Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, captures the heart of the stern captain. They happily marry and upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that the Nazis have invaded Austria. The family escapes over the mountains on the eve of World War II. This production is sure to be a great success, with beautiful scenery designed by Carol Stavish, costumes by senior Theatre major Jessi Chavez, and lighting by Tamara Harris, senior Theatre major. Wells Fine Arts Center. A native of the Phillipines, Licad has performed with major orchestras worldwide, and this will be her second visit to north central Texas. She will also teach our piano students in a special master class Saturday, February 22. Cecile Licad’s program will include Woodland Sketches by Edward MacDowell, Sonata in C minor by Cécile Cecile Licad and Tarleton music major Jeremy Bowen in 2011 Chaminade, and piano selections by L. M. Gottschalk and American composers William Mason and Leo Ornstein. Called "a pianist's pianist" by The New Yorker, Cecile Licad's artistry is a blend of daring musical instinct and superb training. Her natural talent was honed at the Curtis Institute of Music by three of the greatest performer/pedagogues of our time: Rudolf Serkin, Seymour Lipkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski. Licad's large repertoire as an orchestral soloist spans the Classical works of Mozart and Beethoven, the Romantic literature of Brahms, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Rachmaninoff, and on to the 20th-century compositions of Debussy, Ravel, Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Bartok. It’s time to dust off your dancing shoes for the annual Valentine’s Day Ballroom Dance with the ULTRA Club Big Band. Once again, the ULTRA dance will feature tasty hors d’oeuvres, a photo booth, and lots of door prizes, but the theme this year is “famous couples in history.” You’re welcome (but not obliged, of course) to dress up as your famous couple. Is it Romeo and Juliet? Anthony and Cleopatra? Bonnie and Clyde? Brad and Angelina? Just surprise us! A prize will be awarded to the best dressed couple. This fun event is scheduled for Friday, February 7, when Greg Ball’s 20-piece big band brings back the golden age of swing music. The dance starts at 8:00 PM and takes place in the Ballrooms of the Thompson Student Center. All proceeds from this fundraiser go to scholarships for students in the Department of Fine Arts. The exhibition is an opportunity for students to see what Tarleton professors are up to when they aren’t teaching class, grading papers, and advising students, among other things. All Tarleton art faculty are Anticipation by Sharon Seelig working artists who exhibit creative work across the United States and internationally. Much of what students learn in studio art courses is directly inspired by the research and production achieved by the faculty. The exhibit is located at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Gallery, and is on display from January 14 to February 10. General admission tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. In the Gallery: Tarleton Art Faculty Exhibit The Department of Fine Arts at Tarleton State University is proud to announce the first art exhibit of the Spring 2014 semester with a month-long exhibit of work made by Tarleton’s faculty. All of the art faculty were invited to participate. This year’s exhibit features recent painting, photography, and video work by Linda Buter, Mark Davis, April Delaney Thompson, Tim Harding, Knut Hybinette, Chris Ireland, and Sharon Seelig. (continued on next page) The Sound of Music Theatre at Tarleton is proud to present the annual spring musical, The Sound of Music, on February 26 - March 1, 2014 at 7:30 PM each evening in the Auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center. The Sound of Music was the final collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The TSU production is a wonderful blend of students, faculty, staff, and Stephenville students. The director will be Prudence Jones; Musical/Vocal Director, Troy Robinson; and Band conductor, Greg Ball. Members of the Stephenville community performing in this production include Peyton Skinner (10) as the youngest child, Gretl, and Stephenville ISD 2nd grade teacher Jana Roan as Sister Berthe.
