect to its intended purpose as stated in 1.1
e.g. Source: cousin. Reason for selection: he works
at Browns Engineering (engineer)
Review describes the extent to which the processes
undertaken and the information gathered met the
purpose and scope (p14) of the search.
e.g. The information gathered tells me more about a
nursing degree but I need to find out more
information about the costs involved before I can
make a decision.
Relationship for each of at least three career options is
Relationship between career options and own
preferences is identified for at least three career

A pathway for each of three career options, and the
commitment that would be involved are investigated
in terms of approximate financial costs and time
For each of three career options:
 a pathway flowchart is completed (at least 3 boxes,
including the one containing the name of the career
option), and
 financial costs and time commitment are investigated..
Reflection provides conclusions about the
achievability of each of three career options, in
relation to own preferences and the degree of
commitment one is prepared to make. e.g. I don't
think architecture is a good option for me as I don't
enjoy physics and don’t want to have to do extra
study to improve that knowledge.
Conclusions are stated for each of the three career options
identified in 12383 1.3 above, based on:
 the learner’s own preferences (pp10-12 My decision about
this option), and
 the commitment needed (p18 Me. My level of
commitment)
A plan for achieving future directions is produced
using identified information sources.
The plan contains:
 Specific & achievable goals e.g. Complete
NCEA Level 2 in 2011
 Milestones e.g. Gain at least 10 credits in each
subject by August.
 Completion date e.g. 2nd Dec, 2011
 Criteria for review e.g. meeting deadlines
 A time period realistic for identified goals
