Project Developer; Ausbao is a subsidiary of Beijing Capital
Development Holdings and purchased the site in 2009. Ausbao
selected Parkview to construct the Quay in 2012.
Project Description
Located 1km west of Sydney’s central business district, the
site is the former home of the poultry section of Paddy’s
Market from 1912 till the 1950s then later a retail warehouse.
The development saw the construction of 286 apartments
within 2 residential towers (16 and 17 storeys tall) including
the restoration of the heritage façade, plus basement carpark,
multi-retail podium and commercial area over 6000sqm,
with landscaped areas, gymnasium and integrated public
improvements. It is well situated with excellent access to public
transport, community facilities.
Project Highlights
WMK Architecture describes the Quay as an ‘’urban resort’’ with
a communal north-facing terrace garden connecting the two
towers, and a large indoor-outdoor gymnasium.
The design of floor to ceiling glass allows abundant natural
light to flow freely into open-design living spaces, with louvres
allowing each resident to fill the room with light, air and
views. The project has been designed to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions and potable water demand via the inclusion of
numerous best practice sustainability initiatives.
The Public Domain upgrade provides better amenities to
China Town. The City of Sydney Council gave an extra 10%
of floor space to the project in recognition of the architects’
environmental initiatives, design excellence and considered
response to reactivating the surrounding public spaces.
