Vantage Technology presents explosionproof connectors designed to UL Standard 1010 and the ATEX Directive. They
are intended for use in areas which are hazardous per the U.S. and Canadian electrical codes and Explosive
Atmospheres per 94/9/EC.
The Victory Series has a proven track record with over 40 years of safe and reliable service. Since its inception, the
Victory connector remains the only third party certified explosionproof connector with a rating over 100 amperes.
Vantage provides circuit-breaking make-and-break connections at up to 200 amperes in a small, environmentally sealed
package. GD, GB and BM connectors features include:
Third Party Certification ... Vantage connectors have been tested and listed for use in
hazardous areas by the following organizations:

Circuit-Breaking
UL, CSA and MSHA Listed to make/break at full
rated load, these connectors were required to
pass an overload test of 50 cycles at 150% of
their ampere rating in a chamber filled with a test
mixture of hazardous vapors.
Submersible
Victory and Millennium series connectors are
both explosionproof and submersible! When fully
mated, they will withstand 200 PSI of external as
well as 100 PSI of internal pressure.
400 Amp Connector
Vantage 400 amp XP connectors are electrically
interlocked. The receptacle, with UL / CSA
listed components,
is wired to a
breaker with shunt
trip for enhanced
safety.
Page 8
(See pages 26 and 27 for ATEX details.)
Insert Patterns
Grounding inserts with 3, 4, 5, and 6 contacts are described as 2
Pole 3 Wire, 3 Pole 4 Wire, 4 Pole 5 Wire, and 3 Pole 4 Wire plus
2 relay length contacts. The ground pin is longer and will make
first - break last, an important safety feature. See pages 29-32
for inserts.
Corrosion Resistance
Designed for corrosive environments, junction boxes are sand
cast, copper-free aluminum, protected by our VanGuard baked
polymer finish system. Plug and receptacle shells are machined
from 6061-T6 aluminum (0.15 to 0.40% copper by weight) and
finished by hard anodizing to exceed corrosion resistance
requirements per MIL-STD 202, Method 101, Condition D.
Reverse Service
GB / GD connectors are the first and only explosionproof
connectors to secure both UL and CSA listing with reverse
service inserts. Their ATEX listing also supports reverse service.
This feature provides electrical safety where lineside power is
carried from the plug to a receptacle.
200 Amp Connector
UL, CSA and MSHA listed in what is now recognized as a
landmark achievement by a connector manufacturer.
Factory Sealing
Junction box, NPT and panelmounted receptacles are pre-wired
and factory sealed. No external seals
are required.

Vantage explosionproof StarLine receptacles can be supplied with an Electrical Interlock Switch,
which is ideal for applications such as motor disconnect and remote signaling.
Wired to a contactor or circuitbreaker with shunt trip, this
variation insures the
connectors will make-break
under a no-load condition.
Engagement and separation
of pins and sockets is
controlled by the snap-action
mechanism incorporated in
Motor Minder XP connectors.
Example P/N: GD-B1720-40SL-AH-94
The 94 suffix calls for an interlocking
switch in a control circuit (24V – 600V) with a
PC, contactor or circuit breaker with a shunt trip
or undervoltage release.
The stainless steel pushbutton
assembly, preinstalled within
enclosure, is supplied with 8" pigtails
for simplified field termination.
Separation Unthreading the coupling
sleeve opens the
interlock switch by
releasing the springloaded actuator, before
pins are withdrawn from
the sockets. Further
rotation controls the
separation of pins from
sockets under a no-load
condition.
Engagement – The snap-action mechanism engages
pins into sockets. An additional 3-4 turns of the
couplings sleeve closes the interlock switch by
depressing the actuator, energizing a fully mated
connection that is sealed against the environment.

Circuit Breaking
AF StarLine CSA and MSHA listed connectors
are circuit breaking, designed and tested to
make/break at full rated load – an added safety
feature.
Corrosion Resistance
Designed for corrosive environments, junction boxes are sand
cast, copper-free aluminum, protected by our VanGuard baked
polymer finish system. Plug and receptacle shells are machined
from 6061T6 aluminum and finished by hard anodizing to exceed
corrosion resistance requirements per MIL-STD 202, Method
101, Condition D.
Submersible
AF
connectors
are
explosionproof
and
submersible! Fully mated, they will withstand 200
PSI external and 100 PSI internal pressure.
Reverse Service
Available with all Victory and Millennium series connectors,
reverse service provides electrical safety where lineside power is
carried from the plug to a receptacle.
Factory Sealing
Junction box, NPT and panel-mount receptacles
are pre-wired and factory sealed. No external
seals or fittings are required.
Voltage
AF Explosionproof StarLine has been tested for service through
250 VAC / 125 VDC circuit breaking; select inserts are rated
480 VAC non-circuit breaking. See pages 16-17 for options.
BM Control Connectors
Vantage offers MSHA certified XP connectors for instrumentation
and control, tested for use in coal dust and methane
atmospheres. Consult factory for options.

Ground Power Receptacles
Vantage ground power receptacles are designed to mount flush to the concrete floor of a
hangar deck. They are available with single or dual receptacles, as well as push button
switches and indicator lights for point-of-use control. Color coded covers, receptacle options,
and conduit entries are among the many variations available to the user.
Vantage Ground Power connectors meet the world’s most stringent certification requirements.
First tested and listed by Underwriters Laboratories, these ground power units are now also
approved and certified to Class I, Division 1, Groups C & D at 60/400 hertz by CSA International
- Canada and ATEX certified EEx d IIB + H2 T6 by KEMA - The Netherlands.
See page 25 for part numbers and pages 46 and 47 for code logic.
Single receptacle shown.
Available as duplex or with pilot
light and pushbutton station.
Aircraft Connectors – GDT Series
The GDT Series is the explosionproof companion of the MS25486 auxiliary power
connector, the 400 hertz aircraft power standard throughout the world. With GDT,
disconnects can be established in hazardous locations on hanger floors and walls.
GDT connectors were first incorporated into aircraft hangar facilities with the
introduction of large commercial / military aircraft in the late sixties. The U.S. Air
Force, after months of competition, selected the GD Series as the electrical
connector standard for all C5A hangar facilities throughout the world. The Boeing
Company followed selecting the GDU as part of their 747 assembly facility.
Ground Power Receptacles, shown above, are UL and CSA Listed in single and
duplex styles that mount flush into an aircraft hangar floor or apron.
Frequency In a landmark achievement these receptacles are Division 1 and Zone 1 certified at
50, 60 and 400 hertz.
Drainage A unique drainage feature has two large 2” threaded holes located at opposite sides of
the power box upper skirt. Use of these holes allows water that might pool on the receptacle to
flow through the drainage conduits.
Junction Box GDT-B1728-42SL-BL for Division 1 areas. Receptacles are pre-wired and factory
sealed, external seals are not required. Junction box has a 3" NPT conduit opening on the
bottom for bulkhead or service pit mounting.
Division 2 Panel Mount
Receptacle with enclosure
Interlocked Receptacle V-70017-XX-200A. 200 amp interlocked connector available with
contactor (RC) or circuit breaker (RB) with shunt trip. Designed to be mounted to a bulkhead /
wall, this enclosure is supplied complete and ready to install.
Panel Mount Receptacle GDT-B1728-42SL-L36. Pre-wired and factory sealed, these receptacles are designed for
NEMA style enclosures in Division 2 areas. Pigtails (L36) can be any length. Example: L36 calls for 3 foot (36") pigtails.
NPT Mount GDT-B1928-42SL-L48. Pre-wired and factory sealed, these receptacles thread into
an NPT conduit opening on an explosionproof junction box for use in Division 1 areas. Pigtails
(L48) can be any length. Example: L48 calls for 4 foot (48") pigtails.
Attachment Receptacle GDT-B1528-42SL-XX Receptacles, which can be mounted to flexible
cables, allow assemblies to be built in “extension cord” fashion for use in hazardous areas.
Delta Airlines at Hartsfield International Airport chose to use these attachment receptacles with
large power operated reels mounted in the hangar ceiling. Controlled by conveniently located
pushbutton stations, these receptacles can be lowered to the hangar floor thereby eliminating
excess cable in the workplace.

Vantage inserts come in power (30 thru 260 AMP) and control (10 thru 100 contacts) versions. Within these power and
control versions many options are available. Pages 29 thru 36 depict the inserts available with their electrical ratings,
certifications and available key positions. Inserts are designed for simplified field termination. Power inserts feature
captive contacts that utilize pressure termination. Control inserts utilize crimp contacts that are rear insertable, rear
removable. Consult factory for replacements.
Grounding
Power inserts feature ground contacts which provide shell
grounding, polarization, and make-first, break last function.
Many control inserts feature ground contacts which provide
shell grounding and make-first, break last function.
Relay Circuits
Some inserts are available with a pair of relay
contacts that are shorter than all other contacts to
provide a time delay during breaking and making.

Plating Options
Control contacts come standard with silver plating. Gold plating is available for
added corrosion resistance. The following plating options are available.
Ferrules
Ferrules are designed to serve as a
compression supporting member when an
undersized wire is crimp terminated into a
larger contact. Ferrules are gold plated.

Termination Information
All inserts are designed for simplified field termination. Control inserts require the use of Vantage crimp tools for safe
and reliable circuits. See page 38 for more information.
Page 28
The Vantage Inserts presented in this section illustrate the contact configurations available in the StarLine
series. Most inserts are available in alternate key positions to prevent the inter-mating of like configurations in your
system. Power inserts (GD/SD, GB/SB & BM) are designed with oversized contacts to maximize cooling. Wire size
indicates maximize wire gauge that can be terminated to contact.

EPD Plugs and ER Receptacles, in addition to their
regular function of making electrical connections to
portable equipment, are current-rupturing devices which
provide a safe and positive means for opening and
closing electrical circuits.
The contacts are confined within closed chambers to
snuff the arc and are detained a sufficient length of time
in their travel to permit cooling before exposure to the
atmosphere. This is accomplished by the delayed
action feature, which operates on the extremely simple
straight-line principle illustrated schematically below.
Contact units are factory-sealed in the receptacle
housing at the terminal end therefore seal fittings are
not required adjacent to the receptacle. Flexible lead
wires are provided for connection to the circuit wires.
Plugs and receptacles with a longer extra pole connect
directly to the shell, completing the grounding circuit
through the conduit system. The ground pole of the
plug has a solder-less lug for connecting the extra
conductor of the portable cord which is required by
Article 500 of the N.E.C. for grounding non-current
carrying metal parts of portable devices
Listed plugs fit only receptacles of the same rating.
