siemens.com/sinumerik Safe operation: SINUMERIK Collision Avoidance Reliable protection against collisions Based on Collision Avoidance, SINUMERIK provides optimum protection against undesirable collisions between moving and non-moving machine components in the working area of machine tools – and in all operating situations. Collision Avoidance in SINUMERIK focuses on the most critical situations that occur in practice, for example setting up the machine or machining interruptions – in other words when the operator intervenes in the process. Safe operation and setting up thanks to real-time monitoring As a result of a powerful and intelligent system architecture, the 3D real-time collision monitoring is even effective for complex machining operations – such as 5-axis simultaneous milling or turning with the B axis. In so doing, stationary and moving machine components as well as tool cutting edges are effectively monitored for collision. Based on a fully-fledged 3D visualization, the complete machine process, including the machining area, is displayed on the CNC screen in SINUMERIK Operate. This means that areas where a risk of collision exists can be quickly and effectively identified. Answers for industry. Simple modeling in SINUMERIK Operate By defining cubes, spheres, cylinders or STL files, machine OEMs can simply model the machine assemblies that are relevant for collision monitoring directly at the CNC user interface. Collision protection is available in all operating modes (JOG/MDI and AUTO) and can be separately selected and deselected. Efficiently modeling collision bodies at the PC Siemens offers collision monitoring at the PC based on its well-proven NX CAM offline machine simulation. This means that collisions can already be effectively avoided when defining the process. With NX SINUMERIK Collision Avoidance, machine OEMs can create the machine model of the collision monitoring quickly and conveniently at the PC from existing design data of the machine. In SINUMERIK, Collision Avoidance automatically generates the data for the collision analysis of the tool cutting edges from the tool usage data for machining. This offers automatic collision monitoring involving moving and fixed machine components without the user having to input any additional data. Further, simple machining area limits can be defined by modeling the protective areas. As a consequence, it is not necessary to additionally configure software limit switches. Thanks to the reliable real-time monitoring, Collision Avoidance in SINUMERIK allows the machine availability and productivity to be significantly boosted.
