Fact: No one ever joined NAMI that did not have a loved one that has a mental illness.
When you talk with a member that has been working with their love one’s case for awhile, you can see that they have acquired a wealth of information.
Information acquired by making mistakes and taking time.
The School of Hard Knocks has a very high tuition!

When an Incident
Occurs and 911 is called:
If the Incident involves
The breaking of a law,
The subject would be taken to the Martinez Detention
Facility (Jail)
If the Officer sees that the subject meets the LPS
Criteria: Danger to Self or
Others, the officer would call an ambulance and send the subject to the PES
The Police Officer
Has three choices
Crash Course
When the patient does not meet thecriteria
But has a substance use related issue, refer to AOD 1-800-846 1652
If the decision is neither of the above, the subject would be free to go. The
Family Case Manager would have a strategy for that.

Example:
Lithium can do damage to the kidneys.
So there should be a periodic blood draw to determine the level in the blood. Many doctors, for their own reasons don’t call for the blood draw. The Family Case Manager should insist.
The desired level is approximately .09
If it is as low as .03 or lower, it is not likely to a therapeutic dose. If it is over .10 and up, it could be doing damage to the kidneys.
