Monday, 14th June 2010 Dear Parents/Carers, YEAR 12 PHYSICS SUMMER SCHOOL QUEEN MARY UNIVERSITY, LONDON MONDAY, 21ST JUNE – FRIDAY 25TH JUNE 2010 I would like to extend an invitation to your son/daughter to attend the Physics Summer School at Queen Mary University (QMU), London. This event consists of a week-long series of lectures, seminars and practical activities based at the Mile End campus of QMU. The aim of the event is to develop the students’ ability to solve problems both as an individual and as part of a team, and to demonstrate the types of study and activities carried out at a top level British University. Attendance is free, and will run from Monday, 21st June to Friday, 25th June. Your son/daughter will be expected to make their own way to and from the University each day. They will not be accompanied by a member of staff. There will be a registration at the University each day in the morning. The series of activities which are delivered is specifically aimed at developing in Physics and Mathematics, but the type of problems the students face and the level of tasks set will help to develop the type of problem-solving skills that are transferable to all of the subjects that your son/daughter is studying. There will be an expectation that your son/daughter will catch up with any work they have missed at school owing to this attendance at this course. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally if you have any further questions arising from this invitation. Yours sincerely, Mr J Fisher Head of Physics
