CMA Series actuators provide
reliable high precision motion in a
lightweight and compact package.
The CMA incorporates a space saving design allowing it to be used
with a wide variety of translation
stages, mirror mounts, and OEM
applications. The CMA is designed
to fit your existing manual stages
and other opto-mechanical components as a direct replacement
for a manual micrometer.
To provide the best fit for your
application’s requirements, the
CMA Series actuators are available
in stepper, open loop DC, and
closed loop DC servo motor versions in 12.5 or 25 mm travel. CMA
provides sub-micron minimum
incremental motion to match your
positioning needs, and can be
used for loads up to 9 kg at
200 µm/sec.

Our actuators needed to evolve in
order to meet your increasing performance requirements. The CMA
Series provides a cost effective
solution for higher duty industrial
and OEM environments. CMA
actuators have been qualified to
2,000 hours mean-time between
failure (MTBF).
• 12.5 and 25 mm travels
To protect your investment, the
CMA Series actuators include fixed
integrated limit switches. Fail-safe
limits cut motor power, preventing
accidental over travel on DC open
loop versions (CC), while limitsensing switches provide feedback
to your controller indicating that a
limit switch has been reached, on
stepper motor (PP) and DC Servo
motor (CCCL) versions.

For optimal positioning performance and seamless compatibility,
we recommend our ESP and
MotionMaster families of motion
controllers. When you order actuators and controllers together, each
system is factory tested and tuned
ensuring out-of-the-box performance every time. Each stepper
(PP) and closed-loop DC servo
(CCCL) motor driven CMA actuator
includes an integral 4.6m cable
with standard input 25 pin sub D
connector. Each of these two versions (PP and CCCL) contain ESP
smart technology, which provides
“plug and play” compatibility with
the Newport ESP Series motion
controller. Each open-loop DC (CC)
motor driven CMA actuator
includes an integral 3 m cable with
“phone jack” connector.

➀ Maximum speed for CMA-CC when
used with the 861 controller is less
then 400 µm/sec and is dependent on
the strength of the battery supplying
power.
➁ Assumes controller backlash compensation.
➂ Fail safe limit switches cut power to
the motor when limit switch is activated. To move actuator, power must
be reversed. Limit sensing switches
send a signal to the controller when

the limit switch is activated. The controller should then cut power to the
motor. Not using feedback from the
limited sensing switch will result in
damage to the CMA Actuator (PP
and CCCL versions).
➃ The recommended minimum cable
bend radius is 15mm for a static
bend and 40mm for bending in
cycling mode. Exceeding this minimum cable bend radius may result in
damage to the actuator.
