MULTIPLE FACULTY POSITIONS Department of Mechanical Engineering The University of Texas at Austin The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications from outstanding applicants in the following four areas of interest: Materials Science and Engineering: Applicants are sought at the Full Professor rank for two positions in the area of Materials Science and Engineering. Specific research areas of interest include energy materials, electronic materials, biomaterials, advanced materials characterization (in situ and ex situ), theory, and modeling. The successful candidates will work closely with the Texas Materials Institute and the Materials Science and Engineering graduate program. Operations Research and Industrial Engineering: Applicants at all professor ranks are sought in the broad areas of integration of data and decision making. Specific methodological areas of interest include: analytics, decision analysis, optimization, simulation, and stochastic systems. Candidates with demonstrated interest in application areas such as sustainability and energy systems, healthcare optimization, national security, design of supply chains and manufacturing systems, and the analysis and formulation of public policy are especially encouraged to apply. Nuclear and Radiation Engineering: The Department is seeking an outstanding candidate at the Assistant Professor rank whose areas of research make use of nuclear analytical methods. Research topics of interest include nuclear security, safeguards and forensics, advanced detector development, radiation-hard electronics and materials development and characterization, imaging and radiography, and other emerging areas. The successful applicant is expected to develop a vigorous, well-funded research program that incorporates the world-class facilities located at UT-Austin’s Nuclear Engineering Teaching Laboratory (NETL). We offer a strong and growing distance learning program, so it is especially important that the applicant demonstrate a willingness to make innovative use of technology in the classroom. Emerging areas: This is an open search for candidates at the Assistant Professor rank with demonstrated research excellence in any emerging area in Mechanical Engineering. Areas of particular interest include: (i) cyberphysical systems, with a focus on the development of smart mechanical systems and processes with connections to “big data,” (ii) medical acoustics with an interest in diagnostic and therapeutic applications, and (iii) theoretical and computational materials, devices and systems by design for enabling novel devices and systems. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Engineering or Natural Sciences related to the area and a record of high accomplishment with a clearly upward-pointing career trajectory. For senior hires, evidence of leadership in directing multiinvestigator research programs is essential. The successful candidates will also be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop a strong sponsored research program, supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and be involved in service to the university and the profession. Interested applicants should submit the following via https://recruiting.me.utexas.edu: (1) a cover letter, (2) current vitae, (3) a statement of research and teaching interests, and (4) a list of at least five references. For those applying at the Assistant Professor level, please also provide a copy of your graduate academic transcript. Candidates should address their submission to Faculty Search Committee – Area of Interest. Evaluation of applications will begin November 15, 2014, and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Further information about the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UT Austin may be found at http://www.me.utexas.edu. The successful candidate will be required to complete an Employment Eligibility Verification form and provide documents to verify identity and eligibility to work in the U.S. A security sensitive background check will be conducted on the applicant selected.
