Norwich Free Academy engages over 2,300 students a breadth of academic, co-curricular, and social opportunities. Since
opening its doors in 1856, Norwich Free Academy, a privately endowed, independent high school, has served a vital public
purpose: to enrich, develop, refine, and prepare students to develop and reach their goals. NFA serves as a school of
choice for Norwich and partner communities (Brooklyn, Bozrah, Canterbury, Franklin, Lisbon, Preston, Sprague, Voluntown,
and Windham) and for private tuition students.

FINE ARTS AT NFA
Norwich Free Academy’s Fine Arts program is one of the oldest
high school art programs in the country. The Academy is one of
two high schools In the US with a full-time, professionally staffed
art museum on campus and open to the public. Nationally
recognized, the Fine Arts program is rigorous, preparing
students to continue their studies in competitive and prestigious
art colleges and universities. Both students and faculty have
been recognized for their achievements.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT
NFA offers Advanced Placement opportunities in Studio Art,
Biology, Calculus AB and BC, Chemistry, Chinese Language,
Computer Science, English Language, English Literature,
Environmental Science, European History, French Language,
Latin, Macro and Microeconomics, Music Theory, Physics,
Psychology, Spanish Language, Statistics, and U.S. History. 205
students took 319 exams with 63% earning a score of 3 or
higher.

COLLEGE PATHWAYS AT NFA
Students may earn college credits when taking courses at
Norwich Free Academy through the following programs:
University of Connecticut’s Early College Experience program,
Eastern Connecticut State University’s Dual Enrollment
program, and Three Rivers Community College’s Career
Pathways program. The number of students who participated
in these programs are as follows: UCONN: 224 students taking
555 classes for 1,682 credits, ECSU: 164 students taking 198
classes for 639 credits, and TRCC: 74 students participating in
one of five career pathway programs.
