MONORAIL KITS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS PENDANTS JESCO Lighting Group is a UL and ETL listed company Copyright © 2011 JESCO Lighting Group. All rights reserved. IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Be sure to read and unsderstand the following instructions completely before installation. 1. All electrical power must be turned off before installation or modification of an exixting system 2. The Monorail system cannot be installed in a damp or wet location 3. Monorail fixtures cannot be installed within 6” of combustible materials 4. Monorail cannot be concealed or extended through a building wall We recommend that the Monorail System be installed by qualified, licensed electrician INSTALLING MONORAIL 1. Start by placing the system on the floor, to roughly indicate the positions of the transformer, connectors, and standoffs. 2. Install Supplied Surface Mounted Transformer: If Surface Mounted Transformer is installed • The standard Surface Mounted Transformer is compatible with 3” standoffs. • For longer drops, install the POWER FEED CABLE EXTENDER now. • Mount transformer to the junction box. If optional Remote Transformer is installed • Determine location of transformer, J-box and canopy. • Pull the appropriate THHN wire from the transformer to the canopy – refer to the Voltage Drop Chart below. If using a SINGLE POWER FEED CANOPY, you will require two leads; if using a DUAL POWER FEED CANOPY, four leads are required. • If using a POWER FEED EXTENSION, install it now. You will need one POWER FEED EXTENSION for a SINGLE POWER FEED CANOPY, or two POWER FEED EXTENSIONS for a DUAL POWER FEED CANOPY. • Install canopy at the junction box. 3. Design bends and assemble rail on the floor. • Bend Rail to desired shape. A BENDING TOOL may be used for more precise bends. • Connect sections of Rail with connectors, ensuring tight connections. • Where power is to be isolated, use non-conductive connectors. • For a finished look, insert end caps over the ends of the Rail. 4. Install Standoff Supports • Mark the ceiling locations where the standoff supports are to be installed. • Standoffs should be placed about three feet apart, with more frequent suspensions on tight curves. The Surface Mounted Transformer itself is a standoff. • Install Standoff supports. 5. Install Rail • Install Rail to the Standoffs and Surface Mounted Transformers. • Ensure that all power connections are tight and secure. • Turn the power on. Using a Voltmeter, be sure that the Rail is supplying the proper voltage. • Turn the power off. 6. Install Quick Adapt Pendants or Quick Adapt Spots • Install the MA-FA (FIXTURE ADAPTER) on to the Rail where the Pendants or Spots are to be positioned. You will need one per Pendant or Spot. • Install Pendants or Spots onto the MA-FA (FIXTURE ADAPTER). • Be sure that the power connections are tight and secure. • Note: When using a 24V transformer, 24V lamps are required. 7. Test the Monorail System • Turn the power on for 20 minutes. • Check for any connections that are hot to the touch. (Warm to the touch is not a problem). If any part of the system is hot, the connections must be re-tightened. Note: All halogens lamps generate heat. Do not touch lamps with bare hands. 4. Install Standoff Support 2b. Install Optional Remote Transformer 3. Design Bend & Assemble Rail on the Floor 2a. Install Surface Mounted Transformer 1. Lay system out on floor 5. Install Rail to Power Feed & Standoffs 6. Install Quick Adapt Pendants 7. Test Monorail System For 20 Minutes INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS LOW VOLTAGE MONORAIL BASIC COMPONENTS CAUTION Read all instructions before attempting to install this product. Ensure main power is off before attempting to install, modify, or wire this product. Do not install in a wet or damp location. All electrical equipment should be installed by a qualified electrician or technician in accordance with local electrical codes and National Electrical Code. NOTE: Configure design and layout of system on floor before attempting to install any of the following products. MA–FA • Fixture Adapter 1. Unscrew cap from Fixture Adapter. 2. Insert Fixture Adapter onto installed Monorail system. 3. Replace cap onto Fixture Adapter and tighten. MA–I • Conductive Connector & MA-I-NC • Non-Conductive Connector 1. Insert rail into open connector end. 2. Ensure the rail is set completely within the connector. 3. Tighten setscrew with Allen wrench. Locate the Quick Adapt connector at the top of the coaxial cord. Completely remove screws A and B with the provided Allen key. 2. While holding the tip of the Quick Adapt connector, remove the base by turning it away from you. 3. You can now identify the three components that make up the Quick Adapt connector. 4. Disassemble the Quick Adapt connector by pulling the coaxial cord out of and away from all three components. 5. Measure the desired length and cut the cord. (Note: Approx. 1 inch of the cord will be inserted into the Quick Adapt connector). 6. Once you’ve cut the cord to it’s desired length, I will look like picture A shown to the left. Peel back the braided jacket approx.. ¾” from the tip of the insulated center wire (Picture B). 7. Cut off the excess braided jacket so that ¾” of the insulated center wire is exposed. Strip no more than 1/8” off of the insulated center wire. 8. Twist the remaning braided jacket snugly around the center wire to ensure a clean insertion around the center wire to ensure a clean insertion into the Quick Adapt connector. 9. Reassemble the Quick Adapt connector by passing the cord throught the retainer and sleeve first. Then insert the cord into the turn plug making sure that the foot of the plug covers the braided jacket. Turn the plug while inserting the cord for an easier insertion. Make certain you can see the center wire at the top opening A of the plug to ensure a good connection. 10. Again using the provided Allen key, tighten screw A at the tip of the plug. Reattach the sleeve and retainer to the plug. Tighten screw B on at the retainer. Your Quick Adapt Pendant is now ready to one of many mounting options in out Quick Adapt System. When using an optional remote low functioning properly? voltage magnetic transformer, a low voltage • Make sure the lamp is installed properly. magnetic dimmer is required. • Make sure the lamp is not burned out. • Make sure that dimmer’s rated capacity is not • Make sure the MA-FA (Fixture Adapter) is tightly connected. exceeded. • The dimmer is installed to the 120V side, before the transformer. Did the breaker on the main panel trip? • Using an incorrect dimmer will significantly • Verify that the circuit is not overloaded. reduce the life of the transformer. Is the system still not working? Noise Reduction • Make sure the light switch is turned on. Dimming a transformer can sometimes cause • Make sure the transformer has a secure a slight buzzing noise. In some applications, this connection to the power feed and is properly may not be an issue. Following are some and securely connected. recommendations to reduce the buzzing noise: • Make sure all connections do not have any loose wire nuts. • Make sure a compatible dimmer is being used. • Make sure the input wire in the transformer is connected to the 120V. • Install a debuzzing coil. • Power the system up to 80% of capacity, for example, for a 300 watt transformer, do not load Dimming more than 240 watts. • All JESCO Lighting electronic transformers may be dimmed with the appropriate dimmer. • When using a low voltage electronic transformer, a low voltage electronic dimmer is VOLTAGE DROP CHART Using this chart to determine the correct THHN size for an acceptable 3 percent drop in voltage at the specified wattage.
