Weatherford Electric Motors ® Proven motors for multiple applications. Performance. Durability. Safety. Weatherford® Electric Motors Weatherford’s high-performance pumping unit motors are designed to withstand extreme conditions. We have units operating in the searing desert heat of the Middle East, where temperatures can reach 140°F (60°C), in the rainforests of Indonesia and South America, and in the colder climates of the Rocky Mountains in the United States. Several features contribute to the durability of our systems in extreme conditions, including fan-cooled (TEFC) frames, optional Class H insulation, premium-quality components, and vacuum-pressure impregnation. More than 1,000 of our electric motors are operating in the desert conditions of the Middle East. We have yet to receive any reports of winding or rotor failures on systems that have their inherent protection connected. Our experienced technical specialists can help you select the design best suited to your needs. With a wide selection of rugged, dependable motors, Weatherford can meet your oilfield applications for • • • • NEMA D motors for dynamic loads; NEMA B high-efficiency motors for steady-state loads, such as pumps; inverter-rated motors for use with variable-frequency drives; special-frame-construction motors for hazardous, explosion-proof and Class I Div. II environments. Frame design for dependable performance. Weatherford motor frames meet NEMA standards in totally enclosed, TEFC and explosion-proof designs. European IEC-standard frames are also available. Constructed of rugged cast iron, our oilfield-proven motors are designed for dependable operation. Cooling fins, which are cast into the frame, enhance motor performance and durability by substantially increasing the surface area for heat dissipation. Torque and slip designs to meet system demands. We offer NEMA D and NEMA B designs that produce the torque and slip characteristics to match system demands. Pumping units benefit from the high-starting torque and greater slip provided by our NEMA D (high-slip) motors. The ability of these motors to change speed under varying torque requirements reduces torsional loads on the gearbox and provides starting characteristics superior to those of the NEMA C and B designs. Ultra-high slip motors are available in Weatherford’s Econo-Pac™ III line. 2 © 2008–2010 Weatherford. All rights reserved. Weatherford® Electric Motors Our NEMA B motors offer higher efficiency in steady-state load applications that require less starting torque, such as multiplex and progressing cavity pumps. We also offer inverter-duty motors, designed with variable-frequency drives to withstand rigorous conditions. These drives vary the frequency to control speed and torque output, allowing you to program the control for peak performance. Advanced winding technology: the key to durability. A critical factor in motor life is the method used to apply winding insulation, which provides mechanical strength, electrical-insulation heat dissipation and protection from contaminants and moisture. Weatherford’s electric motors use vacuum-pressure impregnation (VPI) to ensure the best insulation coverage and penetration, optimizing insulation performance and durability. The VPI method uses specially designed vacuum/pressure vessels to force the insulation deep into the motor windings while eliminating the air bubbles associated with the dip-and-bake method. Air bubbles create hotspots in the winding and eliminating these bubbles enhances winding life. Our TEFC, or explosion-proof motor frame, further protects the winding insulation from moisture. Special designs to suit your application. We offer a wide range of horsepower and voltages, including 2, 4, 6 and 8 pole, 60/50 HZ. Frame dimensions meet NEMA standards for the United States or IEC standards for Europe. Specialty designs can be configured to fit your specific needs. Top certifications and standards for quality assurance. Weatherford’s commitment to quality is reflected in the following standards and certifications: • ISO 9001 • ISO 10012 • Six Sigma • Conformite Eurpoéene (C-E) • Canadian Standards Association (CSA) • National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) • International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) © 2008–2010 Weatherford.
