University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory
of Music as its dean in 2011. After four years
in this position, I continue to be inspired
by the unparalleled work of our faculty and
students. The talent in these halls — coupled with the remarkable
achievements of our alumni —fuels the arts locally, nationally and
across the globe.
I am equally inspired by those of you who invest in this talent.

Earlier this year, I extended my commitment as Dean of CCM
through 2023. This was in large part due to the respect and

me. As an alumnus of the school,
I have been thrilled not only to
watch the growth of CCM over
the years, but to be an active
participant in its evolution at
many different levels. Getting
involved has opened new doors
and allowed me to give back to
the University and CCM in ways
that I could not have imagined as
a young student. I met my wife
at CCM, met my best friends
at CCM, and created a lifetime
of memories for which I will be

WILLIAM H. HARVEY
Bill Harvey is co-owner and Vice President of Buddy Roger’s Music,
a music retailer specializing in the school music business in the
Cincinnati region. In 2001, Bill was recognized by CCM for his active
involvement in the community and presented with the Distinguished
Service Award.
Bill founded the Cincinnati Brass Band in 1993. He established the
LINKS Program (Lonely Instruments for Needy Kids) in partnership with
the CCM Alumni Board in 1994. The New Horizon’s Band, a recreational
performance group for senior citizens, was kicked off in 1999 through
the efforts of Bill and the support of his company.
Bill served on the CCM Alumni Board for more than nine years and
currently serves on the boards of the Friends of CCM, the Music
Achievement Council and the Cincinnati Brass Band.

in my life. I feel fortunate to
have a professional career, to
perform and teach. I hope in
my own way I can share some
of my good fortune with CCM
students as they start their
professional lives.
LEE FISER
Lee Fiser, Professor of Cello and Chamber Music, has served on the
faculty of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music
since 1975. He is a former member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
Lee was the cellist for the famed LaSalle Quartet, CCM’s quartet-inresidence, from 1975 until the Quartet’s retirement in 1988, performing in
over 40 international concert tours.
Lee continues to actively teach and he enjoys attending the concerts
of the Ariel Quartet, CCM’s current resident ensemble. Professor Fiser
gives annually to the Friends of CCM because it provides scholarship
support to many deserving CCM undergraduate and graduate students.
Professor Fiser is an extremely dedicated teacher who truly
cares about his students. He is always open to giving additional
lessons and he believes in optimizing the efforts we put in to
playing our musical instruments. When I first studied with him,
Professor Fiser would give me advice and tips on playing. His
genuine concern for his students extends beyond their musical
development and academic growth to their everyday lives.

I wouldn’t be where I am
today had it not been for the
education I received at CCM.
The musical theatre program
was challenging and thrilling. It
was exactly what I needed to
transition into the real world of
performing. That experience
was also made easier by funding
I received from scholarships
both from my hometown high
school and CCM’s Jane M.
Battaglia Scholarship Fund.

the decision to go into any type
of artistic field takes a lot of

LISA HOWARD
An accomplished actress and singer, Lisa Howard is the recipient of the
CCM Musical Theatre Young Alumni Award for 2016. First presented
in 2006, the award is given to Musical Theatre graduates of the past
three decades. In 2015, Lisa received a nomination for the Drama Desk
Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for her role as Jenny in
It Shoulda Been You. Lisa was awarded the 2005 Drama Desk Award
for Best Ensemble Performance for her Broadway debut as Rona Lisa
Peretti in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Most recently,
Lisa received critical acclaim for her performance on the televised Tony
Awards. Lisa’s debut solo CD, Songs of Innocence and Experience: The
Music of William Finn was released in the Spring of 2011. Her television
and film credits include Ugly Betty and the Twilight Saga: Breaking
Dawn Part II.

Cincinnati, Ohio
If it hadn’t been for the
investment that others made
in our education, we wouldn’t
be pictured here. Now, it’s our
turn. We have been Friends of
CCM since we attended our
first performance. We plan to
continue our support for our
lifetimes. Then, our planned gift
will endow our current level of
Friends of CCM support for
future generations of talented
students. So much was done for
us. It’s the least we could, and
should, do for others.
MARY LU AND DICK AFT
Cincinnati became home to Dick and Mary Lu Aft in 1987 when Dick
began his 14-year presidency of the United Way of Greater Cincinnati.
That was also the year that Mary Lu began 28 years of Friends of the
Public Library leadership. As Dick continues to teach, consult and
write books about United Way history, Mary Lu still spends three days
each week volunteering as a Library Friend. She is also Vice Chair of
the Fifty Year Club alumni association of their shared alma mater, Knox
College. Dick serves as a member of the Friends of CCM Executive
Committee and Chair of the Community Advisory Board of UC’s
Hoxworth’s Blood Center.
Mary Lu and Dick consider CCM to be “their conservatory” and believe
that it is one of the best in the world. They should know, as they have
enjoyed performances all over the world while working as a volunteer
team committed to increasing non-profit services to people in need.
