Insert the new electrode by following the above instruction in reverse. Model GI-98127 Pocket Pen The pH electrode can be easily removed with the tool provided. Insert the tool into the electrode cavity as shown below. Electrode Replacement Instruction and Operation Manual Genesis Instruments Introduction How to Operate General Description Familiarizing yourself with your new meter GI-98127 is a watertight pH and temperature tester. The housing has been designed to float. All pH readings are automatically temperature compensated (ATC), and temperature values can be displayed in °C or °F units. The meters can be calibrated at one or two points with auto-buffer recognition and against five memorized buffer values. Measurements are highly accurate with a unique stability indicator right on the LCD. A low battery symbol warms the user when the batteries are to be replaced. In addition, the Battery Error Prevention System (BEPS) avoids erroneous reading caused by low voltage level by turning the meter off. The pH electrode, supplied with the meters, is interchangeable and can be easily replaced by the user. The stainless steel encapsulated temperature sensor facilitates faster and more accurate temperature-measurement and compensation. A. Turning your meter “on” To turn on your meter, press and hold the O/MODE button for 2-3 seconds. Notice that every time you turn the pen on, it will flash all icons used on the LCD for a few seconds. This is immediately followed by the percentage of remaining battery life – example: % 95 BATT). After the battery life flashes, the pen will settle into “normal measurement mode”. B. To turn your meter “off” Make sure the pen is in normal measurement mode, then press and hold the O/MODE button. The LCD will read ‘OFF”. Immediately release the O/MODE button, your meter will now be off. C. Freezing the display Warranty Genesis Instruments are warranted for one (1) year against defects in workmanship and materials when used for their intended purpose and maintained according to instructions. The electrode is warranted for a period of six months. This warranty is limited to repair or replacement free of charge. Damages due to accident, misuse, tampering or lack of prescribed maintenance are not covered. If service is required, contact the dealer from whom you purchased the instrument. If under warranty, report the model number, date of purchase, serial number and the nature of the failure. If the repair is not covered by the warranty, you will be notified of the charges incurred. When shipping any instrument, make sure it is properly packaged for complete protection. Press the Set/Hold button for 2-3 seconds until the secondary display reads ‘HOLD”. Pressing either button will return you to normal measurement mode. NOTE: Before taking a measurement, follow the calibration instructions to ensure accurate readings. For accuracy it is recommended to carry out a two point calibration. For best results always use Genesis Instrument buffers and calibration solutions. If measurements are taken in different samples successively, rinse the electrode thoroughly to eliminate crosscontamination and after cleaning, rinse the electrode with some of the sample to be measured. When not in use, rinse the electrode with water and store in a few drops of storage solution. Do not use distilled water. If electrode dries out soak in storage solution for one hour. Clean monthly in cleaning solution. Calibrating pH A. Make sure that the meter is powered on. Now press and hold the O/Mode button until CAL appears on the secondary display. Immediately release the button when you see the “CAL” icon. The LCD will now read 7.01 in the primary display and USE in the secondary display. Notice the CAL icon will be flashing in the lower left corner of the LCD this indicates that your meter is currently calibrating. Fully submerge the electrode (located at the bottom of the pen) in Genesis pH 7.01 buffer solution. The meter will automatically recognize the buffer and calibrate to it. After recognition of the 7.01, the meter will prompt you to use 4.01. At this time you may opt out and use a single point calibration of 7.01 or continue to perform a two-point calibration. To opt out and use a single point calibration of 7.01, simply press the O/MODE button. B. To proceed with a two-point calibration Rinse the electrode with pure water to avoid crosscontamination. Ten submerge electrode into pH 4.01 buffer solution. After recognition of the 4.01, OK will flash for 1 second on the LCD, (watch the LCD closely or you may miss the OK), then the meter will return to normal measurement mode. At this time, you may notice that the CAL icon (bottom left of LCD) that was flashing before, now remains solid. This denotes that the calibration process has been completed. NOTE: For hydroponics and growing applications, we recommend pH 7.01. For people who have a need for NIST 6.86 buffer, follow instructions as follows: With meter on and in pH measurement option, press and hold the O/MODE button again to show current buffer set, which will be pH 7.01, to switch to pH 6.86 use the Set/Hold button to toggle between the two. Press the O/MODE button to return to normal measurement mode. For more information on this product and other Green Air Products equipment and controls, see our web site at www.greenair.com Taking Measurements & Changing Temperature Units Feature Descriptions A. To Take a Measurement 1. Indicates Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) 2. Stability Indicator (meter is calculating reading) 3. Percentage of battery life display icon 4. Calibration is complete icon (flashes during calibration) 5. Low Battery Indicator (shows replacement is necessary) 6. Measurement Mode Indicator 7. Primary Reading Display 8. Temperature Scale Icon 9. Secondary Display Submerge the electrode directly into the solution or sample to be tested while stirring gently. For sample testing use plastic, paper, or styrofoam to hold the solution to avoid electromagnetic interference. Measurement is complete when the stability indicator disappears. The measurements are automatically temperature compensated by ATC software within the meter. B. To Select °C or °F to Read Temperature With meter on and in any measurement option, press and hold O/Mode button until LCD reads TEMP then release the button. Now use the Set/hold button to toggle between °C and °F. To return to normal measurement mode, press the O/Mode button twice. Battery Replacement: The meter displays the remaining battery percentage every time it is switched on. When the battery level is below 5%, the battery symbol on the bottom left of the LCD lights up to indicate a low battery condition. The batteries must be immediately replaced. If however the battery level is so low as to cause erroneous reading, the Battery Error Prevention System (BEPS) will automatically turn the meter off. 6 To change the batteries, remove the 4 screws located on the top of the meter. Once the top has been removed, carefully replace the 4 batteries located in the compartment while paying attention to their polarity. Replace the top, making sure that the gasket is properly seated in place, and tighten the screws. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE BATTERY COVER!!! 1. Battery Compartment 2. LCD Display 3.
