Where are we located?
The Speech Pathology Department is located at:
8 Grey Street, Ringwood East
(opposite Maroondah Hospital).
There is limited parking on site. Please allow
additional time for parking.

Maroondah Community Health Speech Pathology – What to Expect
What can you expect?






A comprehensive initial assessment of your
child’s communication and/or feeding skills
Feedback regarding the results of assessments
and a written report
To be involved in planning therapy goals
To acquire skills and knowledge to work with
your child at home
For your personal information to be respected
and kept confidential at all times
For your Speech Pathologist to liaise with other
health care professionals/teachers where
necessary and as agreed
Parents/Caregivers are expected
to:







Attend all appointments or to advise us as early
as possible if you are not able to attend your
scheduled appointment (prior to 9am on the
same day)
To arrive on time for your appointment,
allowing ample time for parking your car
To be actively involved in sessions and in the
planning of therapy goals
To complete regular homework tasks set by
your Speech Pathologist
To advise the clinic of any changes in contact
details (e.g. phone number & address)
To manage and be responsible for your child’s
behaviour and safety when attending the clinic
When possible, to arrange childcare for siblings.
This will enable you and your child to focus on
the session.
Term-On, Term-Off Policy


As we are a Community Health service and
have a large waiting list and client caseload, we
have adopted the Term On, Term Off Policy
which is common in many other Community
Health Centers.
This means that your child will be able to access
in-clinic services for 2 terms in a school year.
Your child will be given home practice activities
designed by your Speech Pathologist, taking
into consideration the existing goals for your
child. Your child may also attend a review
appointment during this time.
For example:
Cancellation Procedure
We understand that situations can sometimes arise in
which you are unable to attend your individual or groupbased therapy appointment.
Please inform us of your inability to attend as soon as
possible and prior to 9:00am on the day of your
appointment.
You may leave a message with our reception staff or on
the answering machine. Please clearly state: your child's
name, your Speech Pathologist’s name, the time of your
appointment and the group that you were attending
(where appropriate).
Note: For the consideration of other adults and children,
please call us to cancel if you or your child is sick.

Did Not Attend Procedure
Term 3: Group/Individual sessions
Term 4: Home Practice/Review
Due to the large number of children waiting for speech
pathology services, Maroondah Community Health
Speech Pathology has a strict Did Not Attend policy:


If you do not attend your appointment without
notifying us (as per the cancellation procedure),
you will be notified by letter.
If you do not attend any 3 sessions without
notification over the course of your child’s
therapy program, your child will be
automatically discharged from the service
