The 10th Anniversary Tarleton Piano Festival
Tarleton is celebrating its 10th
anniversary Piano Festival this February
21-22, 2014 with the return of renowned
pianist Cecile Licad for a concert on
Friday, February 21 at 7:30 PM in the
Theater of the Clyde H. Wells Fine
Arts Center. A native of the Phillipines,
Licad has performed with major
orchestras worldwide, and this will be
her second visit to north central Texas.
She will also teach our piano students
in a special master class Saturday,
February 22. Cecile Licad’s program will
include Woodland Sketches by Edward
MacDowell, Sonata in C minor by Cécile
Cecile Licad and Tarleton music major Jeremy Bowen in 2011
Chaminade, and piano selections by L.
M. Gottschalk and American composers William Mason and Leo Ornstein.
Called "a pianist's pianist" by The New Yorker, Cecile Licad's artistry is a blend of daring
musical instinct and superb training. Her natural talent was honed at the Curtis Institute of
Music by three of the greatest performer/pedagogues of our time: Rudolf Serkin, Seymour
Lipkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski. Licad's large repertoire as an orchestral soloist spans
the Classical works of Mozart and
Beethoven, the Romantic literature
of Brahms, Chopin, Tchaikovsky,
Schumann and Rachmaninoff, and
on to the 20th-century compositions
of Debussy, Ravel, Shostakovich,
Prokofiev and Bartok.

ULTRA Club Scholarship Big Band Dance is Feb. 7
It’s that time, ULTRA Club members!
It’s time to dust off your dancing shoes for the annual

hors d’oeuvres, a photo booth, and lots of door prizes,
but the theme this year is “famous couples in history.”
You’re welcome (but not obliged, of course) to dress up
as your famous couple. Is it Romeo and Juliet? Anthony
and Cleopatra? Bonnie and Clyde? Brad and Angelina?
Just surprise us! A prize will be awarded to the best
dressed couple.
This fun event is scheduled for Friday, February 7, when
Greg Ball’s 20-piece big band brings back the golden age
of swing music. The dance starts at 8:00 PM and takes
place in the Ballrooms of the Thompson Student Center.
All proceeds from this fundraiser go to scholarships for
students in the Department of Fine Arts.
