Updates and news
MBE for Marcus
Congratulations go to community mental health practitioner Marcus Solanki who
is being awarded an MBE in recognition of his outstanding work in the voluntary
sector and more than 35 years’ NHS service. Marcus, who has worked as a
mental health professional for more than three decades, is a dedicated supporter
of a host of voluntary groups, including the Savera resource centre for mental
health which he has chaired for 13 years, the ADHAR project, the police advisory
group on racial issues in Leicester and the Leicester Council of Faith, where he
was, until recently, the assistant secretary. He’s believed to be the first Gujurati
Christian to be awarded the MBE.
His MBE will be the ultimate highlight of an award-filled career for Marcus, who’s already been
awarded the Leicester Citizen of the Month and Citizen of the Year and runner up awards, been
awarded a Fellowship from the Royal Society Arts and Commerce, and won major honours from his
home country of India. In 2002 he was presented with the prestigious Jewel of India “Hind Rattan
Award” which has been awarded to only 30 people internationally, and two years later he was given
Delhi’s Sword of Honour, the highest honour awarded by the Non Resident Indian’s Welfare Society of
India in recognition of their work in their area of expertise and their representation of India.
Marcus, who has worked at the The Towers Hospital site, the Brandon Unit, common mental health
services and as a primary care therapist in IAPT Open Mind service, comes from a family of dedicated
health professionals. He will travel to Buckingham Palace with his wife, Diana, brother Allan, son James
Jonathan and daughter Naomi Joy who will be celebrating her 18th birthday.
He said: “I was very surprised to get the letter from the Prime Minister’s Office saying I had been
nominated for the MBE and I’m deeply honoured I love the work that I do and I see this as a tribute to
my mother and late father.”

Adult mental health acute care pathway – response to your feedback
Our adult mental health division are developing a new acute care pathway and
discussing how they can make improvements to the way their crisis resolution and
home treatment team, community mental health teams and outpatient services
operate. In December 2011 they published a discussion document, which
contained a proposed acute care pathway and a series of suggested questions
about how they could improve services overall. A variety of staff, service users
and representatives from various organisations submitted responses or attended a
briefing session.
The division have carefully analysed and reflected on what people have said to them. Their response
to this feedback and the next steps are summarised in this feedback document. If you would like a
printed copy of the document please contact communications manager
nicky.mawer@leicspart.nhs.uk. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the discussions.
