Description
Overview
PI–Connect SIMATIC Batch is designed as a
interface to read batch data from SIMATIC Batch,
to provide the data for the OSIsoft PI Batch
Interface.This interface reads the batch data and
archives them into the PI archive.

Functionality
The PI–Connect SIMATIC Batch Interface
connects the Simatic Batch server by using the
Simatic Batch API. The API hides also the
redundancy of the Simatic Batch servers.

Data read from the intzerface are buffered on the
interface machine to be forwarded by the OSIsoft
PI Batch interface.
The Simatic Batch Interface is able to handle
hierarchical (batch, unit, operation and phase
levels) or flat structures with batch and phase
level. In the second case pseudo units and
operations are created.
The Interface provides 4 different event types:
• Procedure start and end
• Recipe header
• State change
• Process parameter value notification
The Simatic Batch interface is able to connect to a
single Simatic Batch server or to a redundant
Simatic Batch server pair.

Buffering
Events
The PI–Connect SIMATIC Batch Interface can process “Parameter Events” at all batch levels. Depending
on the Simatic Batch configuration such events may appear on all levels.
Simatic Batch knows 3 types of parameters:
• Process Input (PI)
• Process Output (PO)
• Process Parameter (PP)
PI and PO parameters are normally the quantity of materials. All materials are listed in Simatic Batch with
material name and code. The PP parameters represent a process value like a temperature or a pressure.
All parameters have a parameter name and an actual value. Engineering units and set point value are
optional.
The use of the PI–Connect SIMATIC Batch Interface together with Simatic AS Base is planned.
Scope of delivery
The shipment contains the software licenses and documentation.

The following software must be installed and licensed on each Interface PC:
• PI System Develop Kit (SDK)
• OSIsoft Interface “Simatic Batch Interface to PI System”
• Simatic Batch API
• Simatic Batch Base (only to be installed)
• Siemens Interface “PI-CONNECT Simatic Batch”
