Wall of Honor
The Brownstown Township Wall of Honor, dedicated
in a celebration on June 19, 2014, serves as a
tribute to the retirees of the Brownstown Police
and Fire departments. Members of the volunteer
Honor Guard were on hand during the ceremony
to officially raise the flag and dedicate the Wall of
Honor.
The Downtown Development Authority and the
Recreation Commission worked together to bring this
project to the Brownstown community for feedback.
The community wholeheartedly approved and the
DDA brought the project to David Zanley, Sidock
Architects’ Chief Designer.
In keeping with the Township’s wish to have a
landmark for the community, Dave’s design brings to
mind the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It features an arch
and wall in a courtyard setting that is ringed by a row
of flags and beds of flowers.
The arch sits prominently in front of the recently
completed Event Barn, part of the Recreation
Campus just west of the Police Department on King
Road.
Sidock Architects provided design, construction
documents, and construction administration services
for all buildings and structures within the 13-acre
Recreation Campus. Throughout the campus
structures act as cohesive elements, linking the
campus together.
The structures include the Wall of Honor, the
Multi-Purpose Event Barn, Picnic Shelters, Signage
Structures, the Clock Tower, the Splash Park Changing
Rooms and Pump House. Future structures include
Concession and Restroom Buildings and additional
shelters.
Brownstown Township
Splash Park
The Brownstown Township Splash Park opened to
guests on Memorial Day, and the official ribbon
cutting ceremony was held the evening of Monday,
June 2. Dave Zanley and Caitlin White of Sidock
Architects attended the event on behalf of the
design team.
The 6,000 square foot splash pad and park has
several different water attractions that are designed
for kids of all ages who enjoy a good soaking.
The project was undertaken by the Downtown
Development Authority, joining the other amenities at
the Brownstown Township Recreation Campus at King
and Telegraph Roads.
The Splash Park joins a long list of projects in Sidock’s
portfolio for Brownstown Township, including:

of the Police Department on King Road. The Event
Center & Wall of Honor Project has been selected by

Wayne Westland Fire Station
The June 4th Ceremony kicked off construction on the
new 12,000 SF residential-style fire station in Westland,
Michigan. Watch for construction reports in upcoming
issues of Great Lakes Design Update.
Brownstown Township Splash Park
The June 2nd Ceremony was a wet one, and not just
from the new splash park! The ceremony was held on
Monday evening, and although it was raining, it didn’t
dampen the spirits of those in attendance. The park
had been opened to the public since Memorial Day
and has seen steady use throughout the summer. See
our Client Spotlight for pictures of the park and the
ceremony.
Gaylord EFree Church

From Our Clients
US Steel Update
Following a crane accident in April which claimed
the life of one of our client’s contract workers, Sidock
was part of the team of professionals tasked with
returning the facility to production. Our people
provided emergency engineering services in a
challenging situation, and we are pleased to have
had the opportunity to help our client return the plant
to production.
“...the response of your team was immediate, and
you [were] involved in the process every day 24 hrs/
day, providing the engineering support required
to complete the work. The personal dedication
displayed by all shows me that this was more than just
a job, but a matter of pride for all involved.”

Staff News
Congratulations! to Colin Hepker and Greg Esper for
passing their Professional Engineers exam. Both Colin
and Greg work out of our Novi Office, which is our
company headquarters. Great job guys!
June 10, 2014 - Don Spezia, a Senior Project Architect
from our Muskegon Office, was a juror for the
Capstone Project and Portfolio Presentation for Baker
College of Muskegon’s Architectural Associates
Degree. Presentations were done by 6 students,
with 4 professionals invited to listen and critique the
projects. The presentations were very good, and the
designs were thoughtful and addressed the program.
The use of Revit and 3D renderings to convey the
design was very good. Don commented that “it was
fun being on this side of the evaluation process.”
