St. Louis is situated at the geographic hub of the
United States. A network of interstate highways
runs through the city. From the east, I-70 (from
Indianapolis), I-64 (from Louisville), and I-55
(from Chicago) merge together and cross the
Poplar Street Bridge over the Mississippi River
into downtown St. Louis. I-70 turns north,
passes the airport, and continues west to
Kansas City. I-55 turns south past the AnheuserBusch brewery and continues south to
Memphis and New Orleans. I-64, which the
locals call Highway 40, continues west through
St. Louis, past Forest Park, and across the
Missouri River, eventually ending by merging
with I-70. I-44 begins in St. Louis and runs
southwest along the former path of Route 66 to
Oklahoma City.

Weather
and hospitality throughout the downtown area.
Their job is to answer questions, give directions,
and assist in making your visit more enjoyable.
Driving
Downtown St. Louis is a square grid pattern, with
north/south streets generally numbered from the
river westward. (Exceptions are Broadway, which
is the 5th street, and Tucker, which is the 12th
street.) Most streets are one way and alternate
directions every other street. Right turns on red
are allowed unless posted. Rush hour is 7-9 a.m.
and 4-6 p.m. East-west street addresses
correspond to north-south cross-streets (e.g.,
600 Olive is at 6th and Olive).
Walking
Most of the Conference hotels are within
two blocks of the convention center. Many
downtown attractions, such as the Gateway
Arch, Union Station, and the Old Courthouse,
are also within eight to 10 blocks. As you
explore, you may notice the downtown “CID
Guides.” These distinctively-uniformed (gold
and black) sidewalk greeters and guides travel
on foot and bicycles to provide information
